In Feb I took my youngest DD (Michaela) to the emergency room with 104 temp that turned out to be a bladder infections but her bp was 131/121 and 2 days after that it was 142/92 so we met with nephrology (sp) and she was put on medication. I have to take her bp everyday now. More test have showed that her right kidney is shrinking and has a lot of scar tissue in it. She has another appointment in July and more tests before the appointment to verify that if they remove the right kidney the left will work ok by itself.

Last week she hit an uneven spot on one of the neighbors sidewalk flipped her wheelchair over and has a minor closed head injury that has caused her right eye to cross and today got fitted for glasses.

I know lots of people live fine with only 1 kidney and I also know that a 3 year old can't stay on bp meds for the rest of her life but boy it scares me.

Sorry this was so long.

I am so sorry that your Daughter is having such a tuff time. If it is any help , My Angelina had her right Kidney removed at 7 months old. I know how hard it is to know that a vital organ needs to be removed. It always seems like our special kids have one thing ontop of the other. I am sending so pixie Dust you way.

I'm sending pixie dust too.
And if it's any help, my mom has lived her whole life with only one kidney - and doing very well too. She found out she only had one when she got a bad bladder infection when she was about 40. They did some tests and were real surprised to only find one kidney!
So, hopefully, once everything setles down your DD will live a long and happy life with her one kidney.

Thanks everyone. I'll be glad when it's over, but for now the waiting until July to be sure the left kidney is working well enough to support the loss of the right one seems like it's forever.
