The boat will take you close enough to take pictures but won't dock at the memorial. Safety issues. Might need to replace dock.

Safety first, of course but I will be disappointed if we don't dock at the memorial. PH was the #2 reason we chose to vacation on Oahu (Aulani was the #1 reason, of course!)

Here is the post on the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument’s Facebook page:

“Please be advised that boat transport to the USS Arizona Memorial will be temporarily discontinued on Monday, May 7, 2018, due to a recently detected crack in the supporting structure for the visitor loading ramp. Facility specialists have already begun evaluations of the problem and the National Park Service will continue this structural safety assessment tomorrow.

USS Arizona Memorial programs will continue as schedule. However, visitors will be taken on harbor tours in the vicinity of the Memorial instead of disembarking there. We will inform the public of any changes to visitor access and make every effort to resume normal operations as soon as possible. Please understand that visitor safety is our primary concern, and we thank everyone for their understanding and patience.

Visitation to our partner sites, including the Battleship Missouri Memorial, the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park, and the Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor, will not be affected.

For additional updates, please visit www.nps.gov/valr or our Facebook page.”

Just a reminder that the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial is jointly maintained jointly by the U.S.Navy and the National Park Service. The tours to the U.S.S. Arizona were suspended in 2016 for repair work and replacement of the pier structure.

Bummer! Of course safety first…but I hope it's all fixes by the end of July! My 60 day mark is approaching in a couple of weeks. Hopefully more specific information will be available.

Watch the “World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument” Facebook page for updates. That is where they post the latest information.

I was there Sunday. Announcement with status was supposed to be released today. Employees, not sure if they're better then Disney bus drivers, think dock will have to be replaced. Six weeks is the consensus.

Good news! This was posted on their Facebook page. Still a chance our boatride could be cancelled due to weather but at least boat rides will be happening during our trip (less than 5 weeks to go!)

Good news! Boat transport to the USS Arizona Memorial will be reinstated on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, following a temporary suspension to investigate a crack in the supporting structure for the visitor loading ramp. Structural repairs were made today by the monument’s facilities chief and members of the Concrete Preservation Institute, a non-profit educational foundation that partners with the National Park Service.

While safety of the visiting public was our primary concern, an effort was made to resume operations as quickly as possible. Thank you again for your understanding and patience through this process.

Concrete Preservation Institute
Sounds like some sort of archaeological group preserving some fossil of ancient 20th century life..like VCRs and phones with cords...LOL

Seriously though, cool that people do work like that to help our national monuments. Hopefully all you DIS'ers with upcoming trips will now get to visit the memorial.

Uh oh...

FYI, as a side note:Someone on trip advisor said that the boat rides are at least narrated whereas if you dock at the memorial, no narration is provided.

Posted on their FB yesterday:

Please be advised that boat transportation to the USS Arizona Memorial is temporarily suspended until further notice, as we address the structural integrity of the facility. Park staff and specialists have assessed the situation and are determining the course of action that needs to be taken. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Visitors with tickets will view the documentary in the theater followed by a narrated harbor tour in the vicinity of the memorial without disembarking. We will inform the public of any changes to visitor access and make every effort to resume normal operations as soon as possible. Visitor safety is our primary concern, and we thank you for your understanding and patience.

Visitation to other amenities within the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, such as the free museums, shoreside exhibits, snack shop, and Pacific Historic Parks Bookstore, will not be affected. Similarly, our partner sites, the Battleship Missouri Memorial, the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park, and the Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor, will not be affected.

For additional updates, please visit www.nps.gov/valr and our Facebook page.

Damage was determined to be worse then originally thought. Boats won't be able to dock at the Arizona until further notice.
