Car Hire - Priceline !

I am considering making a bid for car hire with Priceline.

It appears that they tend to use Alamo - which is OK for me.

Does anyone know if the 'all-inclusive' rate includes for SLI extend protection to $1 miilion.

it;s not guaranteed, but I've heard that if you get Alamo then it is included. Fiona used them in February and got all Inclusive with Alamo and there was nothing else to pay.

Thank you for taking the time to e-mail us regarding making a car hire reservation in Florida.

Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) is NOT included in your accepted Priceline car hire request. This cover, which can only be added when picking up your car, provides the renter and additional authorized drivers with up to $1,000,000 in protection. This protection covers the renters liability to third parties, resulting from an car accident in a rental vehicle to the maximum protection of $1,000,000 for each occurrence.

When you hire a car through Priceline, the reservation includes the following coverage:

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW): CDW protects the renter from financial responsibility if the rental cars should be damaged in any way, excluding theft or attempted theft, even if it is the renter's fault. There is a mandatory non-waivable excess which varies by country.

Theft Protection: This coverage is in respect of theft or attempted
theft of the vehicle and any additional charges that the car hire
company may incur. The renter may be responsible for a non-waivable excess which varies by country.

Third party /Liability coverage: As required by law, all rates include a minimum third party liability. Third party coverage offers indemnity in respect of third party injuries and property damage. Liability amounts vary by country.

Visa, Mastercard and American Express may offer coverage in some countries, subject to the terms of your individual credit card, for rentals made through priceline as they would for rentals made directly through the car hire company. In addition, personal motor insurance policies may also provide coverage.

If neither your credit card nor personal policy provide coverage, please check your car hire company's Web site or speak to the representative at the rental counter for information about the types of coverage and other optional coverage that may be available. You will be subject to additional charges if you select to purchase optional coverage at the rental counter.

Remember, it is your responsibility to check with any personal motor insurance policy or credit card provider to determine what coverage you have.

Summary -

At a cost of approx $14 per day for SLI on top of the target priceline bid it is better value to hire a car from companies such as sunchase with an all-inclusive package (Alamo Gold) !!

Hi Tyke -

it's basically a gamble. Priceline do not guarantee that SLI is included, and they will not tell you the company you will use -that's the whole point, you are agreeing to use any company.

HOWEVER - if you read the priceline info boards, they will tell you that Alamo is the only company to ever come up, and that if you get Alamo then they do include the SLI - BUT priceline WILL NOT guarantee this - in fact they won't even confirm that it might happen - their whole philosophy is that you are buying blind, so for them to confirm a company would defeat their object.
