ECV in a Regular Room at BC?

Hi Everyone,

My aunt got hurt at work a few years ago and now permanently walks with a cane. She is coming along with us on our trip and we are planning on renting a scooter for her. However, we do not have a wheelchair-accessible room. Will the ECV fit in the room even though it is not wheelchair accessible?

Edit: Also, how do we go about charging the scooter? Where/how?

All room entry doors are 36 inches wide, most ECVs are no wider than 24 inches so getting in or out of the room is not a problem.

The charging unit will normally have two cords, one to the wall and the other to the ECV. Each cord tends to be about six feet long, so that allows parking within 12 feet of an outlet. The rooms have lots of outlets.

The battteries on a standard ECV are designed to allow for 25 miles of driving. It normally takes less than four hours to bring them up to full charge, so it just will need to be plugged in while you are in the room overnight.

The worst that may happen is it might be necessary to move a table to get a place to park in the room.

Just to add - the basic size of the wheelchair accessible room is the same as a non-accessible room. The differences are in how the space is used. If there us a roll in shower, the bathroom needs to be arranged differently to make room for that. If the bathroom space needs to be enlarged, they usually 'get' that space by making the bed part of the room smaller.

Some people also bring along a power strip that they can plug into the outlet and turn on and off for use. With that and the long cords that Cheshire Figment mentioned, you will be able to have an easily accessible place to plug the ECV in for charging.
