DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Morning folks.

Up with the kid to accompany her to the orthodontist. Not quite sure why (she’s 23) other than moral support.

He said to say Hi, I told him nobody here remembered him. ;)
Accurate.
Well, it's now Monday, and we all know what that means:
One more day off! Woot!
my garage now smells like peppermint. We have mice and chipmunks that get in, and they have decided to make a meal out of the huge bag of birdseed we have in there. So my DFiL gave my DW peppermint extract and told her to spread it around. So now my garage has a nice peppermint smell to it.
Curious if it’ll work. Must admit to having my doubts.

And another Monday morning. And, it's cold and raining. Ugh. Had bloodwork this AM to test cholesterol and get my flu shot. Dr recommended adding daily baby aspirin to my daily statin. I guess that means I'm officially, medically old.

I'm going to admit that I don't understand this because it doesn't make sense. If you keep your retirement insurance, but elect to not take the other insurance, you're not double dipping on insurance, or misusing tax payer dollars. That doesn't make sense to me. You're getting a retirement check, but also getting a paycheck, wouldn't that be considered misuse of tax payer dollars? I get what they're trying to do, prevent double dipping, but not electing to take insurance from Agency Y because you have retirement insurance doesn't equal double dipping to me. Maybe it's because it's still too early and the caffeine hasn't had time to permeate throughout my body yet. I don't know...not trying to be difficult or argumentative, just doesn't make sense to me. Have a good day.

It's not the lack of caffeine. It doesn't make sense. It's the government's way to pretend they solved the problem. Go after low level retired employees wanting to work for $100s a month of insurance premiums and ignore the top ones who retired/rehired at $250K a year salaries. It's like the tax laws. The ones who have the most money to pay the most in taxes have the resources, lawyers, and loopholes to get out of paying taxes.

Payment?

Looks like our school board has voted to begin hybrid learning procedures. It's going to take the better part of a month to transition over--students will be live in class 2 days a week. We'll see how this goes!

Top O the Mornin Dads! If there is such a thing on a Monday! Sounds like COVID is messing with us again, hybrid classes, possible lockdowns in Dan's case and just overall increases in most areas. Good football weekend for my teams and definitely a fall weather weekend but going back into the 80's this week. DS will be coming home for a few days this weekend which will be a nice change of pace for us and as of now plans in place to go visit DD over Halloween weekend to celebrate her birthday. Stay safe and lets get through the Monday.

hey howdy hi. When I was 14-17, I could name almost every team's starting QB across the NFL. And this is pre-internet (for me), so it came from watching pre-game on Sunday, and reading the paper. Today, I don't know if I know if there are 30 or 32 NFL teams, and it would be a struggle for me to name them all. Once I got kicked out of the fantasy football league for "Not respecting the integrity of the game" - I realized why I don't like the NFL. You have to spend you whole life following it, in order to follow it. It's not Sunday from 11-6 anymore, plus Monday night. I mean, there are games Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, and there are scores / updates on ESPN Every day, even if there wasn't a game the day before.

Being a sports fan is too much work. You have to be a political science major, in addition to a fan, and, if you can't tell me how many yards whomever threw for, then, you're not a real fan.

At least with soccer, I can turn on TV, watch the ball go back/forth for 2 hours, and move on with my life. I could do that with NFL, maybe, but the NFL makes it seem, to ME, if I"m not an NFL fan more than anything, that they don't want me.

At least with Walt Disney World, they're willing to take some of my money, even if they want it all, they don't say all or nothing.

I hope I can buy an AP. It would be my first ever...

Moral support, that's gotta be it....that and your credit card.

One more day off! Woot!

>:(:stir: :teeth:

Curious if it’ll work. Must admit to having my doubts.

So do I, but we've also deployed a few ultrasonic devices that are supposed to work as well. So far my dog hasn't been affected by it and neither have anyone in the family.

Hope your cholesterol is good.

I didn't think it made sense. What a crock of...well, you know. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow even though you know it's stupid.

My nephew and nieces are hybrid and it seems to work...to a point.

Hay y'all...
Not too much out of the ordinary going on down this way. However, For the first time (and likely the only time), my home state is allowing everyone to vote early, so we took advantage of that this weekend.

Now if I could just mute all the adverts...

oh, except that my garage now smells like peppermint
Never heard of that particular remedy. You'll have to report back on how it works

Mine's older and if we didn't still make appointments, he likely wouldn't ever seek any kind of medical attention (preventative or otherwise).
He'll age off our insurance next year though so dealing with that may prove interesting.

Oh that reminds me, there are 67 days until Christmas.
What that means to me is that depression should be setting in any time now.
Oh joy...

Dr recommended adding daily baby aspirin to my daily statin. I guess that means I'm officially, medically old.
you were officially "Old" a while back when marketers no longer cared what you thought.
Now you just "Medically Old".
Welcome to the club.

And may that go a well as possible for y'all.
My SIL and one of my nieces both work for the schools down here. They're doing a mixture at this point and success varies fairly considerable from one local to another.

Stay safe and lets get through the Monday.
Working on it.

Once I got kicked out of the fantasy football league for "Not respecting the integrity of the game"
Whoa...
Not sure how you go about disrespecting any type of imaginary gaming situation.
Seems just a smidgen over reactionary...

I didn't set my lineup on week 10 after going 1-9. It was "giving away a win" at that point - I was told. PLUS, I would log in at 11:00 on Sunday to set my lineup for the week. Well, when games happen Thursday and Saturday, I missed the players playing. Because I lost my interest in the sport.

Andy-way, they renamed the league after me. Which is way better than playing in the league.

That and the knees.
Nope. Well... sorta. She paid for it ($200 for imaging), but we'll claim it on our insurance.

Does that affect Julie? Or is that only for older kids?
Moral support, that's gotta be it....that and your credit card.
See above. But... yeah probably moral support more than anything.

Just vote again. Every time you see an ad.

She actually already aged out of insurance, but because she's still in school, she's still covered. Next year she won't be in school... but she'll be a teacher and they have their own insurance, so she'll be set.

Morning, Gents! Well, Monday's come and gone and nothing major happened. A friend at work said he was going to do No Shave November and wanted to know if I'd go along with him. Not sure if it's a thing or not, but I said, "Sure! Now I have to let the wife know I'm planning on transforming into Grizzly Adams by the end of November." Actually, within about 2 weeks I'll have a decent beard, so it'll be interesting to see how I look by the end of November. Came home and told the wife after work and she's totally cool with it...though I suspect she'll not kiss me as much by the end. We'll see. Alright, guys, have a good day and we'll chat throughout.

TTFN

Neither have I, but my DFiL is filled with stuff like this. I'll let you know if it works.

you were officially "Old" a while back when marketers no longer cared what you thought.
Now you just "Medically Old".
Welcome to the club.

I'm now 50, so I'll be at that age soon....gotta live it up while I can. 9 o'clock bedtime it is! Woohoo! :rockband: Party time!

I'd love to have a Saturday morning/early afternoon Zoom chat. Anyone have the paid Zoom chat that'll go past 45 minutes?

See above. But... yeah probably moral support more than anything.

:thumbsup2

Morning All,

It's Taco Tuesday but no tacos for us tonight. I've been told we are having pork loin.

about 4 hours worth of video calls today, good times.

I do, that's what we use on Saturday night. We did try a late Saturday afternoon once but not many people were available. One of the reasons we stay later in the evening is so that we don't really cut into family time.

I can make a room available if there are guys here that want to chat, just not sure if I could jump on.

I feel bad about that because I said I'd love to have a chat in the morning/afternoon but couldn't because I was off Cape that day. I'd love to try it again at some point. I even thought of paying for a Zoom membership/package, but can't justify it.

Sounds like you just need to hang out with less demanding friends! I couldn't name half the players on most MLB teams, but I still enjoy sitting down to watch a baseball game.

My nephew and nieces are hybrid and it seems to work...to a point.

It all depends on how willing and able people are to follow the rules.

Evergreen post for all time.

Fingers crossed that nobody will get lazy about following protocols.

Does that affect Julie? Or is that only for older kids?

It affects Julie, too. She'll be moving over to teach from her classroom. So I might be going between the office and home to help juggle kids and their schedules. She's excited about not having to teach from the house, though.

"Sure! Now I have to let the wife know I'm planning on transforming into Grizzly Adams by the end of November."

Let us know how that goes! And how comfortable the couch is.

I don't recall exactly when that was(do remember seeing it), but I had something going on that day, so I wasn't able. I get not wanting to cut into family time, but it cuts into sleep time for me. ;)

Not planning on doing no shave November, but if I did, it's not pretty...then again nobody ever accused me of being pretty.

Morning all. Good news and bad news. Good news is that my cholesterol is great. All my numbers are low, including the the good cholesterol because I sit on my butt too much. :lmao:

Bad news is that it seems that I lost the job. So, as the retirement board determines they were a participating agency, they will require the agency to pay into the retirement system for me. However, as I've already retired, I can't get any more money from retirement. And, since the politicians mismanaged the funds so poorly over the previous 2 governors (16 years), the agency would have to pay 70% of my salary into the retirement account, that I would never receive. Hey, I may be good, but I'd have to work a lot of OT to bill that much extra. And, there isn't a signatory or even appeals process in the statement, which probably means I could hire a lawyer to sue based on a due process claim. It's not worth it though.

I had an interview for a sales position yesterday. It's not something I've down in my career, but the reason I went to the factory was to get out of the public sector. I thought the video interview went well enough to get a call back.

He said to say Hi, I told him nobody here remembered him. ;)

00who? :lmao:

My daughter's funny school COVID actions were for driver' ed. The school allowed video classes at first, then the AB schedule, but they weren't allowed to drive the car due to COVID. But, she will get the credit for the insurance discount. :rolleyes1 :sad2:

Gotta admit, losing a great job has me down right now. Still, I'll have a lot of time on my hands if you want to chat.

Thanks for that bit of good news. Is there a welcoming gift?

That and the knees.

And thanks for that reminder as well.

I've done a few of those in the past. I've always had some type of beard/ goatee for the past 20 years since I've been married. DW asked me to shave it off once. I did, and after I walked out of the bathroom, she said grow it back and never shave it off again. :lmao:

I don't recall exactly when that was(do remember seeing it), but I had something going on that day, so I wasn't able. I get not wanting to cut into family time, but it cuts into sleep time for me. ;)

I don't recall seeing that beard when we met up in Atlanta. Or, seeing you stand sideways.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Nothing of significance to report just taking things day by day doing our best. Finished 2021 budgets so that's a load off until we get to 2021 as this is the most unrealistic budget in the 20 years I've worked for this company. Rob - don't forget to check in here regular during the holidays. Have a good one guys and stay safe!

Andy-way, they renamed the league after me. Which is way better than playing in the league.
I believe that counts as a win then.

Pretty sure that I’ve heard someone - of some level of importance - explain that having things named after you is the only true measure of success.

Just vote again. Every time you see an ad.
Brilliant!

Well, except for the small inconvenience of it being just slightly illegal.

Other than that though…

She actually already aged out of insurance, but because she's still in school, she's still covered. Next year she won't be in school... but she'll be a teacher and they have their own insurance, so she'll be set.
good for her.

At this point, my young’en’s mode of employment doesn’t include insurance.

That might be a bit of an issue.

she's totally cool with it...though I suspect she'll not kiss me as much by the end.
By the end - your whiskers should be long enough to be somewhat soft.

It’s the couple of stubbly weeks up front where you’re more likely to be banished.

I'm now 50, so I'll be at that age soon....
50? Congrats! You already don’t matter.

Marketers don’t care one iota about you anymore.

Well, the ones that hawk Depends, Viagra and reverse mortgages do, but I don’t see that as much of a win personally.

It's Taco Tuesday but no tacos for us tonight. I've been told we are having pork loin.
Pork loin is right good when served on tortillas.

We’re doing exactly that this evening.

It all depends on how willing and able people are to follow the rules.

Oh crap, we're doomed, aren't we?
Hummmm…
Follow rules?...
Be considerate of others?...

We are talking about humans here, right?

Yeah, I’m not liking those odds.

Bad news is that it seems that I lost the job.
That’s a bad situation all around.
Sorry to hear it.

Thanks for that bit of good news. Is there a welcoming gift?
Oh, sure.
Increased amounts of pain, aaaaannnd…
You even get THAT for FREE!

Frequency and severity will be increasing steadily from here on out, but your tolerance levels will determine the actual impact of this new gift, so you have that going for you.

Still, I'll have a lot of time on my hands if you want to chat.
don't forget to check in here regular during the holidays.
Thanks for the support guys, but I do have a tendency to just shut down as we start rolling into the season. I’ll see what I can do about trying to prevent that.

Being a Dad is a lot of work. BUT - so is being a DisDad.

I started on the DIS (1), then, I joined FB (2), then, I started running, and found DisDad fitness page (3). THEN, I convinced my wife we should get a small DVC contract. and there's a DisDad DVC fb page (4). THEN, I found out that our dates for January overlap with the DisDad Club Convention 9 dates, and that the convention group has it's on FB page (5), and its own website (6). PLUS - Skype participation and YouTube Rum Rambling discussion. (7).

It's a lot. It's fun, but, it's a lot...
