E is Three! A Tale of Food Poisoning, Hurricane Irma and Ever Changing Plans! Completed 2/7

Our First Park Day!

I couldn't sleep, too excited, or maybe nervous about the storm, I was checking the reports as soon as they were being released. At this point we still seemed to have a chance that Irma wouldn't be a problem, so we went about our plans as usual. I got up, and fully ready, woke DH, and tried to wake DD. Boy, is she not a morning person at all! Good thing our buddy Goofy called, cause she woke right up for him!

We made our way downstairs, grabbed some caffeine and hit the boat! Since it was about an hour before park opening the boat to MK wasn't running yet, but the boat to Contemporary was up and running! It did, however take an eternity!

We got to Contemporary at about 8:27 AM, we chose to walk to MK. It was nice going through the little private security area on the side walk, much less painful than the previous arrangement.

By the time we got into the park and up Main Street the Castle Show was just starting. It's a cute show, and E loved seeing all the characters, but it pales in comparison to the show at the train station. Once they dropped the ropes we walked, as quickly as possible to the stroller parking by the fancy Rapunzel bathrooms. Stroller parked we hit Peter Pan, but it was down. Fine. We booked it over to Pooh Bear and walked on. Elora loved the ride, as she had in March. Pooh was her first Disney love.

I checked the TP app to see how Peter was doing. I really wanted to do as much as possible this morning, Irma was weighing heavily on my mind and I feared we’d lose park time. Pan was up so we went back that way. Posted wait time was 20 minutes, but it felt more like 10 or so. We LOVED the additions to the queue! The bedroom is adorable, and the little surprises were wonderful; I don't wanna share too much as I had no idea about them and was so pleasantly surprised.

Man, Elora LOVED this ride. She was basically trying to stand up the entire 49 seconds we flew through Neverland. Once we were back in MK we crossed the walkway to my favorite, Elora’s too, Small World! I won't post photos, cause you've all seen it. Funny thing; E calls this ride Disney World. She associates that silly ride with Disney World. My poor husband hates it, and we rode it like 100 times, lol!

After Small World we crossed Fantasyland again for our fastpass to meet some Princesses.

As chatty as Elora is, she clams up with the characters. I feel like she's just so in awe of them she can't find the words. She also kept sitting down with them when they would sit down to talk to her. It was adorable. Both meets were great, lots of hugs and smiles really very cute.

DH wanted to get in line to meet Cindy and Elena, but the posted wait was 45 minutes, not happening. We decided to grab the stroller and get some food, it was almost 11 AM. I suggested we do the Harbor House so we headed that way, but not before a ride on the Carousel! Another of E’s faves. She named our horses Melon (mine) and Strawberry.

We mosied over to Harbour House, but guess what, they don't open until 11:30! I had no idea, and it's listed as being available at 11 on Touring Plans… oh well! Guido needed a DSA, so he went off into Adventureland and I took Elora out towards the castle to catch the first castle show.

She was a little grumpy, hanger I suppose. We'd had some protein bars and milk for breakfast but we all clearly needed food. The show was super cute, and entertaining. Three of my favorite princess and Mickey Mouse? I was happy, as was E! She stayed put for most of the show, then as she was losing interest, Elsa made snow from her hand and Elora went bonkers. She kept asking me “Did you see that?!” It was hoot.

Show ended, and Guido met us near Sleepy Hollow. It was just after 11:30 AM by then so we went back to Harbour House. Guido was clearly about done. Idk if it was heat, hunger or stress from his new deadlines, but he was not happy. I sent him to find a seat with Elora and went for food. I ordered the Sampler platter and the kids nuggets for us to share. As well as two cokes, and a milk for Elora. It was honestly the perfect amount of food. We sat for a while, the dining area was still quiet, so we just enjoyed the AC, and chatted a bit.

Being right there we decided to jump in line for Haunted Mansion; posted wait was only 15 minutes. When we visited MK in March DD hated this ride. But in recent months she's been obsessed with the Haunted Mansion movie starring Eddy Murphy…?? so I was hoping this would be a better experience, and it was! She loved the stuff in the queue and the ride, especially Madame Liota.

When we got off the ride, it was pouring! Like torrential downpour. And get this, these jerk people were standing under the awnings just outside the ride exit, not moving, and blocking the exit. This one family literally just stood there, shaking their heads no when a cast member came up to them and asked them to move along as “this isn't a rain shelter.” I said something to them, cause I couldn't help myself. I said, what if someone gets stuck on that moving walk way and gets hurt cause you're blocking the exit? I got the same response as the CM. I was seriously enraged, I mean it's rain! You'll dry. Any who!

Cont. in next post...

We decided to just go through it. I cover the stroller and we booked it through the crowds forming under any and all shelters. We turned into Fantasyland and I decided we should just go to Enchanted Tales with a Belle, our second fast pass. I’d manage to lose DH in the rain, but just for a minute. He was hiding under the shelter next to Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up! As luck would have it Peter was out and still meeting guests!

I was trying to get some FP+ for Epcot that evening, but there wasn't much available. Since I heard the wait to A&E wasn't too bad, and times looked good, I figured we'd see them, then have dinner and see what else we could possibly do. Everyone napped, and I went to the pool for a Mai Tai and a dip in the hot tub. I also called my mom to chat about her travel Day plans.
When I finished I stopped in the mercantile for some milk. On my way back to the room I signed up for a DVC tour, which came with a $100 gift card and fast passes for the entire party! I signed mom up too, which meant another gift card and more fast passes! We'd take the tour on Saturday at 8 AM, before our ADR at Trattorio. It made sense cause that was to be our resort day…
When I got back to the room I woke DH, got dressed and tried to wake up DD. Well, Elora did not want to wake up. It was really a tough task getting her to get outta bed. I considered cancelling and just hanging in the room, but once DH mentioned princesses she was up. Unfortunately by the time we were ready to go, I knew we wouldn't have time to do much in Epcot.

I took this awful, blurry, photo at 7:22 PM, dinner was at 8:10 PM, park closing at 9 PM. I basically knew we were gonna have dinner and head home, but I didn't mention it cause I didn't wanna get anyone upset. We checked in for the reservation right at 8 and I took E to the bathroom. I considered popping in for the M&G here, and I really wish I had cause we weren't actually seated until 8:35 PM. Sadly we would not be meeting Anna and Elsa this trip...
We met Belle upon entering. She was ok, gave E a good little hug. Poor Elora is an aggressive hugger when she’s excited. This kid is all or nothing, so sometimes she’d like sorta lean in, but other times she was mauling characters! I felt bad, cause Belle is her favorite, but this greet was over pretty fast and no one was behind us waiting.

We ordered wine and beer and I went to grab some stuff from the salad bar area. We were literally in the last table all the way in the corner next to where the princesses enter the back stage area. DH was not happy about this. He didn't understand why we'd waited so long for a table only to be sat there, especially since the restaurant was not full at all. Also, being near a door with DD is always trouble, and she may have tried to open it… We tried to brush it off, but then the interactions were less than desireable, it sorta felt like we were a bother, which was bizarre. I know it was late, last seating and all, it just wasn’t a good time.

Snow White, however, was great. She wished E a happy birthday and they talked a while about the Dwarfs and the witch. It was sweet, but everyone else was kinda, hi, photo, bye. The food got to us at 9:10 PM. DD was crazy hungry by this time so she devoured the chicken right away.

Everything was good, but I was starting to feel odd. I felt sorta bloated and a little queasy. I figured I'd eaten too much and moved past it. We got dessert as well as a birthday cupcake for Elora and a signed card from the princesses, which she loved. I took a few bites but was really feeling off.

We paid the bill and slowly walked out of the park. I told DH I wasn't well, something wasn't sitting right, but he and DD were fine. We grabbed some water and pressed onward; I just wanted to get to the room. By the time we boarded the monorail I was so nauseous I couldn't sit up straight. I buried my head between my legs and basically hid behind the stroller. As we were leaving the Grand Floridian stop, the unthinkable happened; I was gonna lose my dinner.
Thinking fast DH grabbed the ziplock I brought a change of clothes for DD in and handed it to me. I won't describe the rest.
It was horrible. I was mortified, but thankfully the car was empty at this point. DD was asking a million questions! We got to MK and I discreetly disposed of the bag. I was still queasy so we took our time getting to the boat. We got to the room and DH took care of DD. I spent the majority of the night in the bathroom.
Not a great place to end things, but it wasn’t for me either, lol!

Oh man! I am so sorry you had to end your first day in the parks like that! I hope you felt better the next morning!!

I have only seen videos of the new show, but I agree. I miss the train show!

We definitely rode It's a Small World for DS this year. My husband is not a fan either.

DD had to be measured at the front, and again inside, but she was totally tall enough (I made sure of that). And let me tell you, that kid is a roller coaster girl!

So great that she was tall enough to ride! I can't wait until we can ride a roller coaster with DS. It will be fun to see how he reacts. Elora looks so happy!

Cutest meet, ever! Tink was so engaged and E was so glad to meet her. Elora thanked her for the gifts she'd left her, and without a beat Tink said you're welcome and asked if E really liked them. That second photo is Tink admiring Elora’s sparkly sneakers. Adorable! Super glad we popped in.

Great job by Tink!

Boo! I guess I know where the food poisoning part of the title comes in. I guess it's good that it was you and not Elora!

It was pretty awful. I thought for a minute I’d caught whatever DH had before we left Michigan, but it was food poisoning for sure.

That's not good, would hate to get really sick in Disney.

It was pretty terrible, but that fully did not effect too much of the trip.

I have only seen videos of the new show, but I agree. I miss the train show!

It’s cute, and DD loved it, but I wish they still had the train show. I’d stay out there and wait for it!

My dad hates it too, maybe it’s a guy thing?

So great that she was tall enough to ride! I can't wait until we can ride a roller coaster with DS. It will be fun to see how he reacts. Elora looks so happy!

She was so happy! It’s her favorite ride, and she still asks me if I’ll take her on it.

Great job by Tink!

It was an incredible meet and greet. One of the best!

Boo! I guess I know where the food poisoning part of the title comes in. I guess it's good that it was you and not Elora!

Oh my gosh! Idk what I would have done if it had been my babe. At least it happened the first night and not in the middle of the trip, lol!

I'm a little late to the party, but ready to follow along! We ended up cancelling our trip last month because of Irma. We were to fly down on the 8th and come back the 17th. We ended up re-scheduling for January.

:welcome: Never too late; I’m off to a slow start...

Glad you guys were able to reschedule. January in a orlando can be lovely, but it does get a bit chilly!

I don't to sound dumb but what is a DSA? Really enjoying your TR so far. We went the week after Irma!

Not dumb at all! It took me forever to learn all the abbreviations. DSA is a Designated Smoking Area. Much to my chagrin DH is a smoker...:sad2:

I thought it had to do with his anxiety issues.......Decompress Safe Area I would have never thought smoking.. I mean he just got off the plane stuffed full of people and now going to be stuffed into a bus.........Makes sense, right?

I thought he wanted a few mins alone before continuing and the DSA was a code word between them.

I was thinking the same thing too since she said he suffers from anxiety. Now we know!

Just found your report and read your pre-trip report too. We were there 9/2-9/9. We were driving back to TN so left at like 2:00 AM Saturday due to all the evacuation traffic. Ended up being the right decision. Only took an extra hour to get home and only one issue with not being able to get gas. Our friends were with us and their parents ended up leaving on Wednesday and had a much harder time getting home. We were at Epcot this Wednesday, and the the Halloween party Thrs (MK actually all day), then HS in the AM and MK to end it Friday afternoon/night. Packed and had 2 hours of sleep before we started our drive back.

Your DD is adorable!! I used to suffer anxiety issues bad... after years of it they sort of just went away. I do have to take medicine to fly, but that is it now. Hopefully your DH's works itself out too. It can be awful and life changing.

I love all the princess pictures with your daughter. She is adorable. I'm sorry to hear what happened after dinner. That is some kind of nightmare. Did you ever find out what food caused the problem?

Nice morning at MK! Totally agree with you about the ropedrop show. It is nice, but not quite what it used to be.

I'm glad things worked out so that you could get to Peter Pan before the line got too long. You rarely hear of it being down when the park opens, but knocking out a couple of the dark rides with longer lines seemed to work well for you.

I can see why she'd call IASW Disney World. It is that quintessential Disney attraction that has been around forever and everyone knows. As much of an earworm as it tends to be, it just isn't a Disney trip without riding it.

I think it was a good idea to split up so your DH could do some work and get away from the park. Definitely want to try to get as much park time as you can, especially with the potential for lost park time coming up.

Sorry things didn't work out so you could meet A&E or do more in EPCOT. We had that exact same experience waiting for our table at Akershus a couple of years ago when we were the last seating. Sorry the princesses were lackluster, but that just seems to be how it is at these character meals. I mean they're either, as you described, hi - picture - bye, or they're just above and beyond... not much in between. It's too bad all but Snow White were a letdown.

What a way to end the night... oh man, I just can't even imagine. That's awful. I know it had to have been a rough night, but I hope it was a quick recovery!
