Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I work with 2 people that take Vegas trips each and every year. The funny thing is they have both said to me how can you go to Disneyland/Disney World as often as I do as they just cant imagine what you would do at a "kids place". I don't even try to explain it to them since when I pointed out to them that they go to Vegas every year themselves they looked blankly back at me.

Two nights in Vegas and I’m done..... I like two of the shows they have, and I love a good pool and a cocktail. It’s fun to look at the different hotels and the shopping is great. It was fun in my 20s. Now I’m 40 and I hate cigarette smoke and there’s so many other nice resorts with pools, cocktails and no seedy people and cigarette smoke. Give me Disneyland or WDW any day!

This is where I'm at. Our last trip we actually changed our flights and came home early because we didn't want to stay a third night.

We went twice in the last 15 months for concerts because we don't get big acts here and it's an easy trip from where we live. I can still see us traveling there for concerts because it's a quick trip and there are so many lodging choices, but that's not my destination for a vacation.

I don't think Vegas hotels are there to be hotels; they're there to attract people to their casinos, which is where the money is. It's a totally different kind of clientele and can't really be compared to Disneyland IMO. I've gone many places in the U.S. and paid as much for a nice hotel as I do at Disney. DLR has a unique market and definite limitations, including the ability to expand much, so the price isn't that surprising if you consider that the demand has generally remained high. It may be a different story once the new luxury hotels go in; time will tell, but I imagine the hotels within the resort will remain the most popular within their already established niche market.

Dining in restaurants and shopping inside malls and stores were given a green light in Orange County on Saturday, May 23.

Man, I felt like the shutdown gave me whiplash with how quickly things went from “normal” to “full lockdown,” but I’m starting to feel the same thing in reverse! Maybe Disney will reopen July 1? I really thought there was almost no chance of that even a week or so ago, but it feels like there’s a lot of momentum building towards reopening everything! I honestly have such mixed feelings about all of it...

Was not intending to start a Vegas vs Disney debate. We have been once and it was fun. Was just pointing out the irony in my coworkers not getting my love for Disney and my multiple trips there when they do the same thing just to a different destination.

I feel ya, I have all the mixed feelings and whiplash. I’m in Colorado and our lockdown was pretty strict and then all of a sudden it went reverse in the other direction. And now our town is packed to the brim with tourists heading to the mountains for Memorial Day. 😬

I’m more in the camp that I want DL to open when it’s ready to do so safely and fairly. But just give me a date already! Even if it was months away, the not knowing is what gives me all the anxiety.

Oh and also an excerpt from the article above:

“The county also announced a new order: All Orange County residents and visitors are required to wear cloth face coverings in public places, while shopping or while at work. Masks must be worn when a person is not able to maintain a distance of 6 feet from others they don’t live with.”

I don’t think we had much doubt at this point that masks were going to be required but this just helps confirm that.

Oh! You know, I didn't realize they would need to be cloth masks. Thanks for this info.

same here, it was sort of fun when you’re in your 20s, still able to fully function on 2hrs of sleep on a lumpy couch, and it was all new.

It’s really the cigarette smoke that gets to me. No thank you!

So as of today, there is no legal impediment to Downtown Disney reopening, I’m expecting non-Disney shops to reopen within the week.

I’m going to peg this as Wednesday, May 27 for the first stores to reopen. My county in the Bay Area went into this phase and a lot of the chain stores are reopening midweek after the holiday.

I hope so!! I would so go after work if they reopen Wednesday!!

I bet vloggers and bloggers are really sweating it. No way they should get unlimited excess with this reduced capacity. There are some who go almost daily. I know we are talking a small segment of APs, but the days of DL loitering are over for the foreseeable future. Disney would not want that inequity in full display.

Speaking of Vegas, DL is going to be focusing on their “whales” high rollers who are going to bring $ during low capacity to offset operational costs.
What we see in other themeparks across the world is that AP holders no longer have unlimited access, everyone needs a reservation. I'm sure there will be a few to try and get reservations for multiple days, but then it's first come first serve. I do believe that every park has or should have a max for AP holders and a max for day guests

What will be interesting is what will happen to the flow of guests during the day. When you have a park with lots of locals and therefore many AP holders is that around afternoon/ dinner time the park gets a bit busier for people coming in for a few hours after work. That's something you cannot do on a whim anymore for the coming months. Coordinating with friends with APs will probably more difficult, so my guess is that the evenings will be quieter than before.

Also interesting to watch is this video of TDR Explorer (one of the best English websites on the Asia Disney parks)

Jeez the cast members are aggressive about those boxes. I don't think I'd want to go ... anywhere really and feel like I'm going to get in trouble and be yelled at just for standing somewhere. I'm paranoid enough about getting in trouble as it is, I don't need any more added stress. 😓

I think that they will have to limit the number of days each AP can reserve each month in order to keep it fair. However, I am wondering, do you think those with a higher level of pass will be able to have more reservation days? Or do you think it will be the same for all passholders? I wish I knew what they were doing.
