EPCOT Handicap Elevator to the Monorail Photos 12/2018

When leaving the EPCOT park to use the monorail to go the Magic Kingdom Ticket Center Station, use can use this elevator instead of using the ramp.

It is a shame that they don't have an elevator to roll up that steep ramp at the Magic Kingdom Ticket Center Station. That ramp is steep to drive up.

This elevator only really works one way to the Magic Kingdom Ticket Center Station.

Coming from the Magic Kingdom Ticket Center Station via monorail to the EPCOT monorail Station, they guide you to exit down the ramp with the other guests.

So how do you find that elevator?

These folks are leaving EPCOT and heading to the ramp to walk up to the monorail that goes to the Magic Kingdom Ticket Center Station. You could do that. The ramp is not real steep like the one going up the Magic Kingdom Ticket Center Station.

Or you could head for that gate in the distance with the handicap sign.

On the left is the security area to get into the EPCOT park. And to the right is the coffee shop. And behind me is the exit gates from Epcot.

This is a close up of the gate. I usually push it open with my good foot until I can reach it with my hand. Make a right turn and you will see the elevator doors.

I turned my wheelchair around and took a photo looking at the gate that I came through and the elevator doors. This elevator only has two stops. Don't forget to push the button!

I have arrived at the top level looking out of the elevator and I will turn left to the monorail area.

I am out of the elevator and looking toward the monorail platform. The cast member usually sees you and opens the gate and directs you to the designated Handicap loading area. As usual other guests may load after you.

The cast member is waiting for the doors to open and then he will place the ramp down for you to drive up.

I agree with you that they should have a elevator at the MK station. That is a STEEP incline and if you were at the park all day, your battery is pretty close to being dead and that incline WILL kill it.

The difference between the Epcot station and the MK one is that the Epcot one has levels where it’s flat before going up another incline so to give the batteries a rest where the MK one is just one steep incline.

Another thing, the maxium slope that the Victory 10 3-wheel scooter, which is the most common weekly rental scooter in the park (EVERY rental company offers this model) is only 8 degrees, where the ramp on the MK station is considerably greater.

They should’ve taken these into consideration when building the stations.

Sadly, I think those stations were built long enough ago that motorized personal mobility devices weren't really part of the planning process.

It wasn't that many years ago that a much smaller percentage of the population used mobility devices outside the parks; they were generally too wieldy/too expensive/too scarce for a lot of folks to use them. Wheelchairs were much more common, and I imagine that the thinking was that those folks would have help being pushed up the ramps. (Because let's face it - it also wasn't all that long ago that people in wheelchairs weren't really considered much at all in the grand scheme of things; it took the ADA and a *lot* of effort to get us to the point of acceptance that we have today)

So very true. So many things that we take for granted today was never even considered at one time.

You're going to love the Fold and Go Wheelchair it can reach inclines of about range: 25° Slope or 46% Grade.

I didn't have any problems and I weight about 340.
