My apologies if this is old news, but it was new to me when I found out this afternoon.

I was listening to the current episode of WDW Radio, and Lou was interviewing all the "Dads" on the current Disney Moms panel. During the interview, one of the Dads, Jonas, mentioned that he and his husband were raising two boys. I went to his page on the Disney Moms Panel website, on which he gives some more details about his family and their love for Disney.

While I'm pretty sure that Jonas' sexual identity doesn't directly come into play all that often in his work on the Moms panel, I was also pleased to hear that Disney recognizes that there are all kinds of Disney fans and Disney families that deserve representation.

That is awesome! :thumbsup2

I applied the first year they had the panel, and so did LOTS of my friends. NONE of us made the cut to Round 2, which was fascinating because we live all over the country, have different numbers and ages of kids, etc. What we noticed was that none of the people who were chosen had high post counts on the DIS, nobody who owned DVC was chosen, it seemed like they were looking for people who really didn't already have a huge knowledge base.

The next time they took applications I didn't bother. But I am glad that there is some diversity to the panel!

Same here 'girl. ::yes:: My wife sent in for me! LOL. Not chosen though. No matter.

Thank you OP, for the link! It's great of Disney to recognize and honor all families. I think his description of himself, his family and his husband is about as mainstream as you can get!

Very good to hear. SO true, families are all different and unique, so the panel needs to reflect that! ;)

We followed the panel pretty closely so we knew about Jonas, and I do think it's very cool. DP was a finalist for the 2009 panel (final 31) and a semi-finalist (made the cut of 500) in 2010. We're hoping for 2011 if they do it again.

    Hi all:

A couple of fellow moms panelists directed me to this thread. Glad to know there is support for a gay parent on the moms panel on the boards. In the beginning, I was wondering if I would encounter any negative responses. But everyone has been great, including Disney and my fellow panelists. I'm glad to know you all are supportive too.

Ironically enough - now that you've found me, today is my last day on the panel. Some of the parents on the moms panel, including me, were only retained for a quarter of the year. I had such a blast on the panel, I hope to return next year for at least a quarter.

Good luck to anyone trying out for the panel next year.

PS - thank you for listening to us on Lou's podcast. I'm sure I'm not alone with this feeling, but I can't stand to listen to my recorded voice, so I haven't listened to the podcast. I hope I sounded ok!

Hi Jonas. Welcome. It's a great group here. Glad you had a good time on the panel. So they're doing it in quarters for the part-timers, I thought it'd be 1/2 year. That 3 months must've flown by.

Thank you for the warm welcomes.

The whole experience was really a dream come true. I got to meet a lot of great people on the panel, and help a lot of great people plan their disney vacations. Who doesn't love talking about Disney?

I was really nervous to meet the fellow moms. Everyone was really great to me.
