American Hypocricy

On add-on pricing and events: We live in a capitalist society. Get over it, folks. I'll gladly pay for exclusivity. Sorry you can't afford it. You can always wait in line for 3 hours.

On free dining and other Disney promotions: This is ridiculous. This is crazy. Agents are waiting on hold for 8 hours. Only a few lucky ones are getting the discount. This is borderline false advertisement.

It's interesting how some cherry pick both sides of the same fundamental issue depending on their personal interests. Let's be honest: In all cases, Disney does whatever it damn well pleases because, well, it can. A half-*** promotion is just another capitalist ploy to get your money - no different than any of the made-for-the-wealthy events.

This is a fascinating reminder that, in the end, it's self-interest that drives emotion. You'll see capitalism cheered one week and demonized the next.

I don't think the team necessarily cheers or demonizes capitalism. They do cheer and demonize the guest experience. Pete is always very clear that Disney is a business and they're going to do whatever they feel earns them the most money. What happened in the conversation this week is Pete and others addressed the fact that some of Disney's recent business decisions may be backfiring on them. Disney may have gone too far with some of their changes. Capitalism is all well and good but that doesn't mean you can raise prices and cut service indefinitely without ever having any consequences to those actions. The team was pointing out some of those consequences on this week's show.

You're deliberately misinterpreting their viewpoints.

Disney can sell add-on events because people buy them. It's a good purchase, and both sides are happy.

Advertising Free Dining and then making it a nightmare to book with long wait times and incredibly limited availability does not make both sides happy.

This is a nice little example to use to explain capitalism. Sometimes capitalism makes the buyer and seller happy (the late night events) and should be celebrated. Sometimes capitalism only makes the seller happy (Free Dining debacle) and should be criticized. This is exactly what Pete does. I applaud him for it.
