Hi! Was wondering if anyone on this board has gone to Universal with anyone in a wheelchair, or with mobility problems. My son walks but has some mobility problems, and when I called US to ask a couple questions, I was given very negative answers. Basically, I was told that they will not make any accomodation that would potentially slow down or inconvenience other riders in any way - such as slowing down boarding to let a disabled person get on. This has never been a problem at WDW - is US a lot different in their approach to the handicapped?

I went last year and found it to be very Unfriendly. They do not go out of there way to help at all. I am not saying we deserve anything above the normal person, but when you are in a wheelchair and can't walk for anything more than a few feet... I went on the ripsaw falls ride, was told it was a short que ( it was a short wait but a very long walk) got up there and my knee couldn't bend enough to fit comfortable in the boat so I had to exit. i told them I needed my chair and thye told me it was right out this door. I go out it and I am behind the line with a long walk to the front and no one around to help. By the time I got to my chair i was crying from the pain. I insisted on seeing a manager and when he came, he said he was sorry, they should have escorted me back to my chair, and I said what about the hike and he said thay thye are more of an adventure park so it is not Equipped for the EVC/wheelchairs. i didn't go on a lot of rides becasue the standing time was too long, it wouldn't have been bad if the chair fit and i could wait.

IoA is not really the best park for someone with mobility issues. When I was there with my broken leg, I really only did 3 attractions:
Posideon's - stayed in wc, but had many people try to stnd directly in front of me so that they could be the closest to the action
Sinbad's - show, so it ws fine
Cat in the Hat - went through exit and was able to keep wc for boarding.

I probably could have done Spiderman, but I didn't remember if there was a lot of legroom and with the humidity and swelling, bending my knee was a problem, so I skipped this ride.

Universal was a lot better. There is nothing with a conveyor belt like Disney so the loading is always at your own pace. Most of the attractions here are shows so you really don't have a problem if you have a wc.

The Mummy has certain cars that they know are returning to the one side so if you cannot do stairs, you can ride that one. I was able to fit in this with my cast just fine, although my broken leg was not resting on the floor (purposely). There are also elevators and such that will help you get to the riding platforms.

There were a couple of rides that we didn't do due to some bad rain storms and running out of time, but I did mos tof the larger rides at Universal.

If you need any specifics, I would be glad to help.
