Do you have a television (cable, dish, etc.) service?

We just disconnected from Spectrum - formerly Time Warner - and now have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu. We are going to see if we miss having cable. What do you have? Are you happy with it? Are you contemplating making changes?

I have an antenna to get the main networks for free. Also have a netflix streaming subscription for $7.99/month. Works well for me!

We have regular, non-cable tv, Netflix, & some app tv channels we watch through our Apple TV. Plenty for us!

Between Netflix and Hulu, I really don't miss cable.

It would be different if I was a religious watcher of sports, but I'm fine with going to the local bar (or the stadium) every once in a while.

We have had U-verse for over a year and love it. Prior to that we had Comcast (it was the only service available). U-verse is much, much more reliable and the strength of their signal is phenomenally better.

We watch a lot of sports so I don't think we are candidates to only rely on services like Netflix or Amazon Prime.

I have cable and no streaming services (not much selection in Canada). I wouldn't get rid of cable because I like channels as opposed to specific shows.

I need internet for my phone , as I don't have a cell phone. And it would have been more expensive to not have cable hooked up. We used to have only internet and netflix and hulu and the phone. The the prices went up so much , we had to add the cable to bring the cost down. I was trying to save money. Well that put a halt to things. I am not happy but not much I can do.

We had DirecTV for many years. Then went to over the air for 4 years, we to cable TV for the last 4 years. It is a line item in our budget and if we need to cut it someday, we will, but for now, we can afford it and we enjoy it and use it.

Are you by chance a COMCAST customer? Because that sounds like Comcast's evil ways...

Yes that is the BS line that Comcast always feeds their customers. If you cancel cable we will increase your bill so you are paying more for internet only. They pull that crap on me and I called their bluff and said fine cancel everything. They "found" a plan for me so I only pay $39.95 per month for internet. Much better than paying outrageous fees for cable.

That is exactly what I was thinking:lmao:Their "promotion" ends like once a year and I am absolutely not paying for cable. No sir. So I call them up and threaten to walk and lo and behold they find another "promotion" even when at first they'll say no internet only promotions exist.

Yep, I have cable, and the premium channels, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Netflix through my Apple TV. Clutch your pearls boys and girls, because I also have a fully funded retirement portfolio, but OMG! The irresponsiblity though. Its so wasteful and I'm rotting my brain with every re-watch of True Blood and Mad Men, and I love it.

Seriously, I'm single, you can take the remote at night out of my cold, dead, tv watching hands. I have certain shows that I'm willing to pay the money for. Let's say I watch just 4 hours of Netflix a month - total cost per hour of entertainment? Nominal. I think of all cable in those terms and it really isn't that bad. And honestly, I have so many channels, there is never a time I can't find Law & Order reruns, which I find super soothing in my creaky house alone at night.

Lol. All right. I'll come clean You caught me in a lie. I DO miss those law and order reruns. SO MUCH. To be honest, I don't pay for cable simply because I haven't figured out where to put a TV...the choices are: on bookshelf, over window, on the ceiling, or in the middle of the very limited floor space. It's nothing to do with financial irresponsibility. If I could solve that problem, I would have brought a big flat screen tv home from Costco AGES ago.

I just think people get so funny about cable and having TVs. I swear to god, if there's some vegan, smoking, TV eschewing dude in Eash Nashville, I've dated them, or they've tried to date me and make me recant my cable loving behind. I have 3 of those big flat TVs and I'm NOT SORRY! Lol, seriously I have one hanging up in my bedroom right now, and I'm watching Golden Girls and its awesome. I would totally be in AWE of someone dedicated enough to have a TV on the ceiling. I mean - whoa! Do it! I don't know how it would work, but I want to see it:)

I had cut the cord for several years, but went back to cable and now Fibre.
    • Marvel and DC evening shows are my weakness. The evening shows are so much better in recent years.
    • love the HD PVR's where I can watch things at my own time.... not live like with an antenna.
    • being able to watch/record more than one station was a bonus
    • HD was a big conversion reason for me

We have DirecTV including HBO and Netflix and Amazon. I also love Law & Order (particularly SVU) when I can't sleep way too often and Frasier reruns are a necessity for me. I guess that we really should add Hulu...

I could pretty easily do without the networks though. I watch very little on those.

#teamgoren, but SVU is a favorite too!

I watch a single show on network TV...lol. I get it. Hulu has some original programming that makes it worthwhile.

I think you mean eschewing. But yeah, I totally get it. My mother is one of those anti- TV people. I actually have yet to date a guy like that. Maybe because I haven't dated a true hipster for long. I'm all for other people being Vegans or vegetarians or pescatarians or organic only, as long as they don't attempt to make me see the light over my evil ways of steak and Oreos. That is strangely hard for the local species of hipster to refrain from. :sad2: I love veggies, and cows are cute, but cows also happen to be delicious. I actually had one guy tell me that I would change my mind if I visited a farm and met a live pig. No. No, I wouldn't. My cousin's ffa pigs were all smart, handsome beasties and they became really fabulous bacon.

Believe me, I've tried to work out the ceiling conundrum. The ceiling is the leading contender of space I can put it. It would be dead over the couch, and I would be totally ok with laying flat on my back to watch. But I have yet to work out how to secure it properly. It needs to be secure enough that I don't worry about it braining me, and look good enough that my landlord won't come up with a reason to outlaw the tv ceiling solution. My neighbors are largely college kids and I think he gives me a lot of slack because I'm not one of them. I mean he'll judge me if I do it, but he won't make me take it down if I do it well.

My friends who live in the suburbs or in Idaho don't have this kind of dilemma. They moan about closet size and bathroom number while I'm just wishing I had actual closets and normal sized cupboards.:lmao:why am I still here??

Oh. Right. Because there is actual stuff to do that doesn't involve driving or crap roadside bars. NOW I remember...:rolleyes1
