An Actual Dream that never ended (until it actually did..) Trip Report

Welcome everyone who has joined me for this trip report.
Our first time in Disney/Orlando/Florida/USA was absolutely incredible and we are definitely coming back (probably a cheaper option next time though..) :rolleyes1

So I'll start with some introductions

Just Me (was 25, celebrated my 26th on the day of writing this report) and my Husband Luke (24)

upload_2017-10-29_18-49-28.png

So we found out very quickly that we didn't do well staying in the parks all day, doing shows/fireworks and eating more than we should of. We wanted to do only what we wanted to do (my pre-planning would think otherwise..) but it was amazing. Our stay was at Port Orleans French Quarter and included the Disney dining plan, memory maker and our 14 consecutive day tickets. I can't wait to show this adventure with you all and I'll be doing a seperate dining and Universal trip report too :p. This trip really was full of surprises (the good, the bad and the ugly..) :rotfl:

Next: Travel Day!

Travel day Part 1

Ok, so we started driving to my mums the day before our flight because she lives 20 minutes from Manchester Airport. That day was Friday the 13th and I literally had the worst day in work. I was on the phone with our IT department because our till decided to not work (I work in a retail store as management), our delivery was late but somehow I managed to leave work an hour early (darn those pesky hours nearly hitting overtime..) So I gave Luke a long list of things to do (he managed to only bring the suitcases and bags). His mum drove us to my parents as soon as I finished and we arrived just before dinner time. A pretty uneventful drive but we did pass the sign for Manchester Airport if anyone's interested what British road signs and what it looks like to drive on the left..

rsz_20171013_153115.jpg

So we arrived, had early birthday dollars from my parents and sister, had dinner and I needed to print everything off.. Cue the first lot of freak outs I had. It was time to check in with American Airlines. All the ESTAs were in order, passports were all in date and I had my marriage certificate for immigration as I was travelling on my maiden name and is totally legal if it is your first marriage btw. So I checked us in, or so I thought.. Only Luke checked in online and I had to go to the desk.. And this is where my head started spinning, bile rising and that awful feeling. My mum tried her best to reassure me while my Dad was saying all sorts of somewhat funny things to lift the anxious mood in the room. I started thinking it was because I have dual citizenship (New Zealand) or I am using my maiden name and put my second last name on the ESTAs. I thought the worse was going to happen (clearly it didn't as we went) So I got my dad to weigh our suitcases (15 and 16kg respectively) and went to bed around 11pm.

We woke up at 5.30am as we had to leave just after 6am as the main road to the Airport was closed so had to go around the long way. We got to the airport just after 7am before our flight at 10.50am and to my surprise there were quite a few of us waiting for the desks to open. So it opened, the check in lady asked us to go to the self service check out and I explained that Luke was checked in but I wasn't and she said that we both needed boarding passes printed out anyway so it didn't even matter. She then explained that she needed to ask us a few security questions..

'Ma'am when was the last time you went out socialising with friends and family?' IS SHE ACTUALLY JOKING. I mean I'm serious, I have been saving a stupid amount of money and I work too many hours in the week to even go food shopping. Truthfully I said 'Oh dear, not in quite a few months' I then got 'and where was that? 'The Harbour' 'Thank you ma'am' 'and Sir where do you work?' 'Asda' 'and what is your managers name' 'Joe Bloggs'. I was like WHY COULDN'T YOU ASK ME THAT. Anyway we both had the same sticker on our passport so we must have been ok! Proceeded to the screen and insert my passport and then came up my name and someone else's with the same last name. I couldn't believe it.. WHO IS THIS PERSON ON MY BOOKING?! Even the check in agent was baffled and thought it must be a glitch. We carried on and got our boarding passes, luggage tags and proceeded to security.

We went through security and pulled out our liquids and phones out of our pockets and placed our backpacks on the belt. Yay metal detectors didn't go off but of course my bag was flagged. The lady pulled out my hairbrush and laughed to the other lady and just shrugged her shoulders and said 'Hairbrush hm'. She placed it back in the x-ray machine and gave me the thumbs up and I was good to go. Clearly a better sense of humour that morning at Manchester Airport. Happy days.

We had a few hours to kill before our flight so had some food (will be in dining report when I get round to it) and Luke had a go on the slot machine. We had a wonder through the tiny terminal that is Terminal 3 and Luke met someone famous in the twitter football world while I wondered around wanting some perfume (that I never got..)

rsz_20171014_084702.jpg

Our bird was here (A330-200 configuration 2-4-2) and it was a full flight. We sat by the gate for a good hour before we were about to start boarding and we were in group 6 (groups 1-9) for this flight in Economy. We were called down and everyone had to show the boarding passes for a second time after them scanning upstairs. Luke went first and they said 'to the left' and then I was next and they said 'to the right please ma'am' and that's when I realised my boarding pass had the dreaded SSSS typed on it (none of my other boarding passes had this on but I have a suspicion it was because that Michael Walsh was on my booking as he was on the long list as well). Luke said 'I'll wait for you' and I replied 'I won't be long because I haven't done anything'. So I was called up by two friendly security ladies who explained it is a secondary screening for people who travel to the USA at random (yeah.. okay). One frisked me while the other looked inside my bag and then started wiping it with the white tags you see they have on border security on TV, testing for drugs. I then had it wiped on both sides of my hands, my clothing, waist band and the soles of my feet. Obviously flashed up green with no drugs detected. I was free to go. The person who waved me to the right said thank you and touched my shoulder and I was allowed to board. I will have to take a photo of the boarding pass if I still have it. It was a pretty bizarre moment and then I got anxious of what happens when we get to Philadelphia at immigration on our stopover. Luke watched 3 games of football live as was most of the flight, I watched some films, had food and then we had a snooze.

Great start (but my nerves are frazzled just reading about your security issues)! Looking forward to your report!

Travel Day part 2

We landed at Philadelphia on time (1.40pm) and went straight to immigration. I had all the documents ready and my marriage certificate just in case. The lady asked for our names etc and was really friendly. We didn't need to show her anything so we had our fingerprints and photo taken and we were on our way to the baggage hall.
Our suitcases were already on the floor (for some reason?) and we proceeded to customs. We didn't bring any food items with us so we had nothing to declare and then our next stop was to drop off our luggage so they can go onto our next flight. The man who was putting the luggage on said ORLANDO? I said yes and he said 'ok thanks'. It seems like this was a bit of a whirlwind after a 7 hour flight and getting used to how the USA works. Onto security.. We had to take off our shoes and go in those x-ray machines. Luke was searched and I wasn't so happy days and we walked out into Terminal A East. WE MADE IT. HALLELUJAH.

rsz_20171014_145741.jpg

We were beyond tired at this point
It was time for food as we had 5 hours to kill before our next flight went. We could of gone on an earlier flight but I hate the thought if there are any delays etc. We had a good look around. Chickies and Pete's is meant to be really good but we had no energy to go into a bar and find a table so we saw a pizza place called Famous Famiglia. We ordered one cheese slice and one pepperoni and two medium sized pepsi's

rsz_20171014_152904.jpg

We then had a look in Hudson news and I was still feeling a bit peckish a few hours later so I got some Lays chips, kit kat and a bottle of coke. We couldn't believe the difference in taste but there definitely is. I think we had an overload on sugar on this trip! It was time to board to Orlando and it was certainly a full flight. It was pretty uneventful as we both slept the full 2 and a half hours. We got off the plane and proceeded on the monorail (yay for the first ride of the trip!) I'm pretty sure we went straight to the baggage hall. Suitcases started to come off and then the gate shut.. Where are our suitcases? Why have they not come through? We proceeded to an AA worker and asked for our suitcase barcode strip we got in Manchester. She said Disney has them.

Disney have our suitcases?! How is that even possible?!

So she showed us the reciept and it said picked up by Disney. How can Disney have our cases already and how can they get them without the yellow tag that only people in the US have? Anyways we proceeded to DME check in point. I said 'Hi there' 'WELCOME FRIENDS'. Great, over enthusiastic person at 11pm (4am at home) and he said everything is in order and you'll be going down line 7 I think he said. I just asked him a quick question about our suitcases 'COME INTO MY OFFICE YA'LL'. So he typed in the last name on the booking and he begins to say 'I have no idea how this has happened but we got them!' Again I said how is that even possible? He showed us the job sheet and it says our suitcases are at the resort. 'But we only arrived 30 minutes ago?' I started to wonder if our suitcases had gone on the earlier Orlando flight. We were just hoping they were at our room.

We jumped on the DME (the cruise line..) and it was a full bus load. We were stopping at OKW, Saratoga, POFQ (us) and POR.

rsz_120171014_221808.jpg

We were so tired

rsz_20171014_225439.jpg

We were finally here after years of planning
We made it and the lobby was absolutely beautiful but we just wanted to be in our rooms with our suitcases. We had a lovely gentleman who obviously loved his job. He gave us some mardi gras necklaces that my mother is the proud owner of and first visit pin badges. We asked him again if our suitcases were here and he said they were in our room. He was also confused how they ended up here and also wondered if it came on an earlier flight and because we had our WDW luggage tags that we got in our travel pack they may have thought instead of leaving them at the airport they would bring them to the resort. Check in took around 40 minutes, we grabbed our refillable mugs and we were finally on our way to Building 7.

Our luggage was here waiting for us with the sticker 'RUSH' on it. Great so it did go on an earlier flight but at least Disney got them for us. We entered the large room which had the AC on and was a welcomed chill. Would you believe me if I said that in the entire 2 weeks we slept in separate beds because they were that amazing?

rsz_20171014_235134.jpg

rsz_20171014_235220.jpg

What a beautiful room. It didn't even matter that we were the furthest building because it only took a few minutes to get anywhere. I hated that we had to set an alarm for 7.30am as it was our first day at Magic Kingdom and we had a breakfast reservation for 9am. He cried but soon went to sleep which was around 12.30am. What an eventful day we had but we were so glad after a bit of drama we were in America and at WDW, finally.

Loving your TR so far! So odd, yet awesome, they picked up your suitcases for you!

Wow that's a long day to start your trip. I live in the Philly area and if you come back you should try Chickie and Pete's. Looking forward to reading more

Joining in. Maybe the airlines felt bad for the extra security and rushed your luggage to Disney. Seems strange but it all worked out.

It was a very odd day but glad to see them 12 hours after checking in!

We definitely will. We weren't in the right frame of mind. We were either too tired or already had food!

Love reading your report.

Not sure but glad it did work out!

Our first Day - Magic Kingdom!
Steps - 27,028
The alarm was set for 7am (I was wide awake due to jet lag but Luke could happily had a few more hours). I went to the food court to get some drinks before we started our day. We were showered and rearing to go and we were out of the door by 8am.

Luke refused to wear the first visit pin badge!

So we arrived around 8.20am and we entered Magic Kingdom. I was totally overwhelmed by how big it is, how long main street is, how big the castle is! I had no idea what time it opened, I thought it was 9am and didn't know if any of the rides were open just yet. All I know is that we had a reservation at Be Our Guest at 9am.

rsz_20171015_081723.jpg

We were able to walk through that beautiful morning
So after we had a yummy breakfast at BOG we headed through Fantasyland with our first stop meeting Ariel. It was only a 10 minute wait and she was really fun. We had free memory maker with our UK booking but I made Luke take some on my phone as well.

After hanging out with Ariel we headed over to our first ride of the day.. The Barnstormer. It was a 5 minute wait and the attitude we took was 'why not!'. It was really hot that morning and we were later told it was in the 90s and very hot for October - I was not complaining! Anyway we jumped on that and it was so much fun! We were sat in the second row.

We had a quick stroll through Fantasyland and went to Tomorrowland. Our second 'ride' of the day was Buzz lightyear range spin. We enjoyed this one as we went on it a few more times during this trip but we never reached Galactic Hero (I never reached anywhere near! I think my gun was glitchy....)

rsz_mk_buzzlightyearride_20171015_8110987691.jpg

We clearly didn't have a plan as our next stop was Adventureland? Pirates of the Caribbean was only a 10 minute wait and Luke knew it was a water ride as we did the one in Paris and he absolutely loved it. Since we've been home he sings 'Yo ho, Yo ho, a pirates life for me' and his mum threatens she will lock him outside pirate::p

rsz_20171015_100313.jpg

For some reason both the times we went on this we didn't get a ride photo.. I'm not sure if it was down but there wasn't a flash either?

Anyways, after looking for the real Jack Sparrow Luke decided he wanted to go on It's a small world.. A 20 MINUTE WAIT. I said 'are you actually for real? You want me to wait 20 minutes?' and he really wanted to go on it. But first I wanted to see the Tangled restrooms.

rsz_20171015_102556.jpg

rsz_20171015_102927.jpg

Absolutely lovely detailing but now it was time to go on IASW..

rsz_20171015_105905.jpg

I'm sure I used to have little dolls like this when I was younger. Anyways, didn't like the ride in Paris and didn't like the ride here either. Luke somehow enjoyed it though. So after waiting 20 minutes it was time for our first fastpass..
Big Thunder Mountain Rail Road! Unfortunately I prefer the one at Paris as it sprays water at you. We were on within 5 minutes but the standby line was already at 50 minutes at 12pm. Luke didn't like it so we never went on it again.. and I didn't take any photos of the area either! I think my mind was elsewhere taking in all the surroundings.
We were waiting about 5 minutes till our next fastpass for Jungle Cruise. I can hands down say this is one of the best things we did, we went on it 3 times and even though some of the jokes are the same, the skippers are fantastic! Again no photos that day but I'm sure I took some on the Tuesday..
Finally at 1.30pm we had our last fastpass of the day, Space Mountain. I developed some sort of fear during the 2 weeks about the restraints.. If it went over my shoulder I was doomed so I thought I was ok on SM. Was I? No. I screamed the whole way through. I realised very quickly that I hated not being able to see where I'm going or being in the front row with no one next to me.

rsz_mk_spacemountaina_20171015_8111123692.jpg

Absolutely terrified.
So after a headache from screaming so much I was ready to go back to the resort to chill and wind down after a busy morning. Luke obviously had other plans and wanted to go on Tomorrowland Speedway, another 20 minute wait in the 90 degree sunshine. I thought another ride done on this holiday!
We took a selfie but I'll have to get it from Lukes phone.. He had the steering wheel while I took the pedals. The fumes made me feel even more sick on top of what I already felt. Yay.

I needed a chill, and the Gods spoken as the theatre opened for Carousel of Progress. It was cute and glad it took 20 minutes of our time away from the sun and so I could sprawl out on a seat.. 'It's a great big beautiful tomorrow'.

It was finally time to get some food at the Crystal Palace. I promise I'll be making my dining report real soon! Here's some photos that we took

We headed back to the resort and chilled out for a little bit and then headed to Disney Springs on the boat. It turned out that we loved the boat so much and one of the days we were on our own and had an amazing chat with one of the captains! We just had a walk around and went into the World of Disney but it was really busy so we just headed back to the resort and rested.

Next up: We're off to Hollywood!

I also love jungle cruise. I always book a fast pass for nite time. I have eaten at BOG for supper only. Did you like the breakfast?

We're in Hollywood
Steps - 25,204
The first thing we do in the morning is open the door to see how hot it was in the morning. Wow we were already at 24 degrees at 8am and knew it was getting hotter. The buses were a bit of a mess that morning but hey ho, off to Hollywood we go.

rsz_20171016_143740.jpg

Our fastpasses were Rock n Roller, Tower of Terror and Star Tours. We would do TSMM if the wait wasn't too long but weren't bothered if we couldn't get on it. So we had a quick stroll to assess where we were. I saw that the Olaf meet and greet was only a 5 minute wait so we went to that first and it was probably my favourite meet and greet we had.

rsz_20171016_093729.jpg

This made us all in the room literally LOL

We exited and made our way down the side of the building to meet Sorcerer Mickey and Minnie. If you're new to the parks but did a tonne of research still pick up a map at the front of the park. This gave us a great idea where we were going next, how long we had to get to our next fastpass instead of following the signs.
Only a 10 minute wait for Mickey and Minnie.

Luke loved this meet. Mickey was really awesome and tried to create a conversation even though he can't speak (at this one).
We finished up and had a look around. We started to walk to Star Wars Launch Bay and saw that BB-8 was a 10 minute wait but we didn't see Chewbacca or Kylo Ren as they were already at 50 minutes.

rsz_studio_droid1char_20171016_405578596402.jpg

We walked outside and saw the Disney Junior place and who did we see.. Luke's favourite character Pluto! Luke was absolutely in awe and I knew his mum would kill me if we didn't get a photo with him (just kidding but she would probably disown me..)

rsz_studio_plydschar3_20171016_405578877573.jpg

Onto Rock n Roller Coaster we go. We've done the one at Paris and I have no idea if the track is different but I was still petrified. I wish I cancelled it after having a near freak out on Space Mountain. The standby line was 90 minutes and the fastpass line was where you scan your magic band/card but we thought at least we would get out of the heat. We probably waited 10 minutes outside and it went quite quick when we were inside but I was getting more nervous each time I heard the screams of people who were being thrown into darkeness (literally).

And here's our ride photo

rsz_studio_rocknrcoasterride_20171016_8111597143.jpg

I couldn't hold it together as my eyes were filling with water and screaming the whole way round the track. I'm sure I looked like a fright when we went into the gift shop. I will have to find the ride photo we got from Paris.
We got a fun photopass shot before heading to our second fastpass, Tower of Terror.

rsz_studio_sunsetrock_20171016_405580658997.jpg

I love Tower of Terror. I loved it in Paris and I loved it here, I had absolutely no idea that the sequencing was at random either!

rsz_20171016_113227.jpg

rsz_studio_towerofterrorbride_20171016_8111619351.jpg

Can you spot us?
I must say if you want a sneak peek at Toy Story land go on this. Seriously! I could see the slinky coaster and would of gone on again but it was 60 minute standby..
We walked out and heard the March of the First Order and it was a sea of people. Until the storm troopers were walking back and we were at the front where the crowd splits! We didn't see Luke's dad though

rsz_20171016_120721.jpg

rsz_20171016_120735.jpg

How appropriate that we were going on Star tours next. We had a bit of time to kill so went into a few shops and just missed the Indiana Jones stunt show. We had to get a couple of drinks as by this point It was 31 degrees.. Yikes!
We had a look around the Muppets Courtyard and went into the Christmas shop but nothing was really catching our eyes!
Anyway will only 20 minutes till our reservation at Sci Fi we somehow were able to scan our magic bands 5 minutes early and only took 5 minutes to get loaded into our ship. The young girl next to Luke was chosen to be the Rebel Spy.. I was devastated! We had it to Sci Fi with 5 minutes spare.

We decided it was time to head back to the resort as we were shattered and had a reservation at Beaches and Cream later on - Spoiler: would you believe me if I said Luke was throwing up at the entrance to the Beach club?!:rotfl:
We obviously didn't do anything that night and we were going to go to Magic Kingdom in the morning so cancelled all our fastpasses and decided we would have a lie in and go back to Disney Springs to relax.

Next up: It's really not that scary!

It's Really Not That Scary!
Steps 30,079

So after Luke was sick after our meal (I think it was dehydration to be honest as I wasn't sick) we thought it was best if we cancelled our fastpasses at MK for the morning and chill. We got the boat to Disney Springs and did a bit of window shopping and had some lunch at Raglan Road.

We got a few bits for our parents from the Coca Cola shop and Harley Davidson and went back to our room to chill before getting ready for MNSSHP. I rebooked our fastpasses and got Haunted Mansion, POTC and Buzz Lightyear. I got my silver sparkly minnie ears to go with my sparkly glitter shoes and we got Luke a pluto hat later on in the evening from Tomorrowland.

rsz_mk_msathclb_20171017_405612947682.jpg

We arrived at Magic Kingdom just after 4pm and headed to Haunted Mansion - already at 50 minutes so we were glad we had a fastpass. We saw a photopass photographer who was taking photos at the exit. We actually got stuck on the ride as it broke down for a couple of minutes no free fastpasses this time
We went to the photopass photographer for a few photos!

rsz_mk_hauntedmansionexit_20171017_405613795666.jpg

Next up we wondered over to POTC, we actually arrived 10 minutes before our fastpass but let us through anyway (I kept telling Luke off for doing this lol). We didn't even make it on the ride as it broke down! We waited about 20 minutes but on our way out we redeemed our fastpasses and were told we can go on anything except 7DMT and Luke wanted to do Jungle Cruise so that's where we went. I do really love the skippers and I love the interaction between guests and I know the jokes are repetitive but we love it. After an enjoyable cruise we were off to Tomorrowland where the lights on the castle changed and everyone started coming in. We went over the Buzz Lightyear and were on within 5 minutes and my score was still terrible, I would be an awful galactic hero. We still had a bit of time to kill as it wasn't even 7 yet and we started to regret our decision coming in early as we were getting really tired and Luke still wasn't feeling 100%. We thought the Peoplemover was a good idea as we could chill for a bit. Afterwards we had a stroll around the Emporium and went through the shops. We got our friends the Limited Edition Halloween pin but they never received it back at home as it was lost in the mail. I regret not sending it recorded delivery but we honestly didn't think it would get lost - they got us the Limited Christmas party pin when they went in November. Luke also got me a charm bracelet with 3 charms as I wasn't feeling great and I knew he wanted to get me something!

FINALLY it was 7pm and the trick or treat trails opened. I'm 99% sure we went through all of them and had quite a bit of candy. The lines in Tomorrowland were ridiculous as that's where I think a lot of people start out. The Monsters Inc dance party started and I got to see Mike and Sully! After making it round all 5 of the areas around Magic Kingdom we settled down and watched the Hocus Pocus Show which was quite good. By the end we were getting very tired and had banging headaches. We walked up Main street towards the end as the parade was starting. We both decided we would watch the parade and go back to the resort. There was no way we could make it till 10pm as it was only just coming up to 8! The parade was good and loved the guys with the spades and the headless horseman! That was really neat. We couldn't believe the amount of people who were leaving as well and people who were coming into the parks as well! If we were feeling better then we definitely would have stayed but we got back to the resort and had a large pizza - just what we needed.
