Does anyone out there know if there is a casino close to Vero Beach? I know Florida has Indian Casinos......just don't know if there are any nearby.
Thanks!

I don't believe there are any casinos nearby...

....But there are gambling cruises that leave out of Cocoa. There may be some even closer.

Thanks, Beth.........just looking for more reasons to try this resort! :teeth:

I heard that the gambling ships are fun. We have never tried them because we spend enough when we are home in Atlantic City (lol).
My friend goes on them and she said that they have constant shuttle boats dropping off new passangers and picking up those who have had enough. So I think that is neat, I always thought that you were picked up at one time and dropped off again at the end. Of course we would be the die hards that would be there from start to finish, just as long as they had blackjack!

I think the nearest Indian casinos are the Seminole casinos in Hollywood, Florida (south of Ft. Lauderdale). They have two there, including a Hard Rock.

Thanks for the great replies! Anybody know where to catch a gamling cruise near Vero? It would be fun to go to the beach AND get to go play poker, too!

Jim,

Also, aren't the Indian Casinos limited by Florida law in what they can offer? Just slot machines etc. No table games allowed such as Blackjack, Craps, Poker?

Or has that changed over the years?

They ARE limited, but you'd have to ask a greater gaming expert than I to get an accurate answer. They have slots, but not Vegas-style slots. Some of them also have table games, but they differ from Vegas games as well.

In the last elections, voters in Broward County (north of Miami -- the county Ft. Lauderdale is in) approved slots in existing parimutual locations (horse and dog tracks, jai alai frontons, etc.). The Legislature, for the second year, is agonizing over how to effectively kill that idea without overthrowing the "will of the people." I think their result will be "Okay, you can have it, but we're going to tax it out of existance." Those sites are not up and running until the Legislature finishes its work.

Why not just stop in Shreveport or Bossier City for a few days on the way there or back? NW Louisiana has five casinos.
