From AOA to BLT for $15 (7/10-7/19) updated 9/20

Really jealous (minus the hvac issues of course)!

Staying CR or BLT TP view has been on my bucket list. CR since I was a kid (obviously BLT wasn't around back in those days).

A 2 br?! For the price of an AoA suite? I know obviously the circumstances around it are in no way ideal, but that's amazing.

Can't wait to see how it all turned out.

We headed upstairs to says goodbye to our 12th floor room and pack up our items.

We paused to take a few pics from our balcony.

We quickly packed up and waited for our new room number to pop up in MDE.
Here is a two bedroom dedicated villa layout. Ours was actually reverse of this, but you get the idea.
50165948733_dbda7d6ccb_z.jpg

within 15 minutes our MDE reflected our new number 7924. This is the 9th floor, not quite as high as 12th, but it’s amazing how close you seem to be to Space Mountain.
50166753602_44eb8e8ec3_z.jpg

The room is identical to the 1 bedroom, so I‘m just adding pics of the new bedroom with two queens and it’s bathroom.

The bathroom has a door to seperate the tub/toilet from the sink, which is very nice. Grandma and Lydia shared this room and were excited for their own regular beds and deck.

After this very crazy day we finally headed off to bed. The parks open the next day, but we opted to give them a day to work out issues and we’d relax and hit Disney Springs.

On our first full day I woke up early, so I headed out to explore.

At home I walk a lot, I set a goal to walk 2020 miles this year, so I wanted to make sure I still got some miles in on our quiet day.

The resort area was beautiful. I saw very few people, and everyone had masks.

The pool

I‘m not generally wary of birds, but these guys were all over. I assume they’re hunting for breakfast in the lake.

Just a couple more around the area.

I love the art around the resort. I wish they sold small prints of the different pieces they have around.
this is the hotel entry art.

Donald by the elevators, the towels are for rain I guess 🤷‍♀️
50163648293_264c87e178_z.jpg

After this I went back to the room and we ordered Contempo breakfast, there are no pics of this, but we split a few bounty platters, so it was boring 😉

I had to freshen up and get picked up by Alamo to go to the Car Care Center!

We had opted to pick up a rental car from the Car Care Center (CCC). I was able to snag a deal on a mini-van for $325 for 8 days.

Pro tip- if you’re going to get a rental car, compare the price of airport pick up/drop off to the car care center. If I had gotten the van at the airport it was over $700. Airport pick up has so many fees. It would been even cheaper if I returned to the CCC, but we were finishing our trip up at Universal so we couldn’t take the Magical Express.

We also thought taking busses with reduced capacity could be problematic, plus our own car is way easier to social distance.

With current regulations the Alamo shuttle will pick up only one person and that was me, he picked me up right on time and drove me to get the van. Very simple!

The Alamo representative told me to pick a color and sent me on my way. I chose dark gray like my van at home.

Then this happened 😂😂
50171185513_74cc9e3d35_z.jpg

They obviously had to come shuffle some cars for me. The van also had minimal gas
50171726846_b3c994734f_z.jpg

but a quick phone call and they updated their system to reflect I didn’t start with a full tank. (I don’t think I was supposed to pick gray 🤪)

Pretty soon I was headed back to grab Eric from BLT and saw this beauty! The lack of traffic was awesome!
50171982302_d0389502d4_z.jpg

Eric and I quickly ran to the closest Walmart and grabbed a few snacks and a ton of beverages. Unlike at home Walmart had 100% mask compliance so while it was busy, I felt pretty safe.

We headed back to the hotel, stocked the fridge and headed out to Disney Springs, we had a date with Oprah’s favorite chef!

Having our own car was great, we drove straight to Lime Garage and soon enough we checked in for our Homecomin’ lunch reservation. It was raining pretty steadily, but they seated us 10 minutes early, so that was nice.

50171185443_09ded27051_z.jpg

We were quickly seated in a booth near the bar. The bar itself is closed for seating, so to my side it was wide open spaces. You’ll also notice that the booths are surrounded on 3 sides by plexiglass. They didn’t leave empty booths, but the plexi glass definitely kept you separated from others.
50171982297_4d74d82244_z.jpg

50171185473_0b26124192_z.jpg

We all ordered drinks and Eric had a Rumshine punch. Described like this on the menu:
Rumshine Punch - 22 oz Jumbo Squeeze Bottle
Strawberry Rumshine, Blackberry Brandy, Banana Liqueur, Pineapple Juice and House-Made Grenadine. It was delicious, I don’t drink much and had a few sips of this throughout lunch, and now at home I drink my iced tea from the squeeze bottle 😀
50171982292_601e9aeab5_z.jpg

The food arrived quickly, it was all delicious. I’ll attach menu descriptions of our selections.

I had:
Fried Chicken Salad
Crispy Fried Chicken over Mixed Greens, Pecan-Smoked Bacon, Egg, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, Red Onion and Cucumber tossed with Icebox Dressing, Cheddar Biscuit Croutons and Fresh Herbs
$18.00

50171185468_387b7f5964_z.jpg

I took off the onions. It was very fresh, the chicken was awesome, perfectly moist, but also crispy. I wasn’t sure about “ice box dressing” It’s not quite ranch, but I’m not really sure how else to describe it. The biscuit croutons were a bit odd, they weren‘t bad, they tasted good but weren't crunchy like a regular crouton. I would totally order this again.

Lydia chose :
Fried Chicken Sandwich
Buttermilk-Brined for 24 hours, Double Battered, Dressed with Hot Sauce Aioli, Iceberg Lettuce, Tomato and Bread and Butter Pickles, Served with House-Made Barbecue Chips, Drizzled with Icebox Dressing

She left off the aiolI and ice box dressing. They sent it out with dressing on the chips, but the waitress caught it and quickly brought her chips without dressing.

50171185458_6cae292dd5_z.jpg

She really enjoyed the sandwich and finished it. She ate some of the chips, they actually had a bit of a spicy kick.

Lindsay chose :
Kitchen Plate
A Sampling of Three Different House-Made Sides
$19.00

She’s a carbivore, her sides were biscuits, sweet potatoes and Mac and cheese.
I love sides so I stole a bite of her items, the Mac and cheese was AMAZING! Not as good as California Grill Mac and cheese but really good.

50171726806_f358cd789c_z.jpg

Grandma ordered from the appetizer menu and picked :
Thigh High Chicken Biscuits
Three Biscuits topped with Chef Art's Famous Fried Chicken Thighs and Bread and Butter Pickles. Drizzled with Hot Honey

It’s definitely a large enough portion for an entree, she ended up finishing all the chicken, but left some of the biscuits behind, it was too much bread for her. She and Eric loved the hot honey.
50171185463_872962180d_z.jpg

Eric picked the signature dish of Homecomin’.

$18.00
Art's Famous Fried Chicken
Buttermilk-Brined for 24 Hours, Then Perfectly Fried, Served with Creamy Mashed Potatoes and A Cheddar Drop Biscuit

50171726786_3aa533a0c8_z.jpg

This was very good, same chicken as my salad. They debone it almost all the way which makes it nice for cutting, I’m weird and don’t eat food on a bone so this would have appealed to me.

We’d definitely eat here again, the only issue is that there are so many places to try at DS.

After lunch we masked up, said goodbye to Homecomin‘ and went to see the sites of DS. Don’t let the weather worry you, it was beautiful when we were done eating.
50171726766_27ffda10aa_z.jpg

We stopped by the Coca-Cola store, we’d never been there before and I was surprised by its size.
50171185403_fe674e8b11_z.jpg

After Coke, we hit up UniQlo and LEGO, Lydia had a gift card she’d been saving and her own money for a shopping spree. (repacking on day 8 was super fun 🙄)

50171726736_cde2f5ef7c_z.jpg

We didn’t buy this beauty yet, but it’s her dream. (psst it might be my dream too)

50171982167_4f4ebcec95_z.jpg

The socially distant line is right next to this mural, but it was short enough we could grab a pic.
50171726731_049a982122_z.jpg

Lindsay had fun at UniQlo, they had adorable and affordable Disney shirts. Lindsay wanted her pic by the wall of socks . She bought some shirts by her favorite artists, Keith Haring was one.

50171726711_954e227d06_z.jpg

We looked around World of Disney but it was chaos, and we noped out of there, we just didn’t feel safe.

Disney Masks were on our must buy list, our hotel had some but not too many. At this time they had them in only one store 🤷‍♀️, and to get in line you had to go the weirdest route.
You had to go to the front of the store to learn that you had to backtrack and circle the big building to get in line.

50171873461_6442fe60f7_n.jpg

You were limited to 4 masks per person, we bought 8 since Lydia was with me. They made the perfect souvenir for her friends back home. Definitely go large. Lydia was able to wear a medium in a print she loved but could not find in a large.

We finished up our shopping with plans to return on Tuesday. It was hot and busy so we headed back to swim.

Of the three parks and DS that we went to DS was where we felt social distancing lacked. They tried but it’s so busy.

Next up: Pool time and a Poly visit

Wow what a great upgrade! I'm jealous. Can't wait to read about the rest of your trip. It will be interesting to see how different people feel about trips with all the new regulations.

As soon as we got back from Disney Springs we headed down to swim. You select the beach chairs that are empty and in a size that works for your party. They have plenty of towels available as well. When you’re done you set the seat back all the way forward and soon enough they’ll be clean for others.

the pool wasn’t too busy, and people generally kept their distance, smaller children were the most likely to get too close, but that’s to be expected.

It rained for a bit and we started to discuss dinner. Our options were limited unless we wanted to drive. We opted to order Capt Cooks from a Poly, a quick monorail ride away!

soon enough I heard “Por Favor Mantengase Alejado De Las Puertas” music 🎵🎼 to my ears!

50174856136_4dfd1fe8a4_z.jpg

50175111422_f4d66273a7_z.jpg

Social distancing was good on the monorail and we had our own car, at this point its just past 7pm, and we’re on our way to pick up our mobile order.

Capt Cooks was so busy and time is ticking away. And we learned that the monorail stopped at 8 pm 😳 😯 I didn’t think to check that before we left 🤦🏻‍♀️

At 7:40 Eric, Lindsay and Grandma headed back on the monorail in case we missed the last monorail and I needed a ride back.

Lydia and I continued to wait... at 7:51 the food was ready. Lydia and I had our two drinks filled grabbed our bag.

We ran to the monorail and hopped on and breathed a sigh of relief. Took a quick pic in celebration!
50174554753_b730696fab_z.jpg

Then I checked the bag 🤦🏻‍♀️. They had given us 2 of our 5 meals and my cupcake.

Its now 7:54. Oh crap!

We ran as fast as I possibly could in flip flops through the Poly and down to Capt Cooks. The pick up person said “I’m so sorry” I said, ”Thanks so much, but let’s hope I catch the last monorail or you have to give me a ride home” We quickly laughed and ran back through the Poly. Security was dying laughing at us!

7:59 and we made it 10 seconds before we heard this

“por favor mantengase alejado de las puertas”

Funny enough, there was some monorail issues so the rest of our party beat us by about 2 minutes.

On our ride back Lydia and I saw this!

I chose the Poly over Contempo Cafe because CC was out of cupcakes 😯 and I needed a Disney cupcake! I almost regretted that choice when I was almost stuck at the Poly.

Goodnight castle, we‘ll see you soon up close!
Tomorrow we go to Animal Kingdom

We will be staying in at two bedroom at BLT in November. Is there room in the master bedroom to set up a portable crib? Looking at the picture, it is hard to tell how much wall space there is.

Thanks! :thanks:

there should be near the patio door. There’s a good sized chair between the bed and door. If you moved that into the main room you should have plenty of room for a port a crib.

Joining in! We did Universal when they first reopened in June and had a wonderful time (as I hope you did too) and returned from WDW a few days ago. At first with your room issue I was afraid you were reliving a not so pleasant experience we had at the BW in 2015 but I'm glad yours turned out an easy fix and a(nother) great upgrade!

She hates nature and much prefers all her vacations to be Disney based
This is also my preference lol

Wow, so many twists and turns to your room story, with a happily ever after pixie dusted ending! Great pic of the rainbow next to Bay Lake. I’m looking forward to reading your report and much appreciate your comments on COVID precautions.

Just found your report. Looking forward to reading more about your adventures. Great start !

Thanks to everyone who has joined in!

Today we head off to Animal Kingdom for its second day open. I’m going to break it down into two posts and try and give you an idea of crowd level on this day, as well as Disney‘s precautions.

We arrived in our own car at 7:25 (park hours 8-6) they had just let a batch of cars in and paused us as the second car at our booth. We sat for a few minutes and were wondering if they were holding us back til 8 or what the plan was. They let another batch in at 7:35 or so. They directed you where to park, skipping spaces for distancing.

We followed the other guests toward security, it was easy breezy, we didn’t have anything to remove from our bags.

Soon enough we were seeing this site!

50182028681_ea6c6f82c5_z.jpg

As soon as we tapped in (no finger scan) we headed toward Flight of Passage.

I snapped a few pics of this gorgeousness!

Pandora was within our sights!
50182286927_c69b00a9ab_z.jpg

We entered the queue at 7:50, they were not running the ride, you can tell they have distancing markers for a very long queue, we walked past a ton. We stood in an undecorated area for 10 minutes and right at 8 they line began to move.

They really did a fantastic job with this queue. We waited a grand total of 19 minutes, including the 10 before opening, before we got paired up with our avatars.

this room was different than normal, it could be that it just happens to be long instead of wide, or this could be a COVID thing 🤷‍♀️. Instead of two sides of people it was a long row with screens on the long wall not the short wall. It was us and a single lady. After the videos the single lady went to the other room with 8 banshees. We were alone in our room.

We loved the ride, as always, and soon enough we were going on a River Journey.

Immediately after FOP we walked to Navi, it said 10 minutes, it was maybe 5. They had a lot of markers in this line too, all guests at both Navi and FOP followed all markers!

We coasted through the most peaceful ride ever, in our own boat, and all too soon we saw this lady and our journey was wrapping up.

50182285497_ceb40eaacf_z.jpg

Navi is a really pretty ride, but not a must do, however in the July heat (yes, even at 8:30 am) it was a nice reprieve.

We grabbed a drink took a short break, so we weren’t wandering around maskless, then we headed to my favorite AK ride, Kilimanjaro Safari. It is now 9:10 AM.

It was walk on. They are not skipping rows on this ride, so lower capacity is not an issue. They had added plastic barriers between each row that went close to the roof of the truck. They did stress that masks must be left on (which was different than AP/CM previews).

50182305972_b48ec9543e_z.jpg

It was a great safari, the animals were very active.

Just read your entire TR so far. I have enjoyed following along on your adventure. Fantastic upgrade to the BLT one/two bedroom villa! I am sure the balcony and wonderful view really added a special touch to this trip, especially since you probably spent more time at the resort than you might normally due to the shortened park hours. It is nice that your mother-in-law was able to join you.
Looking forward to hearing more about your trip.

I, too am named Michele (though I spell it with one l) and I live in Illinois. I live in Bloomington.

Joining in. That's some serious room pixie dust you had. Not that having to cancel or the AC issue was pixie dust but $15 from AoA to a 2 bedroom villa is pretty spectacular. Looking forward to reading more about your experience. We are hopefully headed down for Halloween and its great to have see some first hand experience.

just about 45 mins from you in the Decatur area!

Now I’m very curious about your not so great room issue!
Oh man lol, too much to write! It was Thanksgiving 2015 and we started with a sewage issue 👃 It took them a bit to agree to move us but then they did; to a room with a tub filled with......shaved body hair. Yes.
Asked like 4x for them to clean it and they didn't; they promised us additional FP's added to our MDE and when we went to use them none were there; stuff like that lol! Not funny at the time but luckily in our many trips since we've never had another experience like that and were even upgraded to the Roy Disney Suite at the GF once!

oday we head off to Animal Kingdom for its second day open.
Nice! I had friends there that day too :) Last week we found AK to be the most enjoyable park.
I have never done standby for this ride, so we were excited to see the theming.
Same, only did standby during the AP Pandora previews back in 2017 and breezed right through so it was neat to walk through again last week. Even nicer to again not have a wait!

After the Safari we walked toward the Lion King show area. The entire bridge is markers for FOP distancing, THE ENTIRE BRIDGE, that would be a horrible line.

Here’s the crowds...
50182305917_65e88e8b35_z.jpg

it was CRAZY!

We went to Lydia’s favorite AK ride, Kali River Rapids. This ride is more sentimental because, she was tall enough to ride it in 2011 and it was her most thrilling ride.

We stopped by the lockers and dropped off stuff we didn’t want to get wet. The line was walk on. They didn’t give us our own boat, there was a single gentleman with us, but he was across the boat from us. You must keep your mask on the entire ride.

50182047616_63b2ec1a85_z.jpg

Ummm..... we didn’t get wet AT ALL! It was so weird.

After our not so wet water ride, we collected our lockers, paused to Mobile order Satuli Canteen and walked back to Pandora.

50182047596_501b1588e1_z.jpg

We love Satuli Canteen. By the time we walked from Asia to Pandora our food was ready. I did snap this pic of FOP, the sign is hard to read, but it says 10 mins at 10:49 am!

50182305772_b04dd3d513_z.jpg

By the time we arrived our food was ready, you must show an attendant your phone with a ready order to be allowed inside. We grabbed the food and a nice socially distant table. They are very clearly marked and plentiful, though we opted for an early lunch at 11.

After lunch Lydia wanted to do a scavenger hunt in Harambe, it was $6.99 and available at a lot of stores in Harambe.

It was very, very hot at this point, Eric and Lindsay headed off to Everest, while the rest of us hunted for Lion King statues.

Some statues were harder to find than others, here are just a few of them.

At the end you get to choose a nice wooden magnet as seen in the pic above with the map. Lydia collects magnets from vacations, so this was a great use of $6.99.

I don’t have any Everest pics, because I wasn’t there, my family doesn’t takes pics 😂

But I grabbed this as we walked by to meet them after their ride.

We headed to a Dinoland for a whirl into the Jurassic age.
I snagged this pic of overall wait times.

Dinosaur was only 5 minutes when we arrived! We did not stop to see the intro video and then we were boarding our own Space Rover.

We were melting at this point, we grabbed a nice bench in the shade, we drank our waters and cooled off.

Lydia and I recuperated quickly and went for a spin. Oddly, I’ve never ridden this. They told us at the end that we could stay aboard if we wanted to go again, but we did not.

We saw a rare site, pin trading! It’s obviously not the easiest thing with COVID, but Disney did their best!
We grabbed Lindsay and checked out the board.

The procedure was this:
Step 1: explain to the CM (with no touching) the pin(s) you’d like.
Step 2: CM removes them with gloves
Step 3: they place them in a dish for you
Step 4: you place yours in a bin that needs sanitized
Step 5: you grab your new pins

We saw 3-5 boards over our trip.

We were pretty wiped at this point, but decided one more ride on the back of a banshee was in order. So back to Pandora we went!

We saw this beauty and her furry friend on our journey.

When we arrived FOP was walk on! Whoo hoo!

This time they fed us through the left side and for the first time ever I saw this guy.

We we’re off the ride at 2pm and we had ridden everything that was open, expect It’s Tough to be a Bug. So we headed back to cool down and rest up at BLT.

We still have dinner reservations at Sanaa at 6:50. We had planned to close the park and go to dinner, but the lack of lines and the heat, we called it a day and would drive back later to Kidani Village.
