Canadian Buffoon's Hi Low Vacation - South Central Musings

You're outing me???

I do watch TV.
But it's pretty much just
what Ruby wants to watch.

I watch the occasional
(as in maybe 1/year)
football game.
And I watch my Indy races.

But that's about it, lately.

Nice! DISMeets are fun!

::yes::

That sounds delicious.... and fattening.

Just looking at it I gained 2lbs.

Depends on what it is!

You be the judge.

How could you NOT?! If you ever get to Seattle, make sure to visit the Chihuly Museum there near the Space Needle.

I intend to!
Bucket list item now!

Did your car freshen up nicely?

Sort of.
Is it supposed to smell like
cheap cigars, booze and cheap perfume?

I'd imagine that was a spendy ride.

I wouldn't know.
It didn't really appeal,
so I didn't enquire.
See previous comments, re: Whistler.

Those don't look like mermaids to me....

What do they look like?

She should have found her own entertainment.

There were Chippendales...

I can imagine you did.

Hey now!

... which begs the question...

Yes?

But! Can you judge a pod by its pea?

No. This is a scientific
impossibility.
Proved by Mendel in 1876.

I think it might take more than a lap sitting to call it "love". Just a hunch.

Lust?

You basically ate breakfasts for free then.

::yes::

Ponzi, thank you for all the work you put into this lovely TR. You put a lot of effort into making it fun for all of us :) Looking forward to your next one!

Thanks for reading, Liesa! :goodvibes

You're outing me???

I was just surprised. Most people watch at least some. Except us. (No TV)

Just looking at it I gained 2lbs.

I'd feel rotten the rest of the day. UGH!

Sort of.
Is it supposed to smell like
cheap cigars, booze and cheap perfume?

I suppose, if that's your thang. Your reviews as an Uber driver, might not be so great if you ever do that, though.

What do they look like?

Pole dancers?

There were Chippendales...

I think she prefers shopping by the amount she does on these trips. ??

How do you know what snot tastes like?

No. This is a scientific
impossibility.
Proved by Mendel in 1876.

Correct!!

Lust works.

The downtown zip line costs $20 for the short line where you're sitting down, lasts 30 seconds and $40 for the longer line where your body is suspended like superman and goes for 60 seconds. Add $5 to each if you want to do it when the light show is going on. Doesn't seem too high to me considering the price of food. Also, I've never done it so don't have anything to compare it to.

Thanks for that Carrie! :)

Loved the updates...

...so when is the TR on Disneyland? :-)

So.... just out of curiosity.
How long did you spend watching that?

probably about 7 seconds.

the penguin one is one of my all time faves...I can sit there and watch it for a while.

Hi! Just in time!

You're welcome!

Then you're doing it wrong!

(Or maybe you're not.... 250 mall stores... <shudder>)

Oh, I did that one once while Jim was attending something for work. I came out of the outlet mall with two big bags so heavy I had to drag them on the ground. :rotfl2:

Busy!
How are you?

Doing pretty good. Actually the stress level is way less now that I'm not the manager

 Always the way!

Your kids are amazing.
Have I ever told you that?

Amazingly crazy. I think you have said so. Thank you.

Nice test run! That Harley store gas a really cool decor for a cycle shop.
Fun video! I watched a few times before I realized the dog wasn't going to do anything new. :lmao:

How about we finish this puppy off?

Yay! That just means the next one is coming sooner!

I convinced Darcy that to truly have
Winnipeg's finest burger,
he had to have a VJ Special.
(Burger with chili, shredded lettuce, diced onions,
sliced tomato, yellow mustard, dill-pickle spears
and mayo on a white bun... drool...)

Well, OK, not a big fan of mustard, and Chili makes it really messy, but I suppose if you have chili mustard is a good thing, so perhaps I would try it that way. I would prefer it without the chili and mustard.

Reasonably sure that I just went down
and grabbed some yogurt or a muffin
or something equally dull for breakfast.

Who knows!

Riveting.

Hmmm... how about this.
There was a large poisonous snake
slithering through the lobby.
People were screaming
and running in panic.
I calmly walked up to the snake
and began to rhythmically move my hands,
effectively hypnotizing it.
Once the snake was swaying in synch
to my hand gestures,
I quickly grabbed it just behind the head,
avoiding the sharp fangs.
Moments later I had fileted the animal
and was serving up fricasseed snake
to the now cheering guests.

Sure. Let's go with that.

OK. Mister Walter Mitty.....

We giddily skipped over
to the restaurant.

That's roughly when we discovered
that it was closed for renovations.

o_O

Well.... poop.

We made the long walk back to the strip.
So... guess where we ate lunch! Guess!!!

Well bummer. I would have liked to hear about this chocolate shop. I have no idea because I only know the fancy pants restaurants there and not the walk up QS kind of places!

And every hour on the hour,
from six pm to one am,
all the casino lights are
temporarily extinguished,
and then relit with a show
on the underside of the canopy.

It's definitely worth seeing.

Yes ::yes:: I have happened to have been there during this time and they played some pretty cool tunes as well!

If you'd like to get a bird's eye view of the action.
You can take a zip-line down the full length
of the attraction.

No thank you!

It seemed to encapsulate
what Vegas is all about.
Minus the gambling of course.
Perhaps that's just a given.

I prefer to gamble in Vegas, besides the food that's why we go there!

I felt kinda guilty.
You can see it written all over my face, right?

Right?

Hello?

Actually, the two ladies were very nice.
If they'd been crude or lewd,
I probably wouldn't have felt comfortable
and not have done that.
Heck, in my teens, I wouldn't have done it!
But in my advancing years,
I tend not to give a hoot so much anymore.

It suits you well. I wonder how they would have felt if I walked up and wanted a picture with them? Fran would never do it, but I might!

Photographic proof:

You know that photos in a casino are illegal.....

So when a chance to try a Gordon Ramsay
restaurant came up....

i.e. Gordon Ramsay Steak

... we jumped at the idea.
And then we saw the prices.

A bowl of soup alone is $17.

I would have still gone in. I need to put one of his restaurants on my radar for Las Vegas since we'll never get to his restaurant in West Hollywood.

Hate to tell you this, but... no food porn.
I decided to go with traditional
English pub fare and went for the
Yorkshire Ale Batter Fish & Chips.
Ruby had a burger and fries.

Everything was very good.
I'd eat there again.

I'm totally craving Fish and Chips at this point....I know a great restaurant here and really want to go there now!

I know! Peas! Who'd've guessed!
But it was actually really tasty!

Just goes to show,
you can't judge a pea by its pod.

Well if they are English peas in season, I have learned that they are good. Frozen peas....may as well be Brussel Sprouts.

We passed this store with
a rather large statue of Lady Liberty.

Made completely out of
Strawberry Twizzlers.

Because... why not?

Anything goes in Vegas!

Apparently, this wasn't a regular Blackjack table.
In Blackjack switch, you must play two hands.
(At $10 per hand... so effectively a $20 table.)
The difference being, you are dealt four cards.
Two per hand. You are allowed (if you wish)
to switch the cards to give yourself
a better chance to win.

That just sounds weird.

I played something like 12-15 hands.

I wonder. Should I have kept going?

It took about 30 minutes to play those hands.
And I didn't lose a single hand.

Not one.

I didn't win them all;
a few I pushed.

But I left the table $100 richer
than when I sat down.

Good job. We have been known to play all night and if you play the right odds, you can't help but win.

Still.... I've never had a streak like that.
But, I keep hearing that a good player
knows when to walk away.

If you walk away ahead, you're a good player.

And we had a nice meal at Mon Ami Gabi.
The food is good, but the best part
is being able to sit outside.
You can either look slightly down at
the people going by on the sidewalk,
(Great people watching... and you see
all kinds in Vegas!)
or you can watch the Bellagio fountains.
(Yes there are palm trees in the way.
So what?)

Well that sounds nice!

And with that,
our Vegas trip drew to a close

Glad you had a good time.

I will be back later to comment on the other update.

I can understand that.

A few years ago, I was managing (along with 3 others) our shop.
HR met with me and said
"We don't need 4 managers for 12 people (no kidding!),
we want to put you back on the floor. With the same pay."

Same pay? Without the headaches? Sure!

Amazingly crazy. I think you have said so. Thank you.

:)

Nice test run! That Harley store gas a really cool decor for a cycle shop.

I was really surprised by it.
It's just a small town...
and they have this!

Fun video! I watched a few times before I realized the dog wasn't going to do anything new. :lmao:

Yay! That just means the next one is coming sooner!

::yes::
Just starting to get organized.

Well, OK, not a big fan of mustard, and Chili makes it really messy,

That's what makes it good.

but I suppose if you have chili mustard is a good thing, so perhaps I would try it that way. I would prefer it without the chili and mustard.

You can do that, of course.
But then I can't guarantee
the best burger in town.

Riveting.

That's how I keep you reading.

OK. Mister Walter Mitty.....

I own a copy of the movie
with Ben Stiller.
Love that movie.

Well bummer. I would have liked to hear about this chocolate shop. I have no idea because I only know the fancy pants restaurants there and not the walk up QS kind of places!

I have eaten there before.
On a solo trip.

It was tasty!
And chocolates and desserts for miles.

Yes ::yes:: I have happened to have been there during this time and they played some pretty cool tunes as well!

::yes::
I don't specifically remember all the tunes
but Freebird was one, I think.

No thank you!

That's okay.
I have no desire to do it.
I'll keep you company on the ground.

And the shows.

But... yes.

It suits you well. I wonder how they would have felt if I walked up and wanted a picture with them? Fran would never do it, but I might!

Of course they would.
Money's money.
I think they weren't allowed to ask,
but they "suggested" $20.

They were very polite and friendly.

You know that photos in a casino are illegal.....

Whoops!

I would have still gone in. I need to put one of his restaurants on my radar for Las Vegas since we'll never get to his restaurant in West Hollywood.

Funny. I was thinking of you
when I wrote that.
"I bet Alison would still go."

But we weren't feeling it.
At least, not at that price.

And I think you know how Ruby feels
about fancy places.

I suspect she'd balk just for that.

So, let's you (and Fran too!) and me go. Okay?

I'm totally craving Fish and Chips at this point....I know a great restaurant here and really want to go there now!

So did you?

Well if they are English peas in season, I have learned that they are good. Frozen peas....may as well be Brussel Sprouts.

Agh!!! You said the word!!!

Anything goes in Vegas!

And frequently does.

That just sounds weird.

It feels like you have an advantage that way...

But I'm pretty sure the odds of winning
are even more in the house's favour.

Or if not... they still have that statistical edge,
and now you're playing more hands.
And the house is raking in more money.

Good job. We have been known to play all night and if you play the right odds, you can't help but win.

If you walk away ahead, you're a good player.

I'd rather be a rich one!

Well that sounds nice!

I think it's the only place in Vegas
that we've eaten at twice.

Other than the hotel buffet.

Glad you had a good time.

I will be back later to comment on the other update.

Okay! :)

Couple things I forgot to mention: DH and I went to Gordon Ramsey Steak at Paris when it was the French restaurant. Most I've ever paid at a restaurant. DH still says it's the best place he's ever been to! He loved the foie gras. I loved the ambiance. We got to sit in one of the half booths on the second floor. Just such an experience!
I've always wanted to try Mon Ami Gaby. Almost went to the one in Bethesda, MD but the wait was 45 minutes.
Paris is one of our favorite hotels, we're going to stay there someday!

Mermaids downtown is closed. That along with the Las Vegas Club have been torn down to build a new hotel. I hope it's not too expensive. I don't want downtown to become another strip.

So, I've still been dizzy. I start vestibular therapy on Monday. A week from Monday I go for an MRI to look at my ears. Four weeks still Vegas, I need to feel better!

Getting there! I just gathered up the photos yesterday.
Now have to edit and upload them to.....

I guess photobucket for now.
Eventually... maybe Smugmug? Dunno.

Then I can get to writing.

Just so I stay consistent with this thread...

I suspect now that he's got his name on it,
it's completely different.
Nice that you went
(and even more so that DH
obviously enjoyed it so much!)

I've always wanted to try Mon Ami Gaby. Almost went to the one in Bethesda, MD but the wait was 45 minutes.

I had no idea there was more than just the one!

Paris is one of our favorite hotels, we're going to stay there someday!

I stayed there and it was very affordable.
I think I got a deal from "smartervegas" dot com.
Something like... $40/night maybe?
Then did the credit card trick
and got upgraded to one of their much better rooms.

Mermaids downtown is closed. That along with the Las Vegas Club have been torn down to build a new hotel.

They closed it?????? What the heck! How dare they!!!

I hope it's not too expensive. I don't want downtown to become another strip.

No. I hope not.
It has its own charm, right?

So, I've still been dizzy. I start vestibular therapy on Monday. A week from Monday I go for an MRI to look at my ears. Four weeks still Vegas, I need to feel better!

Oh.... I didn't know you were still dizzy!
Hoping the MRI provides some answers
and the therapy provides some relief!

What is this sorcery your describe in vagu

I posted this earlier:
When you check in, there's two things you need to do.
1. BE POLITE!
Don't demand. Don't tell. Simply ask.
I use the phrase "If you happen to have a nice room, that would be really appreciated."

2. Fold up a $20 and hand it hidden underneath the credit card you're using to check in.

In Vegas, it almost always works.
It worked wonders for us in Hawaii on our first visit.
