Are people still smoking on their verandahs?

How can a person that claims is about to die because he/she can't breathe due to smokers go outside at all?
Because a motor vehicle emits around 100 parts per million (ppm) particles of carbon dioxide (CO) per KM. That's 1 car. Imagine being stuck in traffic.
An entire pack of cigarettes (20 cigarettes!!) emits around 20 ppm of CO, which is mostly absorbed by the smoker. (and yes, some goes to SHS)
How does a person who claim can't breathe near a smoker can do so effortlessly behind a car, walk on the streets? Even be on a cruise ship, given that the ship's funnel generates orders of magnitude more ppm of CO than smokers. I don't get it.

Because the CO is not what they are allergic to!

Some times there can be a smell in the cabin. It has to do with some type of plumbing trap getting dried out. Not really sure what kind of trap it is, but have read about it on here. Hopefully someone who knows more will comment. You can pour some water down the drains (again, not entirely sure where you pour the water, guessing the tub and sinks??) and the smell will go away. We've stayed on deck 2 on the Magic, Wonder, and Fantasy and have never smelled anything like sewage or anything else that's bad.
There's a small grate on the floor near the toilet. That's where you pour the water. It's my understanding that there's a u shaped pipe under there that needs to have water in there to seal the odors from backing up through the pipes. Often that water dries out a bit and doesn't seal it.

Allergies are funny in that just because you react to one thing - an allergen for you - you do not to another - a non-allergen for you.

Like how I am allergic to peanuts but not almonds.

Or some people are allergic to shellfish but not other things that swim.

One theory as to why allergies are more prevalent is how sterile we keep everything now and how indoors we tend to be. Kids don’t get the chance to build up a defense system. (Ditto why people tend to get more colds and such and they are more severe - much lower built-up immunity.)

As to why people complain more when they smell it? Probably because since fewer places allow it and the stench that did permeate places has been removed with repainting, etc. we notice it much more. Which, yes. Is a catch-22 I realize.

Interesting. I'm not an expert on how allergies work but what you say makes sense.
20-30 years ago peanut allergies and others were so rare, or non existent... it's crazy how many people are allergic to something these days.
And yeah I totally agree with how ppl would be annoyed by the smell of smoke. I'm disgusted by it too (I hate the smell of cigarettes).
Back in the smoking-allowed-in-the-verandah days often our SR would smell of cigarette due to other cruisers nearby smoking and because we would leave the door open regularly. I prefer how it is nowadays tbh. I'm all for wide, smoke-free areas and regulations but to demonize or ban smokers and treat them as pariahs is just dangerous.
As someone else said on this thread, once they ban all smoking, next will be alcohol, burgers, greasy foods, even cars. (it's already being proposed in the 'green new deal')
I'm a libertarian so I want freedoms to exist for all.

I never said that smoke would make me die. My point was that people with lung diseases have to deal with many problems and some days it can be pretty bad. If smoke can affect people then why not ban it in public spaces. Maybe asthma and allergies are more common now than they were 20 years ago but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to accommodate those people.

So what are they allergic to? Cigarette smoke is mainly CO! sure, there are other chemicals but CO is the main one.

I have developed asthma as an adult and the number one thing that causes flare ups for me is cigarette smoke. My mom has smoked my entire life, my grandpa is a heavy smoker and smokes indoors. I’ve always had seasonal allergies and it’s a very different feeling than just “allergies”. Cigarettes don’t just burn off CO2, they also burn off tobacco, nicotine, tar and other chemicals that are used to make them. Those things settle into the moist linings of airways and damage the parts of the airways that help clean them out. If I am exposed to enough cigarette smoke, it literally feels like there is someone standing on my chest sometimes the feeling goes away other times it stays with me and develops into bronchitis. When I am out I avoid smoke as much as possible, having smoking areas makes this easier. Honestly part of the reason I picked Disney is because they have smoking areas and no casino with smoke. I’ve also never met a smoker who was upset by having to use a smoking area. Everyone knows its not healthy for the smokers or others around smoke, years ago people didn’t so it doesn’t make sense to say that it was allowed years ago so still should be.
