Barca33Runner's Journal: Thanks For Noticin' Me(Comments Welcome)

I’m deep in the weeds on my scoreboard updates and will need the next week to compile and figure out exactly where I am. It may not entirely matter though because I’m thinking with the early Marathon Weekend next year coinciding with school break crowds that it would be a good year to take a break. But…my niece and nephew are very excited to run again, it’s a bunch of anniversaries, and my inclination is always to sign up for something.

Although it was a single Half Marathon, it felt really good to finish everything I signed up for this weekend. A few random observations on the race and Vegas:

-I absolutely loved the course. Out South-Back-Out North-Back. We only left the strip (Las Vegas Boulevard) for a couple blocks at the turnaround to come back to the finish line. Flat the whole way. Always had a good sense of where I was in relation to the field.
-After seeing Las Vegas Boulevard during the other days of our stay it’s absolutely amazing that they were able to shut it down for 11 hours for the race.
-Running at night was better for me than the early morning. I’ll never be a morning person.
-Aria was a perfect location for us. Very close to the exit from the finish chute of the race (which extended ~1 mile) and central for the rest of our stay so we could check out most everything on the strip on foot.
-Food made Disney almost seem reasonable. It was all very good, but it’s priced that way. My favorite dish I ate was the Grilled Spanish Octopus at Catch in Aria.
-Enjoyed our Cirque shows but those will probably be my last ones for a while. Their aesthetic isn’t my vibe; I wanted fun music and acrobatics and there was a lot of self-serious and (in my opinion) ham-fisted allegory. O was pretty amazing (we marveled at the set even more than the performers) and Love was enjoyable. The seats at the Love theater were shockingly small; I know I’m a big guy but I’ve never had to sit like a T-Rex at a movie theater. It definitely negatively shaded our impressions of that show.
-Room and hotel were very nice. Aria casino also was my favorite aesthetically although they were all very similar.
-Expo was at Resorts World, which was one of the few Ubers we took. It was doable as a walk, but it would have been time consuming. The property was very nice. As a huge Celine Dion fan I hope that her health issues improve whether she is able to perform again or not; but after being there it would definitely be very tempting to plan a trip if she is able to reschedule her dates there.
-Overall, it was cool to see Vegas for the first time and I’m excited to go back some time. I’d absolutely run this race again if it works out in my schedule. There was a lot to do, even for a non-gambler like myself (I spent my time at nickel poker machines, I could play for hours on $20 :rotfl2:, or watching others in my group at the casino).
