DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Back for the 2nd post of the day. Good news is I got offered the job and they wanted me to start August 19. I told then I couldn't start until after retirement, so I'll start up after labor day. Food factory production starting out at $21/ hour followed by whatever else I train for plus shift pay if I get moved (and I'll get moved). It's not the most intellectually stimulating job, but I won't be on call or have to drive 500 miles a week.

Bad news is that FIL and DW still have not returned. In texting with DW, they have no idea what it is, but send him home and hope someone figures it out. So, if your pee is as black as coffee, apparently, there is neither an emergency nor cause to be concerned. Maybe just walk it off or rub some dirt in it. :sad1:

Sorry to hear that.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Good news about the job.
Sorry about FIL.

Well, I was wrong in figuring that work wouldn't keep me off the boards for a while. But on the up side, they've decided that it's time for everyone to head back into the office with a whole lot of safety protocols added on top to just get into the building. Working from home was certainly nice while it lasted, but I got'a tell ya' - I'm gonn'a miss what was far and away the single best working environment I've have in the last forty years.

Talk about a mixed reality...
Congrats on the new simplified working opportunity.
And may there be a good outcome for your FIL and may someone figure out what's up quickly.

It was definitely a cigar kinda night. I lit the fire and enjoyed it with the music and bourbon.

The dx for FIL was to take him off his coumadin. More than 20 years ago, before DW and I were married, he had a brain aneurysm erupt, lots of surgeries, specialists, and in the end, his blood was the consistency of maple syrup. Thus, the coumadin. Now, the doctors concluded that since he retired from swing shifts and slept on a normal schedule, his blood returned to normal. Thus, the coumadin was the cause of the bleeding. Medicine that kept him alive was the the medicine killing him. He will have some more tests to confirm, but that is where we are for now.
Another good reminder to enjoy the moment. Tomorrow is no promise to anyone.

Thanks. I think I could handle working from home if I had work to do. Glad you enjoyed it while it lasted. Good luck.

Thanks. Can you send those two for a house call?

Nice to hear they found the problem. just a little scary for us pill popping junkies...

Hey, Gents! Happy Wednesday, and the middle of the week. Things at the office are going well, for the most part. The paralegal I'm supposed to be shadowing has pretty much decided that outside of me helping her draft deeds and power of attorney docs, that's all she's going to show me, so another paralegal has taken it upon herself to show me how to do all the other stuff that we're supposed to do, like enter title information and how to file/register properties. I'm annoyed that it has to be this way, because I'm not getting to work on files that will eventually be mine, but at least I'm finally getting to learn something other than drafting documents. Didn't have that meeting yesterday with the boss, she was just too busy, but I'll have it at some point. Otherwise things are going pretty good. Have a good day, gents!

I wouldn't know...it will be a very long one for me after vacation. Why is coming back from vacation inversely proportional to how much you enjoyed vacation?

Maybe this...

Had that same feeling many a time, and I believe it's because Murphy's Law sucks.

Morning all. FIL is in the hospital in Nashville peeing blood, but the cause is still unknown. He goes to Nashville as he has some blood thing our local hospital can't treat. My DW drove him, and they waited 10 hours in the ER before being seen, he was admitted, but no rooms available.

With all the COVID cases on the decline, I wondered how that was possible. Well, it turns out there is no more room sharing with COVID policy. So, the hospital is 100% full at 50% it's usual capacity. That helps me to make sense of some of these #s the media is reporting.

Sorry to hear, prayers sent.

Glad to hear the hurricane missed you. We had thr remnants of one of those hurricane rip off our roof in KY. Before that, I never thought about the weather impacting those outside the coastlines.

I guess it still hasn't sunk in. And maybe it won't until I get that first retirement check.

By the time it would have gotten to me, it would have been a tropical storm. The last hurricane we had here on the Cape was Bob in '91, which I wasn't here for. Those hurricanes that do hit the U.S. and come up our direction are usually tropical storms by the time they hit us, but that's not to say they don't still pack a punch. We had a tree fall through the roof back in 2007 because of tropical storm Noel. But we've been lucky the last few years.

😆

:thumbsup2

Not a bad idea.

I like to know what to expect, and it shows initiative on my part. Too bad it didn't happen yesterday as she was busy, but it'll happen.

Actually, I thought they would... but have a 10 mile (or similar) exclusion zone where it was illegal to enter.
We do that all the time for drones or fireworks or parajumps, etc. (air, not water, but the idea's the same.)

Ok, I understand that, but like you said, have a 10 mile exclusion zone. I was surprised at how close they were.

'Morning all...
I'm still trying to get re-use to having to get up earlier to be able to start work later.

That storm stayed on the cost down here so we saw none of it which is good. Still waiting to hear about any possible damage to our place down on the waters edge though, but we'll see how that shakes out. It made more of a mess in NE-NC and the Mid-Atlantic. Hope all y'all up that way are good.

And that is a quick answer (so long as it is the correct answer).
My MIL was on that stuff for years as well, and it also caused her unnecessary problems from time to time. May the issue actually be that strait forward and may he heal up quickly.

It's the folks in the trenches that do the work.
Glad you came across someone to help show you the ropes.
Oh, and congrats on the new vocation.
Glad you're getting to do something different.

That looks dangerously close to a Packers Jersey as well.....
It's possible. I looked up the jersey from the 70s and it doesn't match. in 70 and 71 (I'm sure other years as well, but only ones I looked up) #44 was Donny Anderson, so it's possible. My cousin never did have the best taste, so maybe so. ;-)

I think he was playing youth football at the time and that was his jersey. Dunno...I've slept since then.

Sorry to hear that. I was thinking a lot of companies might permanently shift to the work-from-home model. Certainly a lot less overheard that way.

Let's hope that was the right solution!

I'm sure they're all busy and want to get their own work done. But good on the other paralegal who's helping you out.

That ended up being a really vicious, nasty storm. Worse than we were expecting. We had 4 different tornadoes touch down in Delaware. Lots of trees down and houses damaged. I was in the office till 8 p.m. coordinating repairs and then went home to a house without power and had to get the generator up and running in order to keep the food cold and the sump pump working. We'd bought it after Hurricane Sandy left an inch of water in our basement and hadn't used it since. But I was glad we had it last night.

Good to have. We bought a new one this year...larger than what we had. Good thing is the new house has a transfer switch so I can plug it in directly and has enough to power a couple rooms as well as the water pump. May be investing in a whole house generator next year.

On a different note, I was thinking about the conversation about splashdown and private boats....
Even if they hadn't announced it, there are enough boats out in the ocean fishing and those may have simply been the ones who were able to see it coming down. Even with it being announced "off the coast" is a large area. The only other thing I can think of is they saw the boat going out of port and followed.

The track moved further north to miss up completely. Was chatting with another of the dads in Connecticut and they'be been without power for 20 hours or so.

Afternoon gents from a Sunny Blighty. Lots of bricky stuff today. Back out on the road as Ponzie and Darcy have been so disciplined, so 2 x 5k and 1 x 10k since Saturday.

Wow. Scary stuff. Look after yourself mate, you promised me a beer if I ever hit DE. And it would be an awful shame to miss out on that. Wasting free beer is a sin.

Congrats bud, that's a nice gig. I must admit, I've never worked out my hourly. Whatever it is, I certainly wouldn't pay it.
Seem like that they have a handle on what your FIL needs, all the best to him and the Lady Airgoofy.
Thanks. Can you send those two for a house call?
So Lisa could make a cup of tea and a sandwich while you "attend" to Jen twice? Well played brother.
Working from home was certainly nice while it lasted, but I got'a tell ya'
I was expecting a double entendre in here some reason. Sorry about having to go back. It's gonna happen to us all sooner or later I guess. I think I'm good for just one day a week in the office until at least January.
Certainly a lot less overheard that way.
Between me and the Lady K, its been about a 10,000 pay rise due to the lack of train fare, lunch, after work jollies etc. That pays for Disney.
I think he was playing youth football at the time and that was his jersey. Dunno...I've slept since then.
I didn't look it up, just went with the colours and the yellow bars on the sleeve. Little bit before my time, so I'll defer to your undoubtedly superior knowledge mate.

Have a great day chaps

Morning all. In the midst of all the happenings from yesterday, I had perhaps the last video conference meeting with the job I'm retiring from. A couple of bosses were on as well, and the two people replacing me going forward were on there. Just a reminder how glad I am to escape the madness of denying me a raise only to pay two staff salary and benefits. Government work at its finest.

Nice to hear they found the problem. just a little scary for us pill popping junkies...

::yes:: One of the reasons he was originally referred to Vanderbilt Hospital 20+ years ago was that his condition was so rare. Hopefully, you're just an average pill popper.

Sure, go wait by your mailbox...

I fell for that the last time. Ok, I'm waiting ....

I didn't know you had a place on the coast. I could have parked the camper there years ago.

Glad to hear you survived the storm. I remember bailing water up the stairs when the power went out at my parents house. You don't miss a sump pump until it stops working.

As for the office working at home, that's a real cost saver for business. I'm guessing the reason they aren't doing it is because they own or have signed leases in their current space?

Sadly, in government, we've had people sitting at home for 5 months now not doing at work. Well, they email each other and skype, but none of the essential job functions. At what point do people realize all these job positions aren't needed in both the private and public sector?
