Bass Fishing Questions! Help!

When we went to see the Hoop De Doo last year, we saw the info and pictures on the bass fishing excursions WDW has by the Fort Wilderness docks. If you have gone, can you answer some questions for me please? I would love to take the DW and the DD6 fishing with a guide at WDW. We are going to be there seven days. MK, AK, Epcot, MGM and Blizzard Beach will take up five of them. The last day, we'll be leaving to go to Vero Beach. That leaves us one day to maybe fish. What are the times? Are they every hour on the hour and how long do the trips last? If it's raining, do they cancel it? If they cancel it, you get your money back right? If I set it up for our second day and it gets rained out, can I maybe set it up for one or two days later or are those trips already booked 120 or 60 days out? I would love to have a professional guide be sure my DD6 catches some bass, not to mention my DW and, of course, me! Thanks in advance!

If you call 407-WDW-PLAY (407)393-7529 They can give you all the times and info on the fishing excursions. This is also the number that you would call to book it.

hope this helps.

I've done it, but I don't know the answer to most of your questions.... sorry. I was on the grand plan at the time so it was free and it didn't rain. The fishing guide is really great. He knows exactly where to take you to catch fish. I caught a few and my wife caught 4. It was a lot of fun. Soda is served on the boat. The guide even took us aligator watching. We didn't get to see any, but we did see where they slept.

I have done the fishing excursion a few times. It's alot of fun. I have always caught at least 2 fish. It's all catch and release. I have always taken the one leaving from Port Orleans or Dixie Landings(POR now). I'm not sure about all of the times they leave. I have always done the 6am or 8am trips. the trips are for 2 hours with approx 1.5 hours of fishing time. They supply rods, reels, bait and sodas. The ones I have taken generally go to the downtown disney area to fish. I had one time when the trip was cancelled and they refunded my money and helped me booke one for later in the week.

We have gone on the escorted bass fishing 3 times. Each time we had different results. The first time my son and I caught 12+ BIG bass between us.( The fish at WDW are all catch & release and thus get fatter and fatter). The next time we caught a few, but they were HUGE.The last time we caught Zip, maybe one fish, and the conditions were terrible. We took the same trip each time, out of Ft. Wilderness, and had a great time.I'll do it again someday.:)

My Dh took our 3 oldest kids(9,11,12) in Dec 01, from the Poly. It cost about 180 plus tax at that time. Live bait(shiners) were extra. They caught about 15-20 good size fish. I booked it 60-90 days out(not sure which it is). They left at 7 am and it was about a 2 hr excursion. The kids loved it and wanted to do it again. If I hadn't already paid for the MVMCP tickets, I would have let them fish instead of that.

I tried the fishing excursion out of DTD a couple years ago. It was great, but ick, I just couldn't put the shiner bait on myself!

Since it is on Disney property and it is catch and release, do you need an out of state fishing liscense? DH would like to try this on our next trip.

Wow! You've all made me want to do this even more now! I guess that's the best bet, to call now and find out when the times are and how far in advance to book it and what the cancellation policy is.
Thanks everyone!

we go every summer...
every time we've been picked up at the contemporary hotel..
at the end of the time, the guide takes us over to fort wilderness to pay and then back to the contemporary hotel, so it includes a nice boat ride besides the fishing boat ride part of it...
we always catch a lot of fish (as noted about, the HUGE bass....)
all the guides we've had so far were great and by the way, they'll put the shiners on the hook for you.....

kiley,
no fishing liscence is required.
you don't have to use the live bait if you don't want to; you can also use plastic if the shiners gross you out.

My daughter, 6, and I did the excursion that leaves from the Yacht Club dock when we were staying at the BCV in 09/02. The guide we had was great! We caught 4 fish, at least my daughter "caught" them, and the guide said that was a slow day. The biggest was about 4 pounds. What was cool was that after he left the dock, he went to the BW side of Crescent Lake to start fishing and then went through the canal into World Showcase Lagoon. It was really cool fishing along side the country pavillions you visited during the day. All the reservation and pricing info above is correct. My daughter wants to do it again when we go in June. What was best about the trip was that when we took the DVC tour at BWV in 06/02 we saw one of the excursion boats fishing right next to the Boardwalk and my daughgter said that's what she wanted to do - and only three months later she did. She is still talking about it.

What are the chances? This month's Disney magazine has an article about the bass fishing tours!
You have all convinced me to give it a try! I'll be sure to post about it when we return (just under six months to go now!)....

I know that you can fish off the shore at FW. I am not sure about at other resorts though.
