America's got Talent

Yes, Grace did. They added an extra show for a total of 3. The winner doesn't get a standing gig, it's just two nights (or in the case of last year, three).

Oops. My bad. I didn't realize they didn't get a standing gig. 3 shows is nothing. A kid can handle that.

I never knew that either! I thought it was a standing gig. Thanks for the inside scoop!

Yes, and the way it is worded, the winner gets to "headline" a show in Las Vegas. Which means they are not the only performer in the show, just the one that gets top billing. Last year, The Clairvoyants and Tape Face appeared with Grace.

I think many viewers misunderstand because of the way they promote it. The million dollar prize is also misleading. The million dollars is paid out as $25,000 a year over 40 years! If they opt to take a one-time lump sum, it's only around $200,000 after taxes. Still a lot of money, but it gets hyped so much as $1M, and then you read the fine print at the end of the credits.

That's really no different than lottery winnings.

I wish I was talented. :rotfl2:

I was very excited to see that an act from last season--the Clairvoyants--are performing at one of the casinos on the MS coast. They are an act I will be much more willing to pay to see than either that season's winner or this one.
My aunt saw them in Reno earlier this year. She was sitting a little too close to the producers, and some of the magic was lost.

Pretty sure you are obligated to do whatever Simon Cowell made you to agree to at the start.

I wish they wouldn't even let singers on the show. There are already other shows for that.

There are other shows for Dancing too but they still go on this one. I like the singers more than most of the other silly acts---like roller skating in a circle holding onto your brothers beard...

I actually preferred that to the singers LOL

The problem with an act like that is it's only entertaining for 90 seconds.

Was trying to find a thread for this years AGT and came upon this thread. A question about the "gig" they get if they win. In the beginning, I think the winner did get a year in Vegas. I remember that being a big perk. And then it got less and less each year and now they get the 2-3 nights mentioned above. I think some of the acts have been offered longer gigs by Vegas establishments, but only after their contract with AGT ends. The players on American Idol I think are much more locked into what they are allowed to do and for how long.

We saw Tapeface and Puddles (separately) in shows and they were truly amazing. What they can do in 90 minutes is genius and incredibly talented and entertaining. Glad we got to find them through AGT.

There are a lot of singers this year. Can't believe that big choir made it. They were good but not that good for the golden buzzer. Not sure who was maybe the guy with the bow and arrow and knives . The one Simon said look he smiled when they said he was though. I said the same thing to my daughter.

Thought maybe the would cut the pregnant woman. Howie ? wasn't into them either.

The dog singing...our dog used to do that all the time. Would want to watch 90 minutes of that.

This is our summer pleasure to watch. Used to be Big Brother but stopped watching this season already and wasn't really into last year.

We've been able to see from Tom Cotter (twice), Olate Dogs, Piff the Magic Dragon and Terry Fator. Loved them all! Puddles is booked to do his show near us and I may try to get tickets.

I will tell you that Puddles was a huge surprise -- he does so much more than just sing. He had audience involvement and great skits and props. I'd see him again for sure. His humor had us in tears, but his voice is even more stunning in person. He sings with so little effort and just brings the house down!
