You really think that student who took out 200K for an undergrad degree experienced a lot of financial sacrifice? That's kind of hard for me to fathom.

200K in loans IS financial sacrifice.

Persistence. Good for him. Why be critical?

Makes me wonder WHY? What would possibly make 25 years of half your income worth it?

The education provided. The college's reputation. Specific courses or degrees. Somebody in your family went there. You're the first in your family to even go to college.

Again - exactly. It's a choice they are making. Choices have consequences. Small loans make sense for many and carry manageable consequences. Large loans have large consequences.

Small loans will typically not provide a college degree.

My strong opinions come from the 200K student mentioned as the example of the recipients and the many people I've run across over the last few years that seem to believe people shouldn't be held accountable for student loans.

In all seriousness, you might consider running into different people.

Here is an article of a young man that had a little over $200,000 in debt and a bit about his struggles. Looks like he graduated 2 years after he was supposed to but he made it! So many do not.

I bet he's glad for those two extra years now!
