I'm going to my GP to get the dizzy/fainting spells checked out. I just started seeing an endocrinologist (have been treated for the Hashimoto's for over a year already with my GP) and she said she doesn't think the dizzy/fainting stuff is related to the thyroid issues.

I started the fainting stuff in September, and up until recently it was only really happening when I had to get blood drawn (never had a problem with drawing blood before September). Now, it's coming out of the blue and hitting whenever.

Just wondered if anybody else experienced a combination of symptoms like this and what it wound up being.

I was Diagnosed with Hashimoto's 24 years ago..have taken Thyroxine ever since. I have never had fainting spells...but have had a light headedness on and off for years. Comes and goes..I am on Paxil (small dosage) and that has made a huge difference in that. I have never been told that it might be related to the Hashimoto's though:confused3

I had low blood pressure from mine. This caused my heartrate to go down to 45 beats per minute following the birth of DS. (They STILL didn't figure out the stupid diagnosis for another 3 years!)

Anyway, yes, I had issues with severe dizziness, and passing out on occasion. They upped my meds, and added Cytomel (T3, I think.)

Good luck. I did have to go to a specialist, though.

I thought it might be related to the thyroid stuff, just because of the general exhausted yucky feeling that comes when it's all out of whack.

My GP was doing a good job treating the thyroid stuff, but we decided to send me to a specialist because my antibody levels have been consistently over 1,000 every blood test for over a year now. He thought my thyroid shold have died by now, but it hasn't.

Hopefully it will get taken care of one way or another.

Here's a link to an entire thread on these boards related to Thyroid issues. Maybe you could post your question there and get more responses.

I was diagnosed in January with Hashimoto's. I too have periods feeling lightheaded, my endocrinologist didn't seem worried, said I just had a baby, not sleeping, but it still worries me, so I'd like to see what type of answers you get. Good luck.

Thanks for the link. :) I've posted on that thread a few times but never got any responses. I just post my questions here now b/c there's more traffic, so I'm more likely to get an answer. I might go back and try the other one again, though.

I'll let you know what the Doctor says later today, too.

Have your dr check your adrenal function. While the meds for my hypothyroidism helped with a lot of my symptoms, it didn't help with the lightheadedness/shortness of breath. I saw a cardiologist who put me on Florinef for adrenal support -- it did the trick.

Oftentimes, thyroid and adrenal problems go hand-in-hand, especially with the autoimmune hypoT's like Hashimoto's.

Good luck!

I saw the Nurse Practitioner. She's of the opinion that my dizzyness/fainting spells are due to an inner ear problem. Here's the kicker - she thinks the inner ear problem is caused by a sinus infection or inflammation that I don't have. I tried to tell her that I don't have a sinus problem (and haven't had anything wrong with my sinuses for weeks), and have a history of dizzyness/fainting that they haven't found the cause for yet but she wouldn't listen.

So, now I'm home with 2 prescriptions she wrote for me (something for vertigo and nasonex) and a sample of Nasonex. I filled the vertigo one, but I'm not filling the Nasonex one immediately because I don't have a sinus problem.

Ugh!

My poor mom saw a PA for dizziness, once, and the ditz didn't even look in her ears. Just kept saying she didn't have vertigo, and then gave her vertigo meds...!

She had an ear infection.

Some people don't listen or think. I hope that you get this figured out. do you have a BP cuff? We bought one for my husband, and it was useful in documenting that there was something funky going on.

I don't have a BP cuff at home, but there is a grocery store on my way home that has one of the "check your blood pressure and pulse here" things.

Your poor Mom. :( How long did it take to figure out that she had the ear infection?

She went about 3 weeks later, because she needed a hearing aid.

I agree about getting the adrenal stuff checked. Thyroid medication is never supposed to be given unless that has been checked. Even though not one single doctor I have seen has done it. I also have Hashimoto's. Been in a fog for about 6 years now. I am going to a new doctor next month who hopefully can help me.

Anyway, I have only had major dizziness one morning and ended up having to go to the doctor it was so bad. They said it was vertigo. It has never happened that bad again. I do have a little lightheadeness here and there though.

I hope your new doctor can help you!

I don't know if this will help you or not, but it is really strange how all this stuff is connected. My husband has issues with kidney stones for several years and since he only has one kidney they were fairly aggressive in trying to find the cause for them. It turned out to be an issue with a tumor on one of his parathyroid glands. It was severely elevating his calcium level and causing the kidney stones. They scheduled him for surgery.

At the same time all this was going on he started having spells of ringing and pressure in his ears and vertigo. The first one got blamed on an inner ear infection and it cleared up after a course of steroids and some other meds. He had a few more bouts over the next 18 months and ended up with a dianosis of Meniere's disease.

When they were preparing to do the surgery for the parathyroid glands they didn't like the looks of his thyroid and decided it had to go too. After the surgery, when his endocrine levels all got back to normal, all his Meniere's symptoms disappeared. He just visited his doctor today and had an audiology test and everything came back normal. I guess what I am trying to say is that it may be tied together and they need to look harder... or it may not :).

Have you had all other types of blood tests run?

I also have thyroid issues because I don't have a thyroid but it's so easy for me to blame all my ailments on that.

Over the last few years, I was having lots of dizzyness/balance issues and didn't know what it was. Quite by accident, I found I was iron deficient (at the dermatologist no less) and once I got that resolved, most of my "odd" symptoms have cleared up. It was only after a few years that I tipped over into being mildy anemic, but the deficiency had been going on for awhile and it was very bad.

So has your doctor run a full panel/battery of blood work.

Alright......dizziness and sinus's. Did you know that you have sinus's practically all over your skull?? You know the little nook area in the back of your skull, that your spine goes up into? There's sinus's on both sides of that thing.

I didnt know I had a sinus infection BACK THERE until I started getting really, really dizzy. Long story short - it finally got painful, I thought I was having a stroke, as the dizzies were worse, and the pain in the back of my skull was wretched!!!. They did a CAT scan, and some augmentin cleared it up. Sinus innfections, can be WAYYYYY deep in there, and when thet are - you're not nasally and stuffy - youre dizzy!!!

Because I had such a doozey of an infection that one time, Im now prone to them (Go Me!!! ) And I know to go to the DR when I start with the dizzies.

ALSO - Dizziness can be connected to anxiety. I get that too.

Im a rocking and a rolling and a whoosing mess!!!

Yes yes yes! Thank u for posting! Diagnosed with Hashimoto's from a "pass out feeling" experience that scared me to death! Been with normal GP 6 months but still having these feelings randomly! I can't figure out what is triggering them! Thyroid numbers are apparently "normal" so I started seeing an Endocrinologist a couple months ago. Both Dr.s Think it may not be my thyroid..... So what is it? In my mind it's definitely associated with my thyroid? Help!

I was first diagnosed with convulsive syncope (fainting along with seizure like convulsions) which led to a lot of testing of my heart and neuro functions. A couple months later I got diagnosed with hashimotos thyroiditis and they explained that hashimotos could be playing a huge factor in my syncope(fainting)! For any of you wondering if your dizzy/fainting spells could be related, it's a major possibility!
