Groundbreaking Ceremony Celebrates Hong Kong Disneyland Expansion

To celebrate a significant step in the expansion of Hong Kong Disneyland, a groundbreaking ceremony was held today at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. John Tsang, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, and Jay Rasulo, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts officiated the ceremony with representatives from the Government, The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong community in attendance.

Two of the three themed areas, “Grizzly Gulch” and “Mystic Point,” will be exclusive to HKDL for the first five years after their respective openings. The third, “Toy Story Land,” will be exclusive within Asia for the first five years after opening.

So interesting to note that Grizzly Trail has been renamed Grizzly Gulch, and that both Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Point will will be exclusive for the first five years after opening. Toy Story Land will also be exclusive but only in Asia as another version of the land is in construction for the Studios in Paris.

One can see some ground work being done on the huge empty space just next to Disneyland in Hong Kong. Looked like they where eavening out the ground or something. I could be wrong. When it comes to the expansion of Disneyland itself, not much at all is going on.

I wouldn't worry to much, the construction is taking place behind Adventureland, so it shouldn't have much of an impact on your visit. Except for maybe a few visable sights like cranes. For a good view of construction be sure to check out Tarzan's Treehouse.
