"Five Mickey bars hit you like two glasses of wine!" a Jan 2019 adults-only TR *COMPLETED* 6/25

You should've just said that was there names were and had us all shook
DANG maybe I can just go back and edit it :P

Luckily stomach bugs are little bursts of awfulness and are over with as quickly as they came on so you could have fun on the rest of your trip
So true. Although it's hard to remember that when you're in that little burst of awfulness.

I'd love to go back and see it without all the walls blocking everything.
No walls in sight- feel free to explore next time you're there!

Oh and welcome!!

Oh man, I am HERE for this trip report! Love your writing style and I love reading adults-only trip reports (my husband and I don't have kiddos..yet... so these adults-only trip reports help with my planning!). Can't wait to read more!!

Well awesome- glad our childless-ness can help you out!

(Also I see you are a fellow butterbeer fan. You are welcome here)

Hey, hey, I'm here. Great start to the Trip Report, sorry the actual trip started off a little bumpy. Looking forward to the rest of the story:ccat:

I'm here!

I'm glad your travel went smoothly. But UGH that is just horrible that you got sick on the very first night. It's good that you were able to rest at WL. Hopefully Jon doesn't get used to the "relaxing at Disney" thing!! :rotfl:

WL is so pretty! Sounds like you guys enjoyed your initial time at the resort!

Welcome back! Looks like your trip was extra ~magical~ and I can't wait to hear about it!!

Yeah I already told him not to count on that much Disney down time too often :P

Being sick on vacation is such a bummer! Hope the rest of your trip went great can’t wait to read about it!
Yes it was definitely a bummer, but the rest of the trip was fantastic. Hope you enjoy reading along!

Following along!

I remember reading about you catching the bug in your PTR, but still stinks to read about it interrupted some of your plans. It's a bummer when that happens, but resting that following day probably did wonders.

My husband started bringing our Firestick on trips and it's been a game changer! So nice to be able to relax and watch a show or two.

Wow, I didn't realize how in-depth Copper Creek is. I could spend a short trip just hanging out at WL!

Yes, Copper Creek is amazing! We are so happy there :D

A Most Magical Evening

Happy Friday to all of my internet friends out there! Let’s just jump right back in here…

HAHAHAHA laughing because I wrote this on a Friday thinking I’d post it that day but GUESS WHAT I didn’t. So happy whatever day it is when I finally get this posted.

After a brief pit stop in our room to gear up, we went down to the dock to take our first ever boat ride to the Magic Kingdom!

It was an absolutely gorgeous day and the boat ride was so pleasant. It’s also neat to watch Space Mountain and the castle come into view like that. Security was nice and short since it was the middle of the day and in hardly any time we were walking through the tunnel and into my favorite place on the planet.

We got into Town Square and noticed all the people on the sidewalks. I thought to myself “Hmm, seems weird that all these people just happened to take a sidewalk break at the same time.” But THEN I looked at the time and realized it was 10 minutes until Festival of Fantasy. So not so weird. We had time to kill until our ADR so we grabbed a spot and watched the parade.

As a (very) amateur photographer, parades are an awesome way to practice taking pictures. I had just upgraded my camera and this was my first trip with it! So I was really annoyed when all my photos were coming out with a weird tone. Because I was also using a new lens then the settings I was used to weren’t working and I had to keep adjusting. So that was a fun learning process :P

But here are some of my favorite shots of the parade, weird tone and all:

[I think Naveen is telling a dirty joke]

By the time the parade was over, we had about 20 minutes left before our ADR and we decided to wander the hub and soak in some MK vibes before eating (and of course take advantage of some PhotoPass opportunities).

Fun story about these shirts: I bought Jon’s last May when I went to WDW with my mom. I thought it was perfect because it was his favorite color and Mickey is playing guitar, which Jon plays. Fast forward to my birthday trip in October and I happen to see the matching Minnie shirt, which is not only my favorite color but also features Minnie playing the piano- which I play! I thought it was destiny and I made Jon match with me.

We checked in a tad early for our dinner at The Plaza, which was meant to be an early dinner. Wayyyy back when I made our ADR plans, I had us booked for a breakfast at Whispering Canyon, so my intention was we would stuff ourselves early in the day, then be ready for some more food by about 4pm. Obviously our plans shifted, but I wanted to keep the ADR because we hadn’t been to the Plaza before.

It was really tough choosing what to eat. I really wanted the brisket mac and cheese but I wasn’t sure if my tummy was up to something that rich yet. I went with the strawberry chicken salad, which was a good choice. It was a pretty standard salad, something you can find at really any soup and salad place, but I’m glad that they had a lighter option on the menu!

Jon got the meatloaf and oh man it was good.

It took a while for our food to come out and when it did, Jon’s didn’t have the green beans with it. The server said it was taking a while for the green beans to cook and he decided to just bring our food out to us and then bring the green beans later (which explains why it was taking so long). Then when they brought out the green beans they were still pretty much cold.

alice shrug.gif

Oh well. He didn’t order the meatloaf dinner for the green beans anyway :P It just would have been nice if the server didn’t wait so long to make the call to bring our food out!

Side note- the Plaza is tiny. Like maybe the smallest TS I’ve seen on Disney property. But it makes me feel so old-timey, like I should be milling my own flour and finding a chaperone to escort me everywhere.

After dinner, our next item was a POTC FP so we left old-timey America and headed deep into the jungle/Caribbean/Middle East/etc. We had a little bit of time and Jon wanted to check the line for Jungle Cruise because of a super convoluted reason…

…which I will now explain to you (if you thought you were getting out of this one- think again. Or just skip ahead). Jon’s last experience with Jungle Cruise was at night. I love JC at night because it adds such a cool ambience to the ride (especially in the temple), but Jon? Not so much. He thinks the skippers at night are more in a hurry to end their shifts and get home so they don’t have as much energy and aren’t as fun (granted- our skipper on our last JC ride before this trip wasn’t great and it did happen to be shortly before park close when we rode). SO he wanted to make sure we were going to ride it during the day on this trip, and therefore have a higher likelihood of getting an energetic and downright hysterical skipper. I couldn’t remember if we had a FP later on in the trip for it during the day and that brings us to the point where we decided to check on the line.

The wait time was 30 minutes, which isn’t terrible, but JC happens to have one of the worst queues ever and while we were standing there debating getting in line the wait time went up to 45 minutes so we decided to skip it. (If I had just checked my app I could have seen that we did indeed have a FP for it later on and during the day, no less. But I really didn’t feel like messing with MDE just then)

Instead we went toward POTC to use our FP. It was a normal POTC experience. We pillaged. We plundered. We didn’t give a hoot. We got a mediocre ride photo.

After we got off we saw that Splash only had a 10 minute wait and we thought we would go keep our Briar Patch friends company.

[We introduce- the splash selfie]

[Splash selfie in action]

While Splash was fun, it was merely a diversion while we waited for our BTMRR FP to open. We went for a nice, calm ride through a very well-maintained mine. Not at all wild.

Next up was something awesome: checking off the final ride in the MK that I had never been on. Any guesses???

It’s the Barnstormer.

Sorry for the letdown.

I just never wanted to dedicate time to what I knew was a kiddie coaster but for a long time it bothered me that I couldn’t say that I had ridden every ride in the MK (although it makes an excellent option for 2 truths and a lie because everyone assumes it’s a lie :P). Well ladies and gents I can now officially say that I’ve ridden every ride at the Magic Kingdom.

Such an accomplishment deserved a celebration and I knew just what I needed- a new popcorn bucket. And boy howdy can you imagine how excited I was when I saw that these little beauties were back in STOCK???

[His name is Buckey]

Basking in the glow of my new best friend, we took an opportunity to bask in the glow of actual lights. Castle lights, to be precise:

[I was so surprised that the lights were still up so late in January but I mean they’re so pretty]

Our last FP was Space Mountain, and we enjoyed a nice tea party in space.

[It was a very short tea party and quite difficult to keep the tea in the cup. I would not recommend for future beverage-themed soirees]

When we got back to earth we went ahead and grabbed a spot for HEA, and we got a really good spot! I wanted to take the opportunity to try out my new camera with the fireworks and I think I got some okay shots. I definitely don’t have a great setup for fireworks photography but I like how much clearer they are than on my phone.

[I will say I don’t think the lady next to me appreciated the sound of my camera. I tried to limit how many photos I was taking, but hey at least I wasn’t using flash]

Now it’s time for a question: What’s the best way to end a night at the Magic Kingdom?

Ice cream. The answer is always ice cream.

We joined the crowd at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. I usually get some sort of chocolate/peanut butter combo but tonight I was really just feeling an outrageously over-priced root beer float.

Jon went with the brownie sundae, which is a MONSTER of a dessert.

It’s a huge brownie topped by two over-sized scoops of your choice of ice cream, fudge and whipped cream. His also has peanut butter on it but I’m not sure if that comes on it or he added it.

Miraculously we found a table right outside the parlor to sit and eat and people watch. Then randomly the castle started this Pinocchio-themed show. It didn’t have any projections or anything, just music and lights. I had never seen anything like it but it was really neat to sit and eat our ice cream and watch this little mini show.

A few minutes after that the closing show played so we finished our ice cream and took a boat back to the Wilderness Lodge. Overall a fantastic first day (I’m not counting the day before, for obvious reasons).

I agree taking the boats from the resorts is so magical. I prefer it so much to the monorail. There's just something so quaint and majestic about it especially when the castle and Space come into view like you said.

I've been doing Disney parks photography for years now, I even have an Instagram exclusively for it and I actually like how your photos came out. They could've been lightened but it looks like it was a bit cloudy so that makes sense. Just what editing is for! haha But seriously they look fine and the hue is not weird, that's pretty normal looking considering the weather.

Awww I love your matching shirts! How lucky that you ended up coming across both. It's too bad Photopass didn't have you do more with them.

I will have to disagree with Jon and say that all my best Jungle Cruises have always been at night. I also will add that all the best Skippers are at Disneyland but this is a WDW TR so y'all can ignore that hehe

Omg you actually took a selfie for a posed selfie photo on Splash! I've done that on so many rides and never actually took the photo because I know my face and hair would look ridic but YOU DID IT! Mad props for that. And lol, I've also done the tea party in Space. Iconic poses.

Ok but your fireworks photos came out A LOT better than mine ever have. My hand is never steady enough.

Let's be honest on the outrageously overpriced root beer float, it's worth it haha

Lol, are you talking about the Kiss Goodnight (when they play 'When You Wish Upon A Star' and Mickey says goodbye and the castle changes color)? This was your first time seeing the Kiss Goodnight? Omg, actually my favorite thing I cry every time. This is the first time I've heard someone not know what it is. But awww, what a great way to end your day. Parlor Ice Cream and the Kiss Goodnight *happy sigh*

Ugh I need to actually learn how to edit hahaha

Well we’ll be there in July so we’ll put that to the test :P

No, it was something different I think? I’ve actually only seen the Kiss Goodnight once and it was a while ago. I’m usually exhausted by the end of the park day so I don’t stay too long after closing haha. Anyway it was lie 15 mins before park close and they played a bunch of Pinocchio songs like I Got No Strings and An Actor’s Life For Me. I’ve seriously never seen something like it before!

Joining in. I'm planning my trip with 5 year olds in tow, so I have to live vicariously through the adults-only trip reports. :-)

It looks like you've really managed to turn things around after a rough start. Here's hoping the positive energy sticks.

Thanks for joining us! Adults-only trips are fun but there is that special magic of seeing little ones experience pixie dust!

I'm a little late to the party, but joining in!
Wilderness Lodge is at the top of my bucket list. I'm not sure I'll ever get to stay there, but I enjoy reading TRs from there.

HAHAHAHA laughing because I wrote this on a Friday thinking I’d post it that day but GUESS WHAT I didn’t. So happy whatever day it is when I finally get this posted.
I'm just now reading it on Friday, so it made perfect sense to me LOL

Side note- the Plaza is tiny. Like maybe the smallest TS I’ve seen on Disney property. But it makes me feel so old-timey, like I should be milling my own flour and finding a chaperone to escort me everywhere.
Perfect description of The Plaza! I love eating there because it is just so quaint and nothing else like it anywhere at WDW!

LOL That's why I always try to liven up our photo with a finger-hook and hand-eye patch :) My husband is pretty embarrassed of me...too bad!!

I just finally rode the Barnstormer last January, so now I've officially ridden them all, as well, but I am SO bummed I never thought to use that as my lie!!!!!!! That is genius, right there.

I started writing this last Friday haha. Guess I got a little behind :P

And it's really reasonably priced, too!

I told Jon specifically where this ride photo was, then I even gave him a warning that it was coming up and it still caught him by surprise :rotfl2:

Right?! Because right away most people know we're Disney freaks so they assume that we've ridden every ride. I'm going to have a hard time beating that one...
