Anyone attempting to go to Galaxy's Edge in the first few months/year of opening? Do you have a plan/strategy?

What's your Galaxy's Edge Strategy?

I sure hope this is the case as I do not want to spend part of my vacation "camping" in a parking lot, and would be a bit upset if I could not get in to a reserved anything if the park hit capacity, I am sure there will be fluff in the allowed heads they let in to adjust for the reserved people as with them they know the number of people on the reservation. My only concern is IF there will be a HUGE, larger then mass of people all trying to get in, how will they distinguish between the hopefuls ( no reservations) and reserved people (with reservations), separate line, different entrance???....:confused3
I imagine that hypothetically before the land hits capacity anyone can go in - after capacity you’d likely have to show your reservation confirmation and if you don’t have one then you’re not getting into the land.

I am curious as I have NEVER done a Disney park opening or any other for that fact. when Pandora opened, 1) did it reach max capacity
2) how did Disney handle the crowds then
3) mornings are going to be crazy with the masses trying to squeeze in but did Pandora taper off during the day
4) VQ or?
5) do you happen to know how the rest of Animal Kingdom was crowd wise/ride wise

Just curious as I will be there on the 29th but dont have a reservation till 8AM and was hoping for entry between 6-7AM as I was hoping to get to Ronto before Savi's..........
1) the land reached capacity and people had to line up for hours to get in while people were coming out
2) there were lines set up. Only people with FP were allowed in for their fp time
3) it got better through out the day
4) no vq but the attractions had fp
5) I'm not sure. I got there before 5am and stayed until closing, inside the land, cause if I left I wouldn't have been able to get back in

Possible? Sure. Likely enough to ratchet up someone's anxiety over this maybe happening during their trip? Probably not.
Well actually it’s highly likely that there will be times the land hits capacity, during the first few days of opening especially. I have no idea when the poster’s trip is, but it’s good to have an idea of what’s possible. Not sure why you read that as spreading anxiety.

The park hitting capacity is a different thing from the land hitting capacity. I think it makes sense for the LAND to reach capacity a few times during the first few days of opening, which, as far as I can tell, means there will be a line of persons waiting to get in like there was at Pandora, and they will be let in as folks leave. Plus a separate entrance for holders of reservations. The entire park probably won't reach capacity.

Pandora is actually pretty small, not sure how much capacity they will be able to allow at one time for SWGE.

Within the first few days doesn't seem unusual but the person asking the question didn't specify when their trip is planned. After this weekend I'd be surprised if the land hit capacity again until RotR. I could be wrong I just don't think it's worth stressing about :) I'll be there Sunday, planning to utilize EEMH, have a Savi's res at 10am so we're covered but that was more coincidental than a firm plan to ensure entrance.

just saw a report that display boards for boarding groups (virtual queue) are going up at DHS. don't know which days they might need to use it, other than the opening day. (Disney also hasn't officially confirmed that a virtual queue will be used at DHS, they're "officially" just putting up some extra display boards for wait times)

now they are putting VQ flyers in the rooms. looks straightforward. I assume there will be an update coming to MDE. Although they don't specify if you must be inside DHS to join the virtual queue.

So how does VQ work ? Basically reserving your spot to enter the land electronically and then coming to the entrance at the assigned time ?

Sort of. I think the way they did it in DL was that you "got in line" with the virtual queue. Rather than being assigned a time, they contacted you when it was your turn. From the time they sent the notification you had 2 hours to enter the land.

anyone looking to go Sunday, or Monday, maybe beyond if he slows down, may need to contend with Dorian the tropical storm. If it just drops a lot of rain, it could bring the crowds down pretty drastically though.

I wouldn't mind that TBH, Sunday is our SWGE day (but I will be super bummed if I can't ride SDD).

I've never heard of parks closing for a tropical storm, but outdoor rides like SDD would definitely be shut down. High wind might cause cancellation of fireworks shows. but put on some rain gear and hit the Millenium Falcon...

it'll be amazingly low crowds if the track continues the way it's coming. Take advantage folks (unless it intensifies then stay in your rooms) because Safety is Universal...oh wait, wrong park. Because SafeD begins with Me :D

I wanted to share my idea of how we will handle DHS during our trip. It is just my wife and I and we plan on spending time at DHS until afternoon and then we will be going back to the hotel for a nap before spending the evening having dinner and possibly going to Jelly Rolls. This plan is for Tuesday Sept 24th. My thought is we'll go into SWGE first thing at 6am (probably get to the park around 5 or 5:30). We are staying at BCV so we'll walk over most likely. Keep in mind that SWGE is for me because I love Star Wars and really want to see it. I think my wife will have a nice time but we'll have to do other things in the park for her so we'll need to leave SWGE and come back in later for reservations. I am hoping that people with SWGE reservations will be able to get back into the land since our reservations are right before/at lunch.

    1. Arrive SWGE at 6am and go straight onto MFSR.
    2. Shop around the SWGE shops (specifically Doc Ondars at a minimum) and possibly get a wrap at Rontos after riding MFSR.
    3. Exit into Toy Story land and ride TSM standby.
4.Use FP for Star Tours (9:10-10:10)
    5. Try to ride ToT if possible
    6. Spend some time duing stuff without waits in DHS
    7. See Muppet Vision if time permits (I have FP from 10:20-11:20 but might just tap in and skip it to make sure I can book more FP in Epcot for the evening)
    8. If we have time see more DHS stuff or try to ride something else.
    9. Re-enter SWGE for our Oga's reservation at 11:15
    10. Savi's is after Oga's at 12:10p
    11. Exit into TSL and ride SDD with fastpass (12:35-1:35)
    12. Leave park back to hotel.

What does everyone think? I am thinking this should be ok. My wife can't handle RnR so we won't try to get on that. She would like to do ToT and TSM so those are in the plans as standby (she also wanted SDD so thankfully we have a FP+ for that).

I think it looks good. That is similar to my plan with 6 people the Wednesday before. I have kids so I’ll probably skip the shops and leave the land after riding the MF. I plan to try TSM and SDD standby before heading back to my Ogas reservation at 10am. I will explore the land then. If I can get both TSM and SDD done I will move my fast passes to Epcot for the evening. If not I have SDD fast pass at night.

    Have something similar

Arrive same time and do what you're doing.
Go to TSL for SSD and maybe TSM
    Head over to RnRC
    FP for ToT at 9
    Ogas res at 1010am
    Maybe ride MFSR again
    lunch
    Leave around Noon for AK
    Do FoP and Everest
    Go to Epcot for F&W

Planning to go in June. Hoping the hype has died down some. Also really hoping there is an early morning or after hours event.
