You have some great information already:thumbsup2 I just wanted to add that as a couple you WILL be seated (for dinner) with other people (unless you request otherwise and then you still run a big risk of being seated with others--the smallese tables on the main dining room seat 4). It is fun meeting new people at dinner:goodvibes Anyway, as otehrs have said the odds are good you will like your tablemates even if you do nothing (and it is easy to change after the first night if you need to). However, another option is to get on the meet thread here on the DIS for your cruise. You may find another couple or family you "click" with on the thread and then you can ask them if the want to link reservations and dine together.

About shorts at dinner: I ahev seen shorts on adults once in a while during pirate night--but that is the only time I have seen it. Slacks and a polo would be fine-even on formal night (though I think guys look fabulous in a tux:rolleyes1).

Also, yes you can meet and make friends at the pool or at activites, etc. People with your same interests tend to be at all the same activitets and by the end of your first full day you will have made a couple of friends and find there is a core group you are recognizing.

Now for my number one tip on cruising! Every Disney room has two bathrooms, which is great cuz one person can be brushing their teeth and shaving while the other is in the shower. But when it comes to that personal thing you do in the bathroom, dont do that in the cabin! Take a little walk to the restrooms near the Walt Disney Theater, or near the Adult entertainment district. You will have the place to yourself during the day, and the ventelation is terrific if you know what I mean!

No need in having that....well.....odor......in your cabin! :thumbsup2
LOL Mike....this has been a PSA of yours before.....guess you are pretty adamant about it!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

The two of us did the 4 day Wonder and we never felt anything but welcome.

Can't answer about the clubs, as we weren't dancing, but don't think it would have been a problem. We did Palo at both dinner and brunch as well hung out in areas such as the adult pool, Serenity Bay, the spa rain forest room and everyone was very friendly and couldn't be nicer

As for Orlando Mike's comments....We learned that on our first cruise (non Disney) and have to agree. I was laughing when I read his post.

To echo the many others...I wouldn't worry about travelling as a gay couple without kids on a disney cruise.

We've done two cruises, one disney and one on another cruiseline. The first one (other cruiseline) was our honeymoon which we had indicated on just about every form imaginable. But, we had to keep putting our beds back together ourselves and remaking it because we couldn't get the cabin steward to understand that we wanted them that way--I mean, even if you ignore the "honeymoon" info shouldn't the fact that the beds had been returned to queen-bed configuration 3-4 times a day been a clue?! On the disney cruise we took the beds started separated when we arrived, but, our cabin steward was around looking for us and asked whether we wanted them pushed together. He then fixed them for us by the time we returned from our first foray around the ship.

As for activities, the adult-only beach (which had several kids, btw) was a nice touch and we never felt like the action was centred on kids or families. Rather, like all things disney we felt like there was a concerted effort to make activities welcoming of all types of family configurations (all adults, many children, etc.).

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

    MORE CRUISE QUESTIONS:

Did you have to sit with other assigned couples during dining plans, and how did that go for you traveling alone couples? I am afraid I will be sitting next to someone not so approving of me and Jay? I am not sure we would get our own table, and I am hoping it isn't like this so tiny a table for two minature adults in a room full of tables for 4 to 8 people. I wish I was more minature in size, but that is another story about dieting before grand vacations.

Jay and I are really big Cargo and Surfboard Shorts people, other than at the Palo did you really wear pants or jeans to the night time restaurants.

For the guys, Did you rent tuxedos on board for the formal night, wear suits, or bring just a Dinner Jacket for those nights. I think the 7 night cruises have a formal night.

    Thanks Everyone,

    Phil
If you feel uncomfortable with your table mates just speak to your serving host. Their job is to make you comfortable and have a great cruise. On one trip my partner and I ended up at an 8 top table that was all kids (their parents were at the 8 top next to it). We had our first night meal with them talking but had our server relocate us for the rest of the cruise to a 4 top that we were the only people at.

Palo is the only restaurant with a dress code. All others suggest wear on like the Captain's night but is not required.

And we always bring our tuxedos on the cruise for Captain's night, otherwise we don't dress up for any other night.

I haven't read every post but I highly recomend that you join the cruise meet thread for the cruise you decide to take. You will have an opportunity to meet the other DISER and some will be adult only cuisers. Some may even be open and out gay couples. On one of my last cruises we linked our dining with 3 other couples and had an awesome time.

I have been on 7 cruises and have always been out to the dining staff ( as well as the cruise meet folk) and have always felt welcomed and accepted.

We have been on 4 DCL cruisese.....the 1st was just the 2 of us in 1999. Even just 10 years ago it was a different time. We have always been out, just not "in your face" out. That 1st cruise we were seated with and elderly couple from UK.....VERY nice, and never batted an eye.

We did have to ask the Stewart to put the twin beds together. LOL:goodvibes But, he really didn't bat an eye.

We did get strange looks at the spa when we did the mud bath thing together....the girl gave us a look and said something like "you have to rub the mud all over each other" as a question, not a statement. We just said "ya, we know." LOL

The last 3 cruises we have had ZERO issues.

    So would Mike!

OMG! What a great idea for teevee show! :rotfl2:

The Plain Ole Head and Shrek Show! Can you imagine the theme song? :lmao:

And they could set the show up on a Cruise Boat!
In my head the theme song was the Mr. Potato head song from the commercials of my youth :confused3

It's Mr. Potatohead and his bucket of parts, buckets of fun for everyone :dance3:

Ok, so I chose the tune, someone else can write the lyrics.

Someone's kid came into the adult pool area to talk to her mother when we were on the Magic and it reminded me of a low-level Monsters Inc. moment, when Dot is spotted and everyone panics. We all froze and stared at the child for the 2 minutes she was there, then relaxed when she left. It made me laugh...and appreciate how well the adults-only area is maintained.

PHILCT - You have gotten lots of good answers from the others. :thumbsup2 We have cruised as a childless gay couple on Disney and will continue to do so. We love DCL - everything everyone says is true! It's awesome!:cheer2:

Hadley - Looks like we will just miss you - we're on the Magic back to back on the 12th and 19th...couldn't pass up the chance to have Christmas Day on Castaway Cay. :santa: :cool2:

Erik & Jason - jealous of the back to back you have planned next year. We're on the last Northern European Capitals in July...had to spread out the vacation days next year - one of us is having a big b-day and are doing 10 days at WDW in the fall to celebrate. I am sure you'll enjoy!! :wizard:

We just booked back to back for the west coast LA/Vancouver and the first Alaska cruise. Probably not that many kids on those since it's during/right before exam & test season. Yee ha!

@tig82174: My partner and I have been on 6 DCL cruises so far and will be on the 14 night Westbound Transatlantic in September. We're pretty shy ourselves, but maybe we'll get a chance to meet you guys. I can't wait for this cruise!

I'll echo the remarks of those who are in support of being a gay with no kids family/couple on a DCL cruise. My hubby and I will ONLY cruise on DCL cruises....and we do one almost annually. We just did a 4 night on the Wonder in May which, ironically, was the podcast cruise---although we hadn't planned it that way on purpose. That was our 5th cruise with DCL in the past 4 years. Our next one is a back to back trip next year in September we're doing the last 10-night Mediterranean and then the westbound TransAtlantic----24 nights of the Magic, baby!!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 We love DCL cruises. We NEVER feel out of place----and oddly, we're not even all that active in the "adult" stuff on board. Neither of us drinks and the adult night clubs are really not our thing. We do enjoy some of the adult things like the adult programming like games, lectures/tours, we love the adult pool, the spa, etc......but mostly we just adore the cruise, the shows, the total DCL experience. The staff are always fantastic to us. We have never ended up being the only gay couple on the cruise (although we don't necessarily befriend other gay couples onboard cuz we're shy....and just as happy to be with each other)...so we've never felt isolated or alienated.

I say go for it....you'll certainly be glad you did!!

Regted1, the WBTA will be our 7th cruise on DCL as well. There's a huge thread over on the meets board (we're into our 6th thread continuation). Come over and say hello to the folks over there. I've traveled with a few of them before and they're great folk. It is a larger group than normal but don't let that scare ya!

We don't have children and we took our honeymoon on a DCL 7-day cruise and had a BLAST! The cast members and (most) of the other guests were fine. There are always a few people who try to use their kids as an excuse to push past folks without kids, but I usally call them on it as I do in the parks (with a civil tongue and very directly).

We chose DCL because we (A) really love Disney and (B) wanted a cruise without a casino. Have fun!

    Hey there!!

Thank goodness I'm bored at work and happened to just be sifting through the LGBT boards----because I think I unsuscribed to this thread when it went so inactive back in late 2009....so it's lucky I happened to see it again and read your post.

How fabulous that you'll be on the cruise with us....My hubby and I are definitely aboard for the WBTA in September (we're actually doing the B2B so we're doing the last 10-night Med cruise and the WBTA...and we're doing the Adventures by Disney add-on package on the Med cruise, too----so it's the vacation of a lifetime for us!).

I see that M4travels has already invited you over to the official cruise thread for the WBTA....but let me further reinforce that invitation! The current version of the thread (we're on PART 6---we've been going on the thread for so long and people are so chatty that we've already filled up and closed 5 threads and are working on our sixth!!) can be found here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2472684

Come on over and join us there and introduce yourself. Post #1 on the thread has lots of information about the group and all the events that are being planned, etc. (I'm actually in charge of our DIS group's custom lanyards aboard the ship....so if you want some free fun lanyards so you'll be able to identify the other DISers cruising, send me a PM and let me know!!).

I have actually cruised with quite a few of the folks who are on the thread and will be on the ship with us---and there are some really great single cruisers, couples (both gay and not) and families from all over the country and the world....they're a fun and lively bunch. Jason and I are sure we're going to have a great time---and we'd love for you to join the fun!!

Larger group than normal? Heck no! ;) You've clearly been on the wrong cruises, Michael!! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I don't think our group for the WBTA is larger than normal....seems pretty much par for the course for cruises that Jason and I have done. :thumbsup2

On the EBTA in 2007 (which was our first cruise where we found the DIS), I know that Ken distributed lanyards to over 300 people from the thread....a little over a year later I was in charge of lanyards on a fall Double Dip cruise we took and we did about 260 lanyards.....and, as you know, I'm doing the lanyards for this trip and we already have about 225 people on the lanyard list (and that's not even everyone from the thread!)......honestly, the DIS has become one of our favorite things about cruising with DCL---the more the merrier!! We did a cruise in May 2009 with my parents and my niece (our 40th anniversary gift to my parents) and because we were traveling with family and because it was, just by ironic chance, also the podcast cruise...we didn't to the DIS for that cruise at all.....and while we still had an amazing time because we were with family and, well, it WAS DCL after all :-)lmao:)....it was definitely different not to feel like you already "knew" some of the other cruisers!

So, Michael (and Marc) you'll have to start booking all your cruises with us in the future! :rotfl2:

Just read the first page of your cruise thread tig82174-
    And let me just say...
You guys are certified FREAKS! :rotfl2:
And I mean that in a good way -
    More power to ya! ;)

We're a bit more laid back on our DCL adventures.
