Some of this, all of it or none of it could be announced this weekend. That seems to be the trend no one knows for sure what will be announced.

Do we know if people will be able to record the panels this year? I know last D23 some panels allowed to record and some didn't. I'm particularly interested in parks and resorts and animation this year.

All I'm asking for is DHS news. Something to look forward to after shuttering half the park....please! I think we'll get some but I bet it'll be a lot of Shanghai, DLR, and Avatar.

Would love to see some Star Wars: Rogue One news as well!

Thanks for starting this thread - I was hoping for a good spot to watch for news.

I'm in the camp betting that all we hear about DHS is "We'll be doing a major renovation/expansion involving Star Wars and Pixar" - eg nothing we haven't already been assuming, and no details.

Do we think they'll give us some update/timetable on the expansions of TSM and Soarin and the new Frozen/Norway attractions?

I've heard a lot about cameras not being allowed so we will have to wait and see on that. I'm sure people will sneak them in.

Well TSMM and soarin are supposed to be done early next year. The problem with the soarin expansion is once the new theater opens another will go down for the digital upgrades. So we probably won't see all three theaters at work until mid to late 2016. Frozen in Norway is supposed to open May 1st, 2016.

I wonder how he gets his percentages.

The comment about big plans likely for Star Wars since Disney knows how much of a juggernaut the franchise is was interesting. Disney could also decide that Star Wars doesn't need that much since it is so popular. I hope that they reveal something about this one for sure.

I have not heard the Monstropolis idea before. Depending on how it is done, it could be a perfect solution for the Osborne Lights. I'm not sure Monstropolis could be iconic enough on it's own. If they decided to gut Muppet Vision they could probably put in a small Monster's Inc ride there with the entrance being from the SoA. They could also put it or something else in the open area in front of where LMA currently is, or in the building at the end of San Francisco Street where the Frozen Sing-a-Long was for a while last year.

I'm pretty sure this is like the 4th thread that is covering D23, I think that speaks volumes to the excitement! People are looking forward to this event, and it should be one heck of a ride. We know we're getting at least info on Avatar and Shanghai. That should be great. The Shanghai models and information were not widely made available for a great period of time at the media event, and much of the commentary was not in English.

It's funny how much they told us, but we couldn't understand or appreciate it because of the language barrier.

D23 should fix that.

Of course Avatar we know almost nothing.

It should be great! Let's hope we get a bonus with DHS info.

It will be interesting to see if Disney sticks with their current MO of just giving big picture statements and waiting until just before opening to reveal details, or if they decide that more info up front will save them from overt criticism over the next few years.

In other words, HS is going to have tumble weeds when I visit in December. And as we all know, we are years away from any type of update, even if it is phased as I often read.

I would think Disney would want to go ahead and manage expectations by announcing what is coming (at least for a phase 1) with a ETA. Many people don't follow the news like we do, so it will actually be a surprise to them when they walk into HS and half the rides are closed or missing. Blasting the plans at D23, which will in turn get play across all media, is a strong way to mitigate the damage of a operating a half-open HS for the next few years.

That said, I suspect they won't announce the name change yet. After all, why rename the park when they have nothing to show for it. If Hollywood Studios is going out the door, let that be the name by which the park sucks for the next few years. Maybe they will announce what the name will eventually become, but even that... seems unlikely to me. I would assume they want no association between what HS is going to become and what HS is currently. They'll want to save the re-christening for something big, like the phase 1 opening.

I also doubt, as many others, that we will see much Star Wars info. A pixar land can draw upon existing rides to fill out a majority of it's space. Star Wars doesn't have that benefit. The pace at which imagineering moves would suggest to me they won't have much ready to show anytime real soon.

I'd love to be wrong, but with how little info is floating around about projects that have been under construction for years (Avatar), it's hard to believe we will get any sort of in depth look at things that are 4-6 years away.

Touringplans idea that one park could have The Empire and one host The Rebels is clever, but I don't see that happening. It would cost too much for them to develop two totally different sets of rides, shops, and attractions. Disney has always been the type of company to develop one marquee E-ticket ride and then roll it out with ever so slight variations at all their parks. That would have been like Universal opening a different Harry Potter experience in Cali, when the obvious goal was not to compete with USF, but rather to extend what was working so well in Florida to California.

But the monstropolis idea doesn't compute with me...

That franchise doesn't push product and monsters U - while I liked it and loved the first - is not a hat hanger for Pixar.

Jeez...the parks are about moving merchandise first and foremost...this is set in stone until a major cultural shift. We aren't there yet.

I think the Disney Studios presentation is the most restrictive in regards of cameras. Especially now that Disney is being super secretive about the new Star Wars films. We should get at least the highlights of most of the other panels and presentations.

As far as the Monstropolis rumor goes... I don't know. If you talk about moving merchandise, Toy Story and Cars are the obvious choices.

Yes especially because they have showed previews of upcoming movies in the past at the studios presentations and Disney doesn't like those things getting out ahead of time.
