Do you ever wish to be cut off from the news?

All I hear are bickering politicians, stories of rape, murder, assaults, arson, theft, racism, even how soon the world will come to an end!

Sometimes I just contemplate cutting myself off from the news.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I have done it, and choose when and what news sources I want to hear from.

I watch virtually no TV, and when I drive I listen to a number of podcasts or other radio shows, when the "news" comes on I either turn it off or change the channel.

I use an app on Facebook that nuke any posts regarding my own "kill words" list, this has been a great asset so I can enjoy Facebook and not hear about the the current "issues" of the day that he media or my "friends" want me to buy into. I've also removed myself from all groups like my local paper and other "news" sites, I can block those sites as well. It makes Facebook fun again.

I stopped taking my local paper years ago after they started reporting like a click bait ad vs. real news, about the same time all of the good reporters left anyway. Now I read our local Journal of Business cover to cover since the reporting is about what is actually happening in my area, reporting facts and not opinion (or as close as you can get).

All that and I think I am very abreast of current issues, but I avoid the banter and fluff.

I stick to CBS Sunday Morning. Yes it's fluff unicorn and rainbow pieces, yet it's something I need. I've cut way back on national news and tune into local news after the first 15 minutes for weather & fluff. Some stories lately I didn't find out until my phone alerted me.

Yes. And I do when at our house way up north. No tv, no cable, no internet no phone. WW 3 could start and I wouldn't know it unless a Mennonite farmer rode his horse 10 miles to tell me. Going soon can't wait.

I can't cut myself off as much as I might want to, but I am very persnickety about my news sources. Weirdly, my now DH is one of the few men I've met who enjoys the same news sources which kinda was an easy point of commonality.

News knows how to get the viewers they are not going to stop with the bad news. Going to get 6 inches of snow they will report you are going to get 8-12 if they had a news station that only reports good news it wouldn’t last long.

Sometimes, yes. I used to disconnect pretty often - actually, I didn't realize how often until I couldn't do it any more - and I'm still selective about my sources, plus we don't have TV so I miss the worst of it. But I still miss being able to go total radio silence every now and then the way I used to.

Yes. But then I remember I have bills to pay.

I had a lady call the newsroom right after the FEMA Presidential text alert test asking what was going on. It interrupted her looking a pictures on her cell phone. I explained, and noted that it had been the topic of news stories, and Internet posts for several weeks. Her reply: "I got rid of my TV and Computer 7 years ago, nothing on TV or the Internet that was worth my time"

So yes, there are people have disconnected from news and almost the entire world.

One of the things I love about the "Disney Bubble"!

My husband and I used to watch the news for about two hours a night. It would be on in the background while we did other things and often we would actually sit and watch. A few years back I had to stop--it just left me angry and sad. I still read the news (sparingly) but I never watch it. My husband will occasionally watch a bit. You'd think he was watching porn for the way he apologizes and I leave the room.

I love news. I keep it on FNC 24/7 even when I’m at WDW. It’s on channel 17 (FNC) right now as I’m enjoying my coffee from Fuel.

A few years back is about when the news actually became good again. So much good has happened since then.

I did it years ago and still do. I don't actively watch the news...at all, from any source. My gym has a bunch of TVs with no sound, one is on MSNBC and one on Fox News. I'll "see" bits and pieces if I look up at it, but I really don't pay attention to them. I wouldn't even call Fox a news channel anyway, from the very few bits I've seen.

I don’t watch the news, but I keep up with it on my phone. I like to stay informed and aware, so I don’t feel like I’d enjoy being cut off.

What I do enjoy is some well deserved relaxation and mindless tv show watching. I’ll usually put in nick at nite and watch Friend’s on my break at work. The news can be sad and so is my job because of the population I work with. Sometimes I like to just take a breather.

No. I start my day drinking a cuppa while reading several newspapers and news channels online. It's calming, I feel informed and nobody is up but me.
I avoid tabloids in any form thus miss the more lurid stories, gossip, and girls in bikinis.
