As long as you get the link and put it in MDE before paying you are probably fine. There should hopefully never be someone standing at check-in with a problem. Once the reservation is within 31 days and still in MDE I would think it's almost 100% safe. If someone wants to scam you, they wouldn't willingly put their points into holding to do so when they already had your money before that and could have cancelled on you already

Unless their plan was to change the names on it and use it themselves I guess, but someone at disney should be able to track them down (if they wanted to help you)

Its nearly 100% safe anyway, but since the owner can change names on the reservation up to the moment of check in, you aren't safe until you check in. Someone in the past few years was renting the same reservation multiple times and changing names.

And Disney won't do a darn thing. I don't think they COULD even if they wanted to. A hotel (or timeshare) should never be giving out guest contact information, that would be a huge liability issue. Any CM that "helped" you in that manner would likely find themselves jobless.

As crisi says above, Disney won’t get involved. Renting from a member is a private transaction. I’d be comfortable renting from a member here on DISboards who had multiple other posts, not just “points for rent” posts, I could read.
