Canadian Buffoon's Back to Front Vacation - Update! 05/18 - Falling Down

I am FINALLY all caught up on your TR.

Ann!!

First off...

:welcome: to the TR!
Thanks for coming over! :)

If I commented on everything I thought was neat/funny/absurd, I'd be here forever so instead I'll just say, wow what a neat/fun/absurd time you had!

But now that you're all
caught up, I expect you
to comment on every word.
Every syllable.

I'm glad you've enjoyed
it so far. :goodvibes

If I have photos to post, I will.

Yay!!

This is DH's mantra.

He's a wise man.

He must be...

He married you.

You squeeze it you buy it.

Is this another version
of "put a ring on it"???

Yes they have. The restaurant that Michelle worked out from high school until she got her "big girl job" after college serves them. Danielle is working there now. Michelle will eat the raw oysters too but Danielle only likes the char-grilled ones. I don't eat either. But I love crawfish and some consider that gross.

Huh!
And... I don't think
I've ever had crawfish,
but would like to try.

I actually have a crawfish
story too!

Good for you, bread only fills you up. You needed more room for the good stuff.

::yes::

You're getting really close. I'm jelly.

About two and a half weeks! Woot!

Silver Falls State Park isn't just one waterfall. it has 10 falls of different types, heights and sizes. Some falls are right by the parking area, but if you are so inclined, there is an easy 7 mile hike that takes you above, around, behind (and even below if you want) all the falls.

Sounds amazing!
It also sounds like I'd
have to make that a
destination as opposed
to Multnomah where I
just stopped for a few
minutes.

Can I put the words easy and hike in the same sentence?

Oh, sure.

Wait... One way???

lantern-press-silver-falls-state-park-oregon-south-falls_a-G-12899046-9664567.jpg

Beautiful!
Is it that all year
round or does it
ebb and wane?

So I’m reading at home and on my phone because 1. you remember that annoying problem where I can’t see your pictures anymore via my work computer

:headache:

Yes, I remember that.
I wish you could see them.
Do you think it's your work
filtering that site?

I’m up early waiting for DW and DD to get ready for dance competition 2 of 3 (it’s Wanna Dance this weekend).

Ah yes.
The early morning dance
competitions.
"We have to be there
by 7am!"
"What time do you actually
dance at?"
"2pm... but Mme wants us
there early just in case!"

Actual dance time... 4pm.

I knew the original Starbucks was in Seattle. I also have a love hate relationship with Starbucks...in that I love to hate it. I think we discussed it before, but I’m not a coffee drinker and I don’t like the idea of paying six bucks for tea I can make at home for 10 cents.

Well, I can't make the
Vanilla Bean Frappaccino
that I like... but, I seldom
have it.

The market looks interesting. I rarely buy flowers though. DW thinks they’re a waste since they just die. But if they were that cheap it would make more sense.

I'd certainly know where
to go when I do!
My mom loves flowers,
so that'd be a good spot
to make her happy. :)

I also think I’ve mentioned before that I’m not a seafood lover. I have to admit to never having any kind of chowder.

Yep. You're that weird
East Coaster that doesn't
like fish.

But I suppose if I ever find myself in Seattle, I might want to give it a go.

Hmm... I can honestly say
that I don't know if you'd
like it or not.
To me it doesn't taste
overly fishy, but... :confused2

I would like to try the fried chicken on that list though.

::yes:: Me too!!

Your campsite looks great. Fun idea to camp out instead of hotels.

It was. :)
I liked it... for a few days.
By day 2-3 I was ready
for a hotel room.

I like the way I did that.
Couple days camping,
then a hotel to clean up
and sleep in a bed.

I’ve been having a hard time with Marvin lately. Pictures on the phone is not ideal for spotting him.

Yeah, I can see that. :(

Alright you asked for it.

Excellent choice for a conjunction

Ah yes no time like the present

So glad the English language only has one form for that

I appreciate the use of contraction here to reduce syllables

i want it all.gif

Like a fish on a rope

Such a fantastic movie. Love the score.

Alright I guess we're talking about you now

I have a few of those. Thanks for bringing them up. Sheesh.

Like a chicken

Finally back to me

I'm really starting to regret taking you literally

Wasn't sure if both m's were on the first syllable or not

But you know what I ment

So am I commenting about the syllables or on top of them? Could really use some specification.

Ev sounds like the nickname of a really hardcore heroine in a film or something

I make his sound a lot

I find it interesting that the letter y is it's own word in a few different languages. I think we should make it a word in English too.

word up.gif

You're right, there should definitely be a sequel

Still making this sound!

Maybe it could mean something like "excuse me but there is a whale sneaking up behind you"

Again, not sure if both l's should be on the first syllable or not

I worked in one of these and sadly there were no nuclear (or otherwise) disasters that resulted in me gaining extraordinary abilities.

Do you regret your request yet?

Let's explore Pike Place Market
shall we?

It's a GREAT place to explore!

I wasn't in a huge rush and
planned to just sashay along
and relax and enjoy.

Good thing... When I've been there, there's no hurrying anywhere. Too many people!

Now, I'm not a coffee drinker,
so maybe I'm wrong, but...
I can't see myself standing
in line just to say I've had a
coffee there.

I AM a coffee drinker and I wouldn't stand in line for this place. But I might here:

https://www.visitseattle.org/partners/starbucks-reserve-roastery-tasting-room/

but the first thing
I noticed when I entered
were the flowers.

They are impressive!

I caught them mid-aria,
before they were told
to cool it and were
put on ice.

I got pretty excited when
I saw this sign.
My Low Back has been
giving me trouble for some
time now and I thought
this place could help.

Does all the sashaying give you time to make up corny Dad Jokes?

See?
I'll stand in line for a
good fish throwing.
Not like those coffee
swilling weirdos.

Back off or I'll breathe on you before I pop my mint.

This guy was pounding the
keys so quickly and frenetically
that it was a blast to watch!
(and listen!)
His technique might have been
a hair on the messy side,
but it was entertaining
none the less.

There always seems to be buskers here. Last time I was up there I saw a great sounding trio of guitar, banjo and spoons.

I got one plain sugar doughnut
and one...
I had to, it sounded too out there...
One maple bacon doughnut.

Holy crap were they good!

Maple-bacon is definitely a PNW thing. Voodoo made that famous here in Portland.

So... Pike Place Chowder just happens
to have the best dish in America.
I was not going to miss out
on this!!!

In all the times I've been there, I've not done it before.

But right in the middle
of the menu I saw
"Make it a sampler!
Customer's choice of 4
(or 8) 5-oz servings of
any chowder."

Probably what I'd have done too. I like lots of different tastes.

(Spoiler alert. I didn't
come close to finishing it all.)

Yeah, I could see that coming.

When I got back home,
it was one of the first things
I would tell people about.

It was that good.

Glowing review! I'll have to make it there next time I venture to Seattle.

VERY lovely!

I've heard of racial profiling. I guess this is Touron profiling, right @Steppesister

LOL!!Well being that our $ is pretty strong right now, they may want to think twice.

I'm two exams down, so I am much closer to sleepy time but the Leafs are in the playoffs so I must wake up for that.

They're doing better
than our Jets. :sad2:

There have been some amazing photo editorials on the downtown eastside, but unfortunately it just keeps getting worse.

:( Sad.

Sigh, my sisters birthday.

I feel bad that she'll
miss seeing you.

:rolleyes1

The flowers are always so pretty but unfortunately its a pain to bring cut flowers across the border. :(

I wouldn't even try.

It's always super fun to go and watch.

:)
So you've seen it?

THE LINES! It always has a huge lineup.

But... totally worth it!

I may have to bear the line and eat some soup.

::yes::

Moseyed!? You're really expanding your walking styles :thumbsup2

I'm a man of many, many talents.
Locomotion is but one of them.

It was only 1,000 miles.

You won't believe this then... down the road from where my mom and stepdad live (about 40 minutes from where you met me), there are gorgeous flower bouquets about that size for $2. Not a typo - TWO DOLLARS!

 :faint:
No way!!!

They are a lovely Mennonite family and she leaves about 6 flower bouquets with a jar for payment at the side of the road every morning all summer long. They are always sold by day's end (often bought by various members of my family )

Nice!

I think I've mentioned that my family was in the restaurant business for 30+ years

::yes::

I spent about 20 of those years wishing I could say that: come in, eat, and get out!

You should've asked me!

Lovely post!

Thanks! :goodvibes

What a neat place. And the sites by the KOA? Gorgeous!

Thanks again! :)

Alright you asked for it.

Indeed I did.
Do your worst!

Always.

What kind of dumb fish
takes bait off a rope?
A fishing line, sure...
But a rope?

I don't know if I want
to eat the idiot of the sea.

Such a fantastic movie. Love the score.

Well, he found new friends,
so I guess he did score.

Alright I guess we're talking about you now

It's my TR.
And believe me...
I'm totally worth talking about.

I have a few of those. Thanks for bringing them up. Sheesh.

I'm not the only one...

Like a chicken

Finally back to me

It can't be all about me.
I need to share.

but just a wee bit.

Okay, that's enough.
Back to me now.

I'm really starting to regret taking you literally

Oh?
I'm rather enjoying it.
Can't wait for the rest
of the update!

Wasn't sure if both m's were on the first syllable or not

No.
I was always taught that
when splitting words,
that you split where there
are double consonants.

But you know what I ment

I mite no wat u mean.

So am I commenting about the syllables or on top of them? Could really use some specification.

Use your best
specificity judgment.

Ev sounds like the nickname of a really hardcore heroine in a film or something

It's also the name of
my ex girlfriend before
I married.
Thanks for bringing her up. Sheesh

I make his sound a lot

Far better than "Huh?"

I find it interesting that the letter y is it's own word in a few different languages. I think we should make it a word in English too.

You're right, there should definitely be a sequel

I don't think my wife
would approve.

Still making this sound!

"Wasssssuuuupppp"

See previous comment.

A sill is better than a sigh.

I worked in one of these and sadly there were no nuclear (or otherwise) disasters that resulted in me gaining extraordinary abilities.

You forgot the spider.
There's always a spider.

Do you regret your request yet?

Kinda the opposite, actually.

It's a GREAT place to explore!

It definitely is!
I'd go again.
I probably will!

Back off or I'll breathe on you before I pop my mint.

I like the smell of coffee.
Especially coffee beans.
But... coffee breath?

Not so much!

There always seems to be buskers here. Last time I was up there I saw a great sounding trio of guitar, banjo and spoons.

Cool!
And... spoons!
Don't see/hear that
too often!

Maple-bacon is definitely a PNW thing. Voodoo made that famous here in Portland.

I liked it!
Thanks for inventing it, PNW.

In all the times I've been there, I've not done it before.

Well, then you should!

Probably what I'd have done too. I like lots of different tastes.

::yes::
I wanted samples of
(almost) everything!

Yeah, I could see that coming.

Yeah... when I got my
tray, I was a bit dismayed
by the amount of food.

I thought the samples
would be smaller.

Glowing review! I'll have to make it there next time I venture to Seattle.

Yes! Definitely!

VERY lovely!

Thanks, Liesa! :goodvibes

They're doing better
than our Jets. :sad2:

Yea, this is true but we have suffered A LONG time.

Yea, I remember a few years back driving through the Hastings area and seeing a guy I went to high school. It was a sobering moment. I am very blessed.

I feel bad that she'll
miss seeing you.

:rolleyes1

Maybe I can make a dummie and have a weekend at bernie's kind of thing going on.

:)
So you've seen it?

A few times.

But... totally worth it!

I want some chowder now.

Yea, this is true but we have suffered A LONG time.

Uh, huh.

Stanley Cup wins:
Toronto - 13
Winnipeg - 0

Yea, I remember a few years back driving through the Hastings area and seeing a guy I went to high school. It was a sobering moment. I am very blessed.

Holy cow.
Yeah, I bet it was!! :scared:

Maybe I can make a dummie and have a weekend at bernie's kind of thing going on.

Oh, sure.
That'll work.
What could go wrong?

A few times.

Cool!

I want some chowder now.

Well, go!
It's just next door!

It definitely is!
I'd go again.
I probably will!

There's a lot to see and do in Seattle!

That's true.
While I didn't feel
particularly crowded,
there were plenty

There always are being the #1 or 2 touron spots in the city.

While I am not a coffee

pretty interesting.

You should go!

I'll try to find someone to go with. Not fun going alone.

Of course.
It's not like sauntering
where you really don't
have time for much else.

HUH? I very frequently stop and smell the roses so to speak.

And... that got me thinking...

I like the smell of coffee.
Especially coffee beans.
But... coffee breath?

Not so much!

But... is it worse than garlic breath?

::yes::
I wanted samples of
(almost) everything!

Of course!

Yeah... when I got my
tray, I was a bit dismayed
by the amount of food.

I thought the samples
would be smaller.

I'd have thought so too!! I mean, how can they think one person can eat all of that!?

There's a lot to see and do in Seattle!

So I'm discovering!

There always are being the #1 or 2 touron spots in the city.

Ah.
So, by your definition,
I am a touron.

ah well.
At least I have fun
with it.

I'll try to find someone to go with. Not fun going alone.

I'll go with you!
Unless you get there
before I get back.

Then again, you'd probably
prefer to go with someone
whom you could share the
coffee experience with.

HUH? I very frequently stop and smell the roses so to speak.

;)

But... is it worse than garlic breath?

Hmm....
Actually... I don't think so.

I'd have thought so too!! I mean, how can they think one person can eat all of that!?

Not this one person, anyways.
I know a few people that could
manage it no problem.
It would've been better to share.

How about we visit the Roastery
and split some chowder?

Indeed I did.
Do your worst!

See previous comment.

A sill is better than a sigh.

You forgot the spider.

Kinda the opposite, actually.
Okay I’m throwing in the towel. But then I’ve always been a quitter.

Ah.
So, by your definition,
I am a touron.

ah well.
At least I have fun
with it.

But... aren't we all at one time or another? I mean, you can't go to Seattle, especially on your first time, and NOT go to see the Needle and Pikes. You just don't. Next time, you'll be less of one because you can (and should) do other stuff. As another reader was saying on your thread a bit ago, Multnomah is for Tourists, and Silver Falls are very impressive and less people-y. If you head this way again, they are VERY worth the hiking.

I'll go with you!
Unless you get there
before I get back.

Then again, you'd probably
prefer to go with someone
whom you could share the
coffee experience with.

Deal!

Nah, I'm sure there are other things to eat and drink there. I know a LOT of non-coffee drinkers.

Hmm....
Actually... I don't think so.

I had this one Spanish teacher in high school. Coffee and cigs. I never raised my hand cuz he always thought he needed to answer your questions close-like. :crazy2:

Not this one person, anyways.
I know a few people that could
manage it no problem.
It would've been better to share.

How about we visit the Roastery
and split some chowder?

Sounds like a solid plan!

As usual, playing catch up on the DIS!

Being the only foreigner
in the threesome, it fell
to me to find a suitable
locale.
I suggested The Keg.

Who knew they had the Keg in the US??? I certainly didn't!! I'm glad to hear if I'm craving a taste of home I might find that there lol. I live within a block of a Keg and it is indeed quite tasty.

So all those people
are nuts whereas what
I have done for ice cream
is perfectly normal.

Perfectly normal and I'd be right there with ya for ice cream. Chowder maybe not....but I get it.

While I would probably order
the sampler again,
the Seafood Bisque was
the champion, narrowly edging
out the Salmon Chowder.

I was looking at the menu and that seafood bisque would be my choice. I think I'd get a whole bowl of that.

I was particularly pleased with
that last shot.
I'd taken shots of ducks at a
couple of spots along the way
and hadn't been overly
pleased with the results.

Ducks in a row!! LOVE it!! I finally know where the expression comes from. I don't think I've honestly seen them do that before!

But... aren't we all at one time or another? I mean, you can't go to Seattle, especially on your first time, and NOT go to see the Needle and Pikes. You just don't. As another reader was saying on your thread a bit ago, Multnomah is for Tourists, and Silver Falls are very impressive and less people-y. If you head this way again, they are VERY worth the hiking.

I've got Silver Falls on my list now.
It definitely sounds like a destination.

Usually I only have a few minutes
(or maybe a few hours) on my drives
to stop for something.
This one sounds like a full day at least.

Woot!

Nah, I'm sure there are other things to eat and drink there. I know a LOT of non-coffee drinkers.

I actually don't care if there
isn't anything for me.
I'm fine just looking.
I did that in Halifax.
DW and I went to a
200 year old brewery.
(well, almost est. 1820)
Between the two of us,
we managed to drink
a small glass of beer.
Like... maybe 3/4 cup.

I had this one Spanish teacher in high school. Coffee and cigs. I never raised my hand cuz he always thought he needed to answer your questions close-like. :crazy2:

Gross!
Cigarette smell...
Just... no.

Sounds like a solid plan!

I'm actually brewing up (see what I did there?)
thoughts on a new road trip.
I'd like to maybe do Silver Falls,
chowder at Pike Place,
the Starbucks roastery...
then head down the coast
to visit Alison.
