Disney Fairy Tale Weddings summer season on Freeform

S
Some of the couples mentioned things that Disney surprised them with, for example, the red lion (I believe?) at the Chinese wedding. So, maybe they are couples who were planning something and Disney took it up a level.

They discontinued the David Tutera connection some time ago, not sure why. Wonder if there wasn't a huge demand for couture weddings? Just thinking out loud.

They probably do pixie dust them, after all it will help sell all these beautiful options.
We wouldn't have known about some of the options if not for this board.
I think you're right, the couture weddings had limited spaces you could use and they were quite expensive, I don't think it ever took off.
I found the freeform channel on demand and was happy to see they have all the episodes available to watch.

Haven't watched the show, but I'm slightly envious of some of the options that brides have these days. DH and I were married at the DL Resort in 2003, and back then our options were very limited. We asked about out of the box things, locations not offered, and were shot down every time. They didn't even allow in park pictures pre-park opening in your wedding attire at that time.

I love this show :lovestruc

I didn't care for the MK wedding with the projection cake. I think the idea for the cake was cool but I didn't like that it was just a stack of white squares when the projection wasn't on. I like more elaborate cakes.

I could definitely relate to that bride's love of the MK fireworks, though! :goodvibes

The Epcot China wedding was amazing. I loved that they did the tea ceremony. I'm not interested in hockey, but how cool for that couple that the Stanley Cup was there!

I haven't seen the most recent episode yet but am looking forward to it!

I have read some Wedding TR's were couples have just gone into the parks during openings and have gotten married. Many said, that security came up to them and said it was a distraction that was not allowed in the parks. Many said they wanted pictures on their wedding day in the parks, so maybe wedding coordinator's realized this was huge and they took the idea from the guests that were during this. This is now part of a package deal, were the bride and groom can takes pictures at the MK at sunrise.

We asked about this back in 2002 and early 2003 and when we were planning our wedding and it Disney Fairytale Weddings made it very clear that this was not allowed. Especially as wedding attire, however there was an exception... we could be an international tourist from a specific region of the world (did see this while visiting one day!), or pay the $$$$ for an in park wedding. Sadly, a week before our wedding they decided to allow in park pictures for an additional fee. At that point there was no wiggle room in our budget for it. But it's nice to see that things that we requested are now available to others.

Oops, made the mistake of watching this with my daughter. According to her this is "everything" At least she laughed with me when we looked up the prices :)

Wife and enjoy watching the show and she loves all the options and details and me being the old crumudgeon I am sitting there asking over and over how much money is this costing these people? Having paid for one wedding and most of a second wedding I tend to be a little more questioning when it comes to price.

The cost varies depending on the number of guests and how detailed and elaborate you make it. The cost is on your guests, who have to travel and get a hotel room. When my husband and I got married, the majority of our guests had to travel regardless, and coming to where we live in NY would have limited there hotel options to fewer choices than WDW and we would have had less time with them. Most of our guest tacked on a few days and made a vacation of the trip.

In terms of cost, there are certain minimums you have to meet, but much of it is in your hands. Certain days, or times of day, some locations are more affordable than others. You can do something simple, or add on ($) characters, the Cinderella coach/Horse and Carriage, and other options. I have to say that when we were married at Disney, our consultant was very respectful of our budget and didn't try to sell us on things that would put us over. We did go a little over in the end, but it was our choice to add on a character, Mickey, who came to our dinner. We also included a MK and AK photo shoot that we hadn't even know about when we first started planning. Altogether, we had a beautiful ceremony, dinner and dessert party for about 28 people (plus the photo shoot that was on a different day) and the whole thing cost about $14K. All of our guests had a great time.

There is a budget estimator on their website that you can put in your wish list and #of guests and get an idea of what a wedding would cost.

Okay so $14k is not terrible. My daughter got married September 9 (I think) of last year which was a challenge because we live outside of Houston and our friend Harvey had only recently left town. We had 75 guests, bar-b-que and fajitas, photographer, photo booth, dee jay, venue, dress, alchohol, flowers (actually succulents) cake (actually a small one for cutting and cupcakes for everyone else) and decorations and at then end of the day including venue was about $17k.

I couldn't care less about the romantic stories -- sorry, not really my thing. :D

BUT, I love seeing anything behind the scenes Disney or Disney-that-I'll-never-personally-experience -- so I watch for that reason. :thumbsup2

They won't let you in the parks with wedding attire unless you have planned it through Disney and you are escorted in for pictures, your ceremony or dinner/reception.

Some people do weddings/pictures on the sly, but if they are caught- not sure what happens, but I'm sure its the opposite of pixie dust.

My dd will be getting married in Disney next year. I love to watch the show and also wish they showed more behind the scenes/planning the event. I am also thinking that most of the weddings on the show - is not your average Disney wedding (I look at the flowers/add ons and see $$$$ - unless Disney added them on/comped them for the show). Upsell/brides want what they see. Just hope they are realistic. Start adding photography, video, transportation for guests to ceremony/reception, your transportation (carriage, vintage car, etc.), flowers, entertainment, venue price, food, dessert party, characters, and so on and so on..........

Great entertainment :)

Congratulations to your daughter! She'll really enjoy planning. There is a weddings board here and planning resources elsewhere that she may or may not be aware of if she's planning a Disney wedding. If really helped me to get planning ideas and advice from other brides who had a similar vision as me. There is a guide out there to, podcasts, and information by an expert who is not affiliated with Disney and is on these boards- @lurkyloo.

I just watched this week's episode and was thinking the same thing about the amount of flowers the brides had, especially the "pink" girl. Flowers are a huge part of any budget and those big arches and pieces she had, the amount of petals, you're talking thousands of dollars, probably tens of thousands.

And to be married in front of the castle at Disneyland is some enormous surcharge in and of itself- I just checked and the wedding in front of the castle in the morning costs a minimum of $62,000.

All those items add up that you mentioned, but the good thing is that you know ahead of time what the price of each is. It you have unlimited funding lol then go for it, but you can still have an awesome wedding if you don't do all of it. I think it is best to have a set budget ahead of time and work within that with your planner to get to your day.

I want to have a vow renewal in front of the castle with Pentatonix performing! That was so awesome!!!
One can dream.....:lovestruc

I interviewed the Disneyland bride who had Pentatonix at her wedding. She paid for the castle wedding location and meal, but all the fun upgrades you see were comped by Freeform: the Pentatonix performance, the extra floral and decor, the cake that was taller than the she is, the private viewing of World of Color, etc.

It is unfortunate that Disney is promoting these experiences as if they are something you can actually do, and I feel for the DFTW sales consultants who will spend the next year trying to explain to potential brides why they can't actually use Hoop Dee Doo for their reception or have [insert popular performer] play at their outdoor wedding.

But if people are enjoying them as pure entertainment, then it's good that the show is helping to dispell the myth that all Disney weddings look like kids' birthday parties.

My best friend and I were at Disney in March on a girls' birthday trip together and decided mid week to go to Fort Wilderness and visit the stables so we could see the huge horses I love...we were surprised and excited to find out they were having a wedding there, and found out later it was for the show, so we actually got to see all the guests seated and waiting for the bride and the beautiful decor and how the cameras and behind-the-scenes stuff was all set up. It was very beautiful, and I got to watch the actual wedding on the second episode of the show and find out all the back story. They made us leave before the bride showed up for the shot, but we got to see the horse and carriage waiting off to the side. Really neat experience to witness that.

I'm finally watching an episode - not sure if it's the most recent or whatever. I like watching the wedding itself - could lose the whole backstory, blah blah blah. Am I allowed to say that I thought the bride's dress was not good? It fit her weird. It would have been much better if she lot the sheer neckline and sleeves.

I noticed that one wedding was at 6am and another was at midnight. Personally, I'd go for the midnight!
