Well, I promised to do a report of my dialysis at WDW because Sue (Moderator of this board) and everyone else was so helpful with my planning.
I choose not to go to the dialysis unit in Celebration because I wanted to stay on my T/TH/SAT afternoon schedule (Big mistake).
I choose to go to a Davita unit in Orlando (30 minutes from AKL).
I choose to use a private car for transportation. AKL arranged for Trio to pick me up each day. They were wonderful. Arrived on time, came to the door of the lodge to pick me up. Opened the doors, carried my bags, escorted me into the dialysis unit. Car was a cadillac with leather interior. I felt special! It also gave my husband 4 hours to go to the parks without me dragging him down.
The unit staff was great and the treatment went well. BUT, scheduling was a problem. I had called 8 months before and found out that this unit ran a third shift and the last patient went on a 3:30pm. I request 3:00pm on T and Th (more like my home schedule) and 8am on Saturday because we were to leave for the airport at 2:30pm. My schedule was not confirmed until Wed. (3 days before we departed WV for Florida)
When I arrived on Tuesday, I asked to change the Saturday time. I was told to ask again on Thurs. When I was leaving the nurse said see you thursday at 6am. I said no it will be 2pm again. She said NO, you were supposed to be here at 6am each day and I do not know why you were so late today. We
are not runnning a third shift this week and we can not afford to pay staff to stay with just you. I told her I was sorry but I already have a tour schedule Thursday morning and would not get there until 1:30pm. She was very rude and said "well, just come when you can" I asked her to look up the schedule their social worker sent my social worker and she said "yes, I know you were supposed to be here at 2pm, but we changed the schedule today!"
On thursday, I showed up at 1:30pm and they only ran me 1 1/2 hours instead of 3 1/2. They said we are closing at 3:30pm. What???? Does Davita not care about their patients? I was out of town on vacation. I have insurance and am charged 3 times more than patients without insurance.
I have been a nurse for 30 years and have never encountered this type of patient care. I know about red tape, budgets, staffing etc but what happened to the "customer comes first, the customer is always right" Let alone quality of care or nurses who are patient advocates.
Well, my vacation was greata and I still love WDW. I am tired and must go back to work at 5am tomorrow.
