Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I believe OC just got approval to open "further into stage 2" before this. So if Disney decides they could open DTD. I am still curious if it is worth it financially to open DTD without the parks & hotels to support it.
True! Even though orange county was approved, I wasn’t sure if Disney would hold off on reopening if there wasn’t a state order.

I just wonder what the potential legal quagmire looks like when a landlord has no legal reason to keep a shopping center closed.

Granted, those leases are probably ironclad that no tenant will dare challenge.

i still think it’ll reopen this week, if not Wednesday (my original guess), then by the weekend.

They are under no obligation to reopen if they choose not to. Time will tell. I think they will follow course with how Disney Springs was done. Open and allow nonDisney owned businesses to open. And then later reopen Disney owned stores.

I'll be ecstatic and pleasantly surprised if your prediction did come to fruition. I just think Disney would have already announced it if DtD was going to open this week.

I have friends who work at Downtown Disney ones who work at disney owned shops and ones who dont and they haven't heard about anything happening anytime soon and if they were due to open within the next week they would have been notified by now.

yeah I’m 0 for 2 in guesses and looks like I’m about to be 0 for 3, I realized WDW announces Disney Springs about 2 weeks before reopen.

I read a rumor online that WDW was caught off guard by USF announcing their early June date. Supposedly (take this with a grain of Internet blogger salt) WDW wanted to reopen August 31st after calling back staff at the end of July (coinciding with the rough end of summer/end of enhanced UI benefits).

This brings up the possibility again that DLR won’t reopen until September as we have a more cautious and deliberate pace of reopening in California vs Florida.

So I’ll reiterate my last prediction... DLR to recall employees end of July as enhanced UI ends and schools start taking students back, train/prep parks in August, reopen by Labor Day 2020.

Neither of these surprises me.

With the NBA in talks to use the WDW Resort/WWOS complex for games, I can't see WDW parks & resorts opening before this is over.

I would be surprised if DLR opened before September. I still don't believe it will open before the end of the year. This is assuming that Disneyland will fall under the "larger gatherings" and stage 4/end of shelter in place.

I'd be so sad but understanding if they waited until January 2021 to reopen, mostly because I love the halloween & christmas decorations, but they could always do a Christmas in July kind of thing lol (hopeful i know, i wouldn't mind seeing Christmas decorations put up twice) but just not have the holiday haunted mansion until halloween time.

If the January 2021 opening happens, I wonder why they would choose to open in the middle of flu season?

I think we have lots of experience with flu, available vaccines (and crap treatment like Tamiflu), and a variable peak time. Sometimes flu peaks early, other times it breaks late. We only know in hindsight.

I personally full doubt 2021 as a reopen time given that SDL has already opened and TDL/TDS and HKDL are on radar to open soon. Plus Universal Studios Florida + Osaka have clearances to do so.

Plus I want that dang UBS guy to be totally wrong!

Two nights in Vegas and I’m done..... I like two of the shows they have, and I love a good pool and a cocktail. It’s fun to look at the different hotels and the shopping is great. It was fun in my 20s. Now I’m 40 and I hate cigarette smoke and there’s so many other nice resorts with pools, cocktails and no seedy people and cigarette smoke. Give me Disneyland or WDW any day!

I’m with you. My husband and I loved Vegas pre-kid. Now I can’t stand to spend more than a few mins in a casino. Now we have to travel to Vegas a couple times a year for gymnastics meets. The last few seasons, we flew in early morning from San Diego and flew out late evening from Las Vegas. No hotel stays necessary. Our daughter really wanted to explore Vegas this season, so we stayed one night and watched a show. If her meets were during pool season, I definitely stay longer. But they aren’t and there are better pools in nicer places I’d rather be... Like DLR!

Not trying to start an argument here but why would you say that Tamiflu is "Crap"? It is used to lessen and mitigate flu symptoms like cough and fever, not unlike other over the counter cold and flu medications. It's claim that it may prevent the flu might stretch things a bit but I have taken it before and found it worked pretty good on symptom relief. Just think the term "Crap" is a little harsh.

Oh it’s totally garbage treatment, if you dig into the studies (and in practice), it only cuts a day off of symptoms (IF given on time) and does nothing for mortality.

Hey @pharmama come weigh in, lol.

And to keep this DL related, Newsom stated “therapeutics” were needed for stage 4. I always wondered if that meant any therapeutic, even with minimal proven effectiveness. So that way, a box is checked in the meantime and the real gold standard will be vaccine + immunity from getting COVID.

We will have to agree to disagree then.

fair enough, I have a few docs that swear by it, I tell them it works because they tell the patient it works:flower1:

but truthfully, this was a hot topic 5-6 years ago, a lot of us were annoyed we had to stockpile ($$$) this steaming pile of manure drug. here’s the meta-analysis I was alluding to: https://www.bmj.com/content/348/bmj.g2545

note: I was wrong when I said it knocked a day off of symptoms, apparently I was too generous, it reduced symptom duration by 17 hours.

AGREED! HATE Vegas, I don't even like driving through there.

California's economy will not recover until the tourism industry gets back to full steam ahead. I just read an article about that.

There will be a STRONG push to get Disneyland open sooner rather than later, just watch.

It will be open this summer, in some capacity, likely by July IMO.

I can’t remember the figure, but it was either $8B or $16B in direct and indirect impact that DLR had.

I think you might be right, I’ll stand by September as my initial guess due to child care and UI benefits, but I think Newsom is moving faster than he’d like due to pressure from below.
