Can I do this? Last minute Star Wars training while life is in the way....

Remodel updates!

This is the kitchen cabinet we took out to make room for a doorway into the office, our temporary path to get into the kitchen (I forgot to take a pic of it still up, oops!)

53549422_10218623748814646_1623158511565275136_n.jpg

Here is where the cabinet was!

53811010_10218623748894648_2392905427982483456_n.jpg

Another angle of where the doorway will be.

53289845_10218623749334659_620007318343385088_n.jpg

Temporary doorway! DH took it all down and I lugged it all out of the house!

53347631_10218623749534664_6153203923319521280_n.jpg

Framed out our old entryway into the kitchen. That will be a solid wall in Mom's living room on the other side of the wall.

53155030_10218623749894673_2637682451769458688_n.jpg

Framed out doorway from her living room side of the wall.

53308987_10218623751534714_2120574436645011456_n.jpg

Took the drywall off of this outside wall so we could put up insulation (our house has none!). But Yuck! We found dryrot!! We contemplated what to do and ultimately decided to go ahead with the remodel as we are trying to get her into her space.

53671934_10218623752574740_8618414305391411200_n.jpg

Insulated that wall.

53698432_10218623752894748_6550834465189396480_n.jpg

Then this was my idea! We built a second wall, next to the first wall. This will allow us to work on the dryrot from the outside, without disturbing Mom's area. Framing up!

53274642_10218623753574765_7964989139303006208_n.jpg

Then we insulated that wall too! She should stay warm!

53314542_10218623795615816_611043528323104768_n.jpg

DH framing a wall in our hallway to close off Mom's area. We actually did this first, before the other work but I got out of order!

53239498_10218623795895823_897705421073022976_n.jpg

Framing.

53274803_10218623796255832_5020036459365662720_n.jpg

Drywall and insulation going up! Insulation is more for a sound barrier.

53526743_10218623815656317_3761830669085310976_n.jpg

and a solid core door into her area, hopefully to help with the sound also.

That's all the pics I have on Facebook so far. We are much farther ahead than this so I will update more when I get the pics onto Facebook!

ETA: Looking at these pics makes my house look so dirty!! Ugh! But hopefully we can get it all back to normal when we get Mom's area done! Please don't judge, lol!

These are before and after floor plans of the remodel. I’ll post them better when I’m back on my desktop. You can see all the erase marks on the after, lol!

Good Grief! I have been so busy I forgot I had this journal! Ok, training update first:

3/14 Thursday scheduled 3 mile run at 14:52

Actual pace:
Mile 1 - 14:10
Mile 2 - 14:25
Mile 3 - 14:38

3/17 Sunday scheduled 6 mile run at 14:52

Actual pace:
Mile 1 - 14:05
Mile 2 - 14:18
Mile 3 - 14:42
Mile 4 - 14:31
Mile 5 - 14:50
Mile 6 - 14:20ish - I had to restart my garmin :(

3/19 Tuesday scheduled 2 mile run at 14:52

Actual pace:
Mile 1 - 14:25
Mile 2 - 14:24

On the remodel, we are done with all the painting! All that is left is trim and putting the wood up on the outside wall. I am running 2 miles after work, then we are going to the hardware store and buying the wood. Then going home and putting her one kitchen cabinet together and mounting it. And putting the ceiling fan/light back up (took down to paint). Probably all we will get done tonight, besides cleaning up from painting (pulling paper off the floors, etc.)

Ok, I just realized the race weekend is in 2 WEEKS! I had it in my head that I still had 3 weeks left! What is wrong with me?? I am too busy, lol! I will post remodel pics probably this weekend. We have to run to Lowes and buy Mom a minifridge and a new faucet for the bathroom. And I have DirecTV scheduled for next weekend to hook up her service!

Remodel update!

This is the backside of a closet in our office. DH took off the drywall and added a plug in from the backside so we wouldn't have to tear up the drywall in Mom's living room.

54383108_10218764624536451_4912318258675187712_n.jpg

This will be the plug in for her kitchen cabinet/coffee maker!

55823773_10218764624736456_1714671766288203776_n.jpg

Adding the wire. DH went into the attic and I fed wire up to him thru the ceiling.

55892561_10218764625416473_5138175766839689216_n.jpg

Electric done! We added 5 plug ins for her!

54524236_10218764625496475_6929317604767039488_n.jpg

Mudding the drywall.

54524742_10218764625896485_5306015710013554688_n.jpg

More mudding going on. I actually did the mudding of all the drywall screws.

55509760_10218764626336496_5280675712204800000_n.jpg

This was a nightmare job for DH! Patching in the old kitchen doorway.

55462302_10218764626536501_4501625213724655616_n.jpg

Then mudding it. We sanded and reapplied mud at least 3 times. He is not happy with the finished product but I think it looks fine!

55489105_10218764627256519_959093212541091840_n.jpg

Painted the inside of her "front door".

55450411_10218764627456524_4368890464917520384_n.jpg

Then I painted the living room side of her bedroom door. That baby gate gets to go when we get all done! She has a cat that my dogs love to torture!

54517989_10218764627736531_7382021777834115072_n.jpg

I missed taking pics of the texture and priming! Oh well, here is the paint. We painted the same gray color as her bedroom. All that wood is waiting to go up on the wall (spoiler - we did that yesterday!).

54518620_10218764628256544_1155103141834784768_n.jpg

Her one kitchen cabinet. She will just have a coffee maker, microwave and a mini fridge. Everything else she can cook in our kitchen.

That's it for now until I take some more pictures. We worked all day yesterday and are almost DONE!!

Training update!

I did my 7 mile run on Saturday!

3/24 Scheduled 7 mile run at LR pace 14:52

Actual pace:
Mile 1 -14:27
Mile 2 - 14:49
Mile 3 - 14:50
Mile 4 - 14:52
Mile 5 - 14:54
Mile 6 - 14:21
Mile 7 - 15:14

That last mile I had to stop and talk to DH during my run as he "lost" me, lol! He had his head down when I ran past him in the truck. I yelled at him a couple of times but he never looked up. So I kept going. Well apparently he didn't ever see me and kept waiting and waiting for me to pass by. Finally he texted me, "Where are you??". I had to stop and dig out my phone to text him back so he could come find me. Then of course when he found me he made me stop and talk to him about what happened lol.

3/25 Scheduled 2 mile run at LR pace 14:52

Actual pace:
Mile 1 - 14:26
Mile 2 - 14:41

I can definitely tell the difference in where I do my running at! The 7 mile run was at the state park, which is HILLY! The shorter runs I do after work at my work and it is FLAT! Those hills about killed me lol. It slowed me down to where I was supposed to be though. I have one last long run tomorrow, 7 miles. It has some HM running in it so we will see how it goes. I plan to run it out at the state park after work. Then it is TAPER time! I don't feel like I have actually done enough training to actually need to taper, lol! But I get it. :)

Ok, adding this training update before I forget and especially because it almost killed me! I think @DopeyBadger forgot when he made me this mini plan that I haven't run at HM pace, like hardly ever?? My main focus the past year had been marathons, which I trained at a MUCH slower pace! I knew I wouldn't be able to hit the actual pace but really surprised myself by coming as close as I did! Plus, HILLS!

3/27 Scheduled 7 mile run at 3 miles LR pace 14:52, 3 miles HM pace 12:08, 1 mile at LR pace 14:52

Actual pace:
Mile 1 - 14:32
Mile 2 - 14:45
Mile 3 - 14:46
Mile 4 - 12:47
Mile 5 - 12:25
Mile 6 - 12:28
Mile 7 - 14:45

I almost quit after mile 4. Then again after mile 5. But I persisted and finished! I am ready for you Star Wars Half!! :)

You're ready! I can't tell you how many times during a progression run I say to myself, "Ok, if you're miserable you have permission to quit after mile 4. Ok, that's over, at least one more mile..." And before you know it, you did it! Great job sticking it out.

Haha, that's exactly what I did! Thanks!

:D

Just trying to balance the running you had done leading into the plan, what you could maximally physically tolerate at this point, and attempting to give you the best possible situation come race day. The 3 miles at HM Tempo comes out to about 36-37 min, whereas a maximal HM Tempo paced workout maxes at 60 min of tempo work. But I didn't think you'd be ready for a maximal HMT in 6 weeks time. So I went with a much shorter roughly 36 min tempo duration as I guessed that would be roughly what you could maximally handle mid-training at this time. Looks like that assumption was close given your description of the run. I won't say you're prepared for a 12:08-12:25 paced SW HM, because the training plan was too short. But you'll be better prepared to handle race day after having gained the benefits from this plan. I know you can do it!

I knew you had a reason, lol! I was just giving you a hard time! Yeah, no way could I run the half at that pace! But I will finish! :)

I’m loving being able to follow along with the remodel!

You are ready for Star Wars!!!!!

Did you talk DH into a Disney Weekend? BTW, Uber or a one way car rental can be cheaper than the DCL bus and you can get to the port earlier so you can get on the ship earlier!

@Bree Thanks! And we are almost done! So many little finishing things! Should be done tonight though, yay! I need to take some pictures, lol. We still haven't decided the logistics of the cruise weekend, lol. I honestly think he would just do whatever I plan! I will keep Uber in mind, thanks!

Small remodel update!

I made DH take a picture of me working so there is proof I actually helped with this whole project!

Here is an older one of DH putting the wood up.

Great news - tonight we will bring in her mini fridge, microwave, attach her bookcase to the wall and we will be DONE!!!
I will take a bunch of pics tonight before we move all her furniture in!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Done! We are done with my mom's in-law-suite! She is all moved in and loves it!

So happy to be done! Now I can relax this week before Star Wars (haha!). We won't start the next phase of the remodel (my master bath or maybe the roof first?) until after my son's wedding in June. A welcome break from working after work every night!

Training update: Yeah, didn't get my 2 mile run in yesterday. :( Sometimes you have to prioritize and do things you don't want to do instead of getting a run in. I don't think it will effect my race. I still have today, Wednesday and a 1 mile run on Saturday to get in. :)

It looks great!! I love the colors and and wood shiplap (or whatever you call it :P) on the walls!

Thank you! It is siding. Like #116 Karr siding to be specific, lol. I think. And what a time I had picking those colors! Eventually I will have a new kitchen with all new cabinets. I ordered a door sample of the color I wanted from the cabinet company, then took the door sample to Home Depot. They matched the color, then we had them lighten them up by certain percentages? DH wants to do the rest of the walls in the house a little lighter but I like it!
