Dinner show suggestions

I'm trying to choose between the Hoop-Dee-Do Revue and the Spirit of Aloha show for a different dinner experience on our next trip. The travel group is 2 adults and 11 and 8 year old girls. We are staying at the GF villas and love the food at O'Hana, so I was leaning towards Spirit of Aloha, but haven't been to HDDR in about 30 years so would love to see it again and see if my kids like it as much as I did. Any recommendations or suggestions? Doing both isn't really an option on a short trip.

Hoop Dee Doo Revue. I hadn't gone since my daughter's were younger. Well, fortunate enough to take granddaughter (age 12-at the time). She loved it. We went in August, 2018. And because, she enjoyed it so much, it was her requested place to eat in August, 2019 - which we also did!! With the guest participation the show is always different.

Yep, another Hoop de Doo recommendation here as well. Such a fun, silly, high energy show with lots of audience interaction and goofy jokes kids will love.

I prefer the show at HDDR, but prefer the food at SOA. IMHO, you really can't go wrong with either. One nice thing about going to SOA from VGF is you can walk there. It's a lovely walk and would make for a nice evening, IMHO. VGF to Ft. W isn't terribly convenient.

Can't go wrong with tha HOOP! Luau would be easier to get to because its just a walk over, but with the Minnie Vans, they'll drive you straight to Pioneer Hall, or you can take the monorail to MK and the boat to FW. Either way, its worth the trip!

Another vote for HDDR. We've stayed at Poly a few times and still bypass SoA for HDDR since most say it has much better food and a more cohesive show. Easy and fun boat ride from GF to FW too.

How long does the trip take? I assume you'd take the boat to MK then switch to the WL/FW boat then walk to Pioneer Hall?

I would allow an hour from MK just in case you watch the ferry pull out as you walk up. vert short walk from boat dock at the campground to show. if you have extra time there used to be a park like playground to spend time near the show

I would go with Hoop De Do as well. On our next trip I add it penciled in but the 10 year old who lives on YouTube saw the show from Spirit Of Aloha and since we are staying at the Poly. Oh well I pretty much let them choose every meal (with the exception of one lunch at 70's and one dinner at Boma)

This is a tough call both are really fun experiences. Based on staying at GF I would chose Spirit of Aloha since its right next door. Getting to Hoop Dee Doo can be time consuming if you are not willing to do a Mini Van there and back.

This is the perfect explanation: "more cohesive" So many people, including myself, prefer HDDR over SoA and though there's no lack of talent in the luau show, the HDDR show is definitely more cohesive!

Good point and my husband said that he'd rather walk over to the poly for the 8:15 show and be able to walk home afterward rather than deal with transportation home. We're "trying" to cut back on our MinnieVan use this trip after somewhat excessive use last trip ;) - it's just so convenient and more enjoyable!

With all the right connections the boat ride takes around 25 minutes however like a previous poster I err on the side of caution and give a full hour for "just in case" moments:).

Since your DH prefers the walk to Poly here's a quick tip. Try to sit close to the doors and leave quickly if you'd like to stop at Tambu Lounge ot Trader Sam's for a lapu lapu or similar; they fill up fast after SoA.

    Have fun!!

I would definitely pick HDDR over the Aloha show.
Personally, I think the food is much better and enjoy the show more. It is longer to get there than just walking, but for us, worth the trip.

I have been to both shows. I usually tell people to go to the luau only if you are unlikely to ever go to Hawaii and do the real thing. That said, I would recommend the HDDR. I think the quality and quantity of food is similar for both. I like being served family style and choosing portion or the food I like. Give a slight edge to HDDR for the entertainment.
