Everything You Need to Know about Redeeming Airmiles for Disney World & Land & Universal Tickets

As Disney continues to raise the prices for ticket media and our dollar struggles it has become even more attractive to redeem Dream Airmiles for Disney tickets. The introduction of the Canadian Resident Discounts on tickets has created a lot of confusion over the value that Disney is placing on the tickets obtained from Airmiles. This thread will be a place for everyone to share how many miles they redeemed for what tickets. We can also share the value that Disney has given these tickets when someone decides to upgrade to a different ticket when they are onsite.

Let's work together to combine Airmiles Math with Disney Math to stretch our money further

This can also be a place to talk about any questions we might have regarding the use of these tickets

FAQs

Wait, I can use my Airmiles to get tickets for Disney and Universal? How do i do this?

EASY! You can redeem your Dream miles to get attraction tickets. You'll find them within the Events & Attractions section of the Dream Rewards
448985 From there select Fun & Attractions -USA
448986

GREAT, now how will i get these tickets?
Airmiles will send them out to you either thru Canada Post or a courier (this varies depending on time of year!) They ship from the Toronto area so, depending on where you live in the country, you should receive them within a week.
OK! Will I be able to attach these to my Disney account?
Of course you can! The tickets have come directly from Disney and you will easily be able to enter them into your account and assign them to anyone in your family & friends list.
Will I be able to book my Fast Passes with these tickets?
You sure can! If you're staying on site you'll be able to make FP+ 60 days before you arrive or if you're staying off-site at the 30 day mark. They will work the same as any other tickets.
Since we don't get Magic Bands delivered does this mean my tickets will need to be linked to the Bands we'll get when we check in?
Not really, think of your Disney Account (MDE) as a main vault where all of your important information is stored: room reservations, ADRs you've made for any meals, credit card for any charges you might make and any ticket media you have assigned. Your magic band is simply an access point to that vault, nothing is actually stored ON the band itself other than a link to everything in your account. If you have more than one band on your account they will ALL work interchangeably because they are all accessing your "vault" So if you want to mix it up and order different colour bands to match your outfits, have fun! If you have a ticket in your account ANY band will allow you to use that ticket.
I didn't get a ticket from Airmiles I have a certificate that says i need to exchange it for my ticket. I thought you said I was going to get a ticket, what's up with this?
OH, so you redeemed for a Canadian Resident Discounted ticket! Then yes, you will have one extra step to take before your ticket will actually let you into a park. You will need to provide proof of residency at a Guest Relations location before you enter a park, either at Disney Springs or any of the 4 theme parks. While we can argue this till the cows come home, there's no way around it, you want to save the money (or miles in this case) then you need to follow the rules Disney has put in place. Oh and while we're on the subject, the poor CM's at the counter have no idea what the difference is between citizenship and residency and will more than likely be wanting to see your passport, that's just the way things are!
I want to get a ticket that isn't offered on the Airmiles website, how can i handle that? Can we just take the ticket and upgrade it at the gate? We really like to Park Hop!
Sure, you had to ask a messy question! The answer is a very solid *maybe* and you might not like what you're going to read next. Forget what you have heard, read and even experienced personally in the past, you can no longer "bridge" the tickets you will be getting from Airmiles. It doesn't matter if you use the ticket once to enter a park and then try, that loophole has been closed, you will only get the value assigned to that ticket when it was sold to Airmiles. OR worse, whatever Disney has decided to now assign to that ticket. If you try to upgrade one of the Canadian Discounted tickets just know, up front, that the number you will be quoted will more than likely be downright NASTY! You are well advised to get the ticket which closely matches the exact number of park days you'll be wanting because to upgrade on site will be expensive (or you might find a CM who is even unwilling to upgrade it AT ALL!) Disney is in the business to make money and they are always happy to take more from us but these darned Discounted tickets are causing headaches. If you have a *regular* ticket you shouldn't have (much) trouble upgrading at any Guest Relations location (again, you do NOT need to enter a park first) There have even been reports that you can do the upgrade directly from your MDE.
I'm sure i heard that people have used Airmiles to get tickets that I can't see on the website, even party tickets. What's that all about?
Well, you heard correctly! It is possible to redeem miles for just about any ticket media (not just Disney/Universal BTW, ANY ticket for ANY attraction) with one small wrinkle --- You need to be an ONYX collector for this perk.
AWESOME, I am ONYX! I don't see anything different on my computer though, where are these magic tickets hiding??
GREAT, you must be a master collector then! You need to start a request for a Personal Shopper to get those tickets for you by either starting an online chat, calling the super-special ONYX hotline (just kidding it's no different!)1-844-399-ONYX or if you have an account you can use Facebook Messenger. You will tell them exactly what you want them to source for you (be very specific, 10 day hopper for adult starting on the exact day you want OR the exact date of the Christmas Party you want to attend) and they will get back to you with a quote that you either accept or decline. It should take less than 2 weeks from initial request to getting the actual ticket. The formula that Airmiles seems to be using is 14.2 miles per $1 USD

Is this more a Disney World thing? For DL airmiles offers 3, 4 or 5 day park hoppers for both adults and kids. There is a fixed price. What would the differences be? Am going to order 3 (5 day adult hoppers) next week and would love to get them cheaper but thought there was a set price.

You got in here just as i was adding the picture to the above post! I'm hoping people will share all of the information they have on redeeming for both DisneyLAND and DisneyWorld tickets.

Quick answer to your question (if I'm reading it correctly) the *price* you see on the AM website right now is the only *price* for those tickets. DisneyWORLD is a different beast than LAND in that we can't redeem for anything other than Base tickets and if people want to upgrade to either Hoppers or Annual Passes the value that Disney is applying to the AM tickets doesn't seem to be consistent and is causing tons of confusion!

Thanks, that makes sense. In DL it offers park hoppers which is a must in my opinion. It does not offer max pass but you can add that to any ticket for 15 on the day of. For our family of 5 that is 75 bucks US a day!!! We won't be adding maxpass so its not a big deal to have that option. Thanks for keeping the forums so user friendly!!!

Hi
While going through my UO stuff I found an airmiles U/O Multi Day Ticket.
2 day PTP Adult -Access to both Parks and City Walk
Ticket expires 13 days after first use.
I did not use this ticket.
Can I still use this ticket next March 2020?
Do I need to go somewhere to upgrade it before use?
Hoping to stay at a Universal Hotel for one night if I can save up enough airmiles.

Thanks
Mel

FYI, for Universal, Airmiles currently offers a 3-day, 3-park Park-to-Park ticket for 3800AM. If someone was interested, you could buy this tickets with points and then "upgrade it at Universal" to an Annual Pass. The value / upgrade cost will depend on the current prices but at the moment, a 3-day, 3-park Park-to-Park ticket is worth $304.99 so they'll credit you that and you can get one of the annual passes they offer (Seasonal Pass (has black-outs, no free parking) for $304.99, Power Pass (less black-outs, 1/2 price parking) for $354.99, Preferred Pass (no black-outs, some early admission, free parking) for $394.99 and Premier Pass (no black-outs, more early admission, free preferred parking, Universal Express Pass after 4pm (i.e. cut the line after 4PM), one free HHN ticket). There are other more minor benefits.

Aug 2019, we used Onyx personal shopper to buy 2 adult 7 day park hopper passes for WDW and we were charged 15,500 AM.

They are good for Feb 4 -12, 2020.

At the time we bought, the only passes available on the AM reward site all expired Dec 31 2019

@Donald - my hero, raw historical data above, I plan to continue to fill in holes and make sense of it (chart it perhaps) and soon as time permits.

Above is a work in progress, please everyone feel free to correct, add etc.
OH-EM-GEE! I'm in complete awe! I should have let YOU start this thread!!! Seriously, you've put the information I have collected to complete shame
