Cruising in September vs. January

Here's my two cents. We're from Wisconsin and mostly have cruised out of Florida in December - January. And we have enjoyed pretty good weather while on the cruises except this past January which was terrible. I attribute that to EL Nino. Also, we have experienced a number of cold days while at WDW (both pre and post cruise) during those months. The best weather we've had at WDW and on a cruise was in late October - early November.

Now as far as hurricanes, the season seems to have been extended well into November and it officially lasts until the end of the month. This year in particular with a La Nina expected to develop could be very bad due to the extreme heat already present in the waters of the Gulf and Southern Atlantic. Next year who knows, but we plan to sail again in the late fall of 2025. That said, we always get travel insurance for the cruise, and we fly to MCO a day or more before it and leave a day to more after it. We're retired so we can do that. And it does relieve us from worrying whether we'll be delayed by weather coming or going. Also, the day the ships come in MCO is hell on earth as most everybody from the cruises are there that day to fly home. Probably the same the day of the cruise too.
