DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Morning, Gents! Well, Monday's come and gone and nothing major happened. A friend at work said he was going to do No Shave November and wanted to know if I'd go along with him. Not sure if it's a thing or not, but I said, "Sure! Now I have to let the wife know I'm planning on transforming into Grizzly Adams by the end of November." Actually, within about 2 weeks I'll have a decent beard, so it'll be interesting to see how I look by the end of November. Came home and told the wife after work and she's totally cool with it...though I suspect she'll not kiss me as much by the end. We'll see. Alright, guys, have a good day and we'll chat throughout.
Before and after photos?
It's Taco Tuesday but no tacos for us tonight. I've been told we are having pork loin.
I'd consider that a win, actually.
It all depends on how willing and able people are to follow the rules.

Oh crap, we're doomed, aren't we?
Yes. Yes we are.
It affects Julie, too. She'll be moving over to teach from her classroom. So I might be going between the office and home to help juggle kids and their schedules. She's excited about not having to teach from the house, though.
I bet she's happy to be teaching from school. She must have more supplies there, too?
Not planning on doing no shave November, but if I did, it's not pretty...then again nobody ever accused me of being pretty.
Gotta tell ya... I kinda like the beard on ya.

Don't let that go to your head, now.
Bad news is that it seems that I lost the job. So, as the retirement board determines they were a participating agency, they will require the agency to pay into the retirement system for me. However, as I've already retired, I can't get any more money from retirement. And, since the politicians mismanaged the funds so poorly over the previous 2 governors (16 years), the agency would have to pay 70% of my salary into the retirement account, that I would never receive. Hey, I may be good, but I'd have to work a lot of OT to bill that much extra. And, there isn't a signatory or even appeals process in the statement, which probably means I could hire a lawyer to sue based on a due process claim. It's not worth it though.
None of that sounds all that wonderful. :(
And thanks for that reminder as well.
Any time!!!
Pretty sure that I’ve heard someone - of some level of importance - explain that having things named after you is the only true measure of success.
Important people who've had stuff named after them say that.
Brilliant!

Well, except for the small inconvenience of it being just slightly illegal.

Other than that though…
Perfect! Then that'll put you on the same footing as the people you're voting for!
At this point, my young’en’s mode of employment doesn’t include insurance.

That might be a bit of an issue.
Just a smidge.
50? Congrats! You already don’t matter.
:lmao:
Thanks for the support guys, but I do have a tendency to just shut down as we start rolling into the season. I’ll see what I can do about trying to prevent that.
Why don't you just post on here every day with a "I'm still here" post or something? We'll be happy to keep you company.
Being a Dad is a lot of work. BUT - so is being a DisDad.

I started on the DIS (1), then, I joined FB (2), then, I started running, and found DisDad fitness page (3). THEN, I convinced my wife we should get a small DVC contract. and there's a DisDad DVC fb page (4). THEN, I found out that our dates for January overlap with the DisDad Club Convention 9 dates, and that the convention group has it's on FB page (5), and its own website (6). PLUS - Skype participation and YouTube Rum Rambling discussion. (7).

It's a lot. It's fun, but, it's a lot...
I'm exhausted just reading that. I'm on FB too, but never interact... and often don't even read the new posts. I just don't have the time nor the desire to get that mired down.

Important people who've had stuff named after them say that.
"Important" people who are addicted to themselves to the point where they obsessively seek out and crave finding ways to have stuff named after them say that.

Perfect! Then that'll put you on the same footing as the people you're voting for!
Great!
Only problem remaining...
There are at least fifteen distinct levels of "Justice" down this way.
I only rate around level 9 or 10.

Lord help the folks who don't even rate that much.

Why don't you just post on here every day with a "I'm still here" post or something? We'll be happy to keep you company.
It's a thought.
I just have to fight the tendency to think of myself as an outsider invading the "In Crowd's" party.

(it's precisely why I almost never comment in the FB group)

Morning, Gents! Well, we made it to Wednesday and that means two more days to go, three if you read this before the day starts. My DW is taking my DMiL to the hospital this morning for surgery on her heart, so prayers if you can guys, thanks. Because my of this, I get to take my DD to school this morning...this should be fun. This little girl is just like my DW: She's tough to get going in the morning. Nothing major to report at work, except that I'm beginning to think that my supervisor isn't actually leaving at the end of the week. I was in his office a lot yesterday working on a project, and he hasn't started cleaning out his things yet. He also keeps talking like he's going to be here long term. I suspect he may have said he was leaving to get more money out of the company...he would be leaving right before inventory, so that would be a smart move, if he wanted try for more money. Also, he won't say where he's going...I suspect a super duper uber super secret government mission....we'll have to wait and see. I'm going to keep and eye out for any clues. :magnify: We shall wait and see. Outside that, nothing major to report. Have a good day, Gents, and we'll chat later.

Sounds like you just need to hang out with less demanding friends! I couldn't name half the players on most MLB teams, but I still enjoy sitting down to watch a baseball game.

I'm one of those fans that come around when my team's in the playoffs...and even then maybe not.

It all depends on how willing and able people are to follow the rules.

Oh crap, we're doomed, aren't we?

We are doomed, yes.

Fingers crossed that nobody will get lazy about following protocols.

Having your fingers crossed is better than holding your breath.

Let us know how that goes! And how comfortable the couch is.

I certainly will...and luckily our couch is one of those sleeper sofas, so if I'm banned to the couch then I'm good to go.

I don't recall exactly when that was(do remember seeing it), but I had something going on that day, so I wasn't able. I get not wanting to cut into family time, but it cuts into sleep time for me. ;)

For me it's the sleep thing. I'm awake by 4:30-5:00 am every day, so by 9:00 pm I'm asleep. I'd love to Zoom with everyone though.

Not planning on doing no shave November, but if I did, it's not pretty...then again nobody ever accused me of being pretty.

Looking good, Doc! :thumbsup2

Morning all. Good news and bad news. Good news is that my cholesterol is great. All my numbers are low, including the the good cholesterol because I sit on my butt too much. :lmao:

Good news about the cholesterol! That's awesome!

And, there isn't a signatory or even appeals process in the statement, which probably means I could hire a lawyer to sue based on a due process claim. It's not worth it though.

That sucks, man, sorry to hear. Man, that just stinks.

I had an interview for a sales position yesterday. It's not something I've down in my career, but the reason I went to the factory was to get out of the public sector. I thought the video interview went well enough to get a call back.

Hope you move on to the next stage in the interview process.

My daughter's funny school COVID actions were for driver' ed. The school allowed video classes at first, then the AB schedule, but they weren't allowed to drive the car due to COVID. But, she will get the credit for the insurance discount. :rolleyes1 :sad2:

As long as she gets credit for that insurance discount.

I've done a few of those in the past. I've always had some type of beard/ goatee for the past 20 years since I've been married. DW asked me to shave it off once. I did, and after I walked out of the bathroom, she said grow it back and never shave it off again. :lmao:

:rotfl2:

I don't recall seeing that beard when we met up in Atlanta. Or, seeing you stand sideways.

Maybe in his part of the world everything is sideways.

By the end - your whiskers should be long enough to be somewhat soft.

It’s the couple of stubbly weeks up front where you’re more likely to be banished.

I've grown beards for stage productions before, but they've always been kept trimmed, so this will definitely be interesting.

50? Congrats! You already don’t matter.

Marketers don’t care one iota about you anymore.

Well, the ones that hawk Depends, Viagra and reverse mortgages do, but I don’t see that as much of a win personally.

Haven't started receiving calls to sell me Depends, Viagra or reverse mortgages yet, but I'm well versed on hanging up the phone on sale calls.

Thanks for the support guys, but I do have a tendency to just shut down as we start rolling into the season. I’ll see what I can do about trying to prevent that.

I missed something earlier, but if you need to chat, dude, we're here.

Hoping for the best for your MIL and good luck to you on the school thing.

Morning, all.
Snowed yesterday/last night and there's a pretty good (couple inches?) cover on the ground now. 40/60 if it stays til spring or melts.

"Important" people who are addicted to themselves to the point where they obsessively seek out and crave finding ways to have stuff named after them say that.
I think they should name something after me. Like a porta potty. "The pkondz memorial crapper"
Has a nice ring to it. And you can sit on that ring, too.

Um... Rob? You know you're more of an insider around here than some of us, myself included, right? I still feel like a "Johnny come lately" to your (and others) more established self.
(it's precisely why I almost never comment in the FB group)
I completely understand that. I don't do FB very much, but when I do, I see posts from the group. Occasionally I see something that I think "I should say something"... but then think "No one knows me here and I'll just be intruding."
My DW is taking my DMiL to the hospital this morning for surgery on her heart, so prayers if you can guys, thanks.
I hope everything goes well. Please keep us posted.

Happy Wednesday. Tonight is my last night at the sauce factory. I've earned 1 PTO day and am calling in tomorrow. I am so looking forward to it.

On the job front, I saw on Indeed website that the job I turned down 3 weeks ago re-posted for the same position. I don't see it as a long term option, but it's a job. I can still use it to count towards my clinical license, so I emailed the director and let them know I was interested. Tik...Tik... Tik...

Hummmm…
Follow rules?...
Be considerate of others?...

We are talking about humans here, right?

It depends on who's making the rules. Never expose them to light, water, or feed after midnight might be good ideas though.

Yeah, I’m not liking those odds.

Never tell me the odds.

I've been invading others' parties for years. That doesn't bother me - it's the drama. Once that is too much, then it is time to move on.

Positive thoughts for the MIL

Hey guys, when I left off, you may remember I was headed out of town for the weekend with a couple buddies. I’ve been home a couple days getting ready to go back to work for a couple weeks.
The weekend went well, except the weatherman lied; the wind shifted onshore and it was foggy at my friends house. So the trail I wanted to do was a bust. But since we were on a peninsula, we drove about an hour to the other (leeward) side and luckily it wasn’t foggy, just cloudy. We did a shorter hike to a place called Tickle Cove that has a cool sea arch. Pictures below as promised. The rest of the weekend was spent eating and drinking, so you know, pretty good.

Cool pics Jeff, nice spot. But we really want to see the pictures of the shenanigans.
Do we want another Thanksgiving thread incident? :rotfl2:

I didn't get around to quoting the pages I missed but had a quick scan through.

@CapeCodTenor wishing your MIL the best

@AirGoofy sorry things did not work out on the job front, I hope something better comes along for you.

@pkondz thankfully none of the white stuff here yet. We've actually had a fairly mild fall, temps today were still around 16C. It hasn't stopped the leaves falling from my trees though.

Morning, Gents! Kind of a long post, but not a complaint this morning. I know, right? Kind of strange. :teeth: Almost there (stretches hand out to Friday)! Nothing major's happening at work, so that's good. Oh! I finally found out that my supervisor is NOT leaving. We had a talk yesterday afternoon about that. I told him I had heard rumors that he wasn't leaving, and he confirmed it. Apparently they offered him more money and a promotion to Manager if he'd stay. I'm sure the fact that annual inventory is right around the corner, and he's the supervisor in charge of the stockroom, had something to do with it. So good for him, and me since he's the been instrumental in helping me keep a job. Other than that nothing major's happening at work. The mother-in-law is doing well, so thanks for the prayers. In the process of putting in the stint, her arm, I think her left, went numb and they can't figure out why. They want to keep her in the hospital until next week when they replace one her valves, which she doesn't want to do, but really has no choice. So it'll be a lot of heading over to my in-laws to check in on my DFiL and walk their dog. So continued prayers and good vibes appreciated. Update on the peppermint and ultrasonic death ray in the garage: It apparently didn't work. My wife found more droppings. I wasn't 100% sold on the idea, but my DFiL swore by it, so I gave it a try. Now I'll move on to more permanent means of getting rid of them. :stir:. Taking a half-day today to go get my breaks fixed, not looking forward to that bill, but it needs to get done. Well that's it for me. Have a good day, gents, and we'll chat later.

Well, that could be he doesn't have much to clean out?

I thought about that.

Ah. Maybe you're right. Guess you'll find out.

The question has been answered: He's not leaving...for now.

Now that's wise pre-planning.

Nice! It's been hovering around 0C here for several days with more in the forecast. Not ready for this yet.

You can have it. I have too many snow pictures already! I want sandy beaches and green plants.

Morning all. And it's back to the retired life for me. Made some more job applications. Of course, DW can't stop spending money, so I'll have to get something soon. I just wish it could be something of value instead of single serving ranch dipping sauce containers. Ugh.

Continued prayers from MiL. Good news on the job for you. Hopefully, that will bring even more stability.

Morning all.

Busy morning so far. Visit to the dentist for an old school cleaning because they aren't allowed to use the sonic, water based tools. Two video meetings for the rest of the morning and watching updates as a number of schools are in lockdown because of somebody barricading themselves in a house.

Hope you all have a great Thursday!

I had an interview for a sales position yesterday. It's not something I've down in my career, but the reason I went to the factory was to get out of the public sector. I thought the video interview went well enough to get a call back.

Keep swinging away, you'll connect on one of these pitches.

Thanks for the support guys, but I do have a tendency to just shut down as we start rolling into the season. I’ll see what I can do about trying to prevent that.

You know tendencies can be broken, right?

Count me among those that feels the place is better with your contributions and company.

I bet she's happy to be teaching from school. She must have more supplies there, too?

Absolutely. And she can talk to her fellow 4th grade team in person, make better relationships with the kids, etc. Everyone is sick of Zoom at this point.
