Well, another season has passed and the attendance figures are in for California Adventure. And that can me only one thing
.
DISCOUNTS A GO GO !!!!!
Southern California residents can now get into either Disneyland or California Adventure for the childrens price of $33 dollars. Proof of residency in the proper ZIP Codes is required (a drivers license or a utility bill) and there is a limit of 5 tickets per purchase. The tickets are single day, one park only (no hopping). This promotion runs from now until June 19th. Children still pay full price, but check again on that one real soon.
The park is also offering a 2 Day unlimited park hopper for $91. The twist here is that means youre paying an EXTRA $5 for the opportunity to flee, er, hop from DCA to Disneyland (the single day $43 ticket doesnt allow hopping). This deal is being described as a limited time offer and will run through mid-March. What that really means is the response to this one will be judged to the response to the 2 Day, $6 add-on, no hopping deal from the fall.
Another set of discounted tickets will be available directly from Disney, the Stores and some hotels. Its the basic One Day Free deal: a 2 Day park hopper becomes a 3 Day, 3 becomes 4, etc. This one will last through March as well, but expect another series of discount schemes to be announced then.
And before people start yes, everyone in Anaheim realizes that this is all rather silly and the only solution is for a single day, two park ticket. The people involved with the place know that California Adventure can not support a separate ticket and would be hard pressed even if it had free general admission. They know that having a roller coaster as background for two college football analysts will not make thousands of Americans leap up from their couches and scream lets go there!!. They know the only real solution is a massive building campaign for the park that will cost more than the park did in the first place just to get it up to even a half-day park value. With a years experience at DCA and more than that from Disney/MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom the dynamics are pretty clear.
But Corporate money demands and corporate egos are still blocking any rational solution to the problems of California Adventure. Expect a long string of discounts, ticketing gimmicks and visits by Dharma and Greg until thinking heads are put in charge of the mess.
