Good Tours?

We're coming to LA for a mix of site seeing and Disneyland. One day will be Universal and thus we'll also have 3 days to do other things. We're coming with our kids who will be 12 and 8 when we travel.

Are there any tours or tour company's that you recommend? I saw a neat one from Starline Tours that mixes city tour and star homes, but there seems like so many options that it's hard to tell what is a good one (will be interesting but won't bore our kids).

I love escorted tours when travelling. I don't have much time, so looks for tours to save time.

I signed up for a StarLine combo tour based on the hotel recommendation as it included pickup... LA, Homes and Beach.

Only complaint.... I was the only passenger for the afternoon Beach tour segment... so StarLine suddenly cancelled it. While they refunded my money, I was kinda bummed.

When I got back to the hotel.... I started to look for last minute alternatives.... then discovered walking tours. http://www.dtlawalkingtours.com/ They have several tours throughout the day and I enjoyed the history and education about the downtown core. Walking tours may be great for me (they take you places the StarLine does not).... but may be too strenuous for young kids. No reservations really needed, I just looked up where the meeting spot was and a dozen people showed up for the walk.

Looking at the walking tour schedule, the guide operates four 90-minute walking tours a day with different segments. Great if you want to rack up your fitbit steps!

it depends on how much money you have

Since there are 4 of us and we'll be spending 4 days at Disney plus a day at Universal plus other LA things (plus flying from Ontario, Canada), we are on a budget. So something good but reasonable (so no more than say $75 pp)

xlxo, thanks for the link to the tour your took. It looks like a good mix of things. That's too bad that the beach part got cancelled.
DH and I would be good with a walking tour, but not sure about with our kids.

The thing about walking tours....
  • no reservations required as there are no seats on a bus. It's there if it fits your schedule all day. Just show up at the meeting points announced on the website. Very flexible.
  • you don't need to do all four segments. if the kids get tired after the first 90 minute segment.... just quit and/or skip the remaining segments.
  • Starline and other bus tours would quick drive through the downtown neighborhoods. The walking tour allows you to savior the history and experience more slowly

O

This tour is exactly what I am looking for, except I need it to pick up from my hotel across from DL. Any ideas for this type of tour that picks up in Anaheim? I've looked into Anaheim tour company but they do not have one that includes all of these stops.

I recommend contacting your hotel for tour ideas and operators for Anaheim pickup.
