Looking for something unique to do like visit a taping for a show or some other unique things. Any suggestions?

Check with your hotel - are you downtown, mid-town, or uptown
NYC - Manhattan is very large.

During the day there are site seeing tours most likely from your hotel

Taping of shows in NYC = https://theculturetrip.com/north-america/usa/new-york/articles/8-tv-show-tapings-to-attend-in-nyc/

The statue of liberty is downtown

The NY public library is mid-town

Many museums are in NY - The Guggenheim in New York has one of the finest collections of modern art in the world - also mid-town https://www.guggenheim.org/

Liberty Cruise
An express cruise to the Statue of Liberty and back from our midtown pier. Plus spectacular views of the NYC skyline and dozens of landmarks along the way.

The Cloisters Museum
The Cloisters is a museum in Fort Tryon Park in Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York City, specializing in European medieval architecture, sculpture and decorative arts, with a focus on the Romanesque and Gothic period

When are you going to be visiting NYC? Shakespeare In The Park begins their 2019 season on May 21.

Google up Trapeze School New York. Fun way to spend a morning or afternoon right by the water!

NY is big - but once you say you are from NY - everyone thinks NYC -
So either you are 120 miles north or east of NYC
Maybe up by Albany - or what about Schenectady ?
I bet most people who do not live in NY would not know where it is.
We are a very long train ride to NYC - not comfortable, unless you like long train rides :)

Taking my 14 year old in a few weeks.....we are going to hit a matinee Broadway Show (she's a theater geek), do the new exhibit at the Lower Eastside Tenement Museum, go to the National Geographic Ocean Odyssey and check out the Harry Potter Coffee Bar- Steamy Hollows (it's a pop-up shop for just a few months). We'll probably head up to Columbia (my alma mater) to update our sweatshirt collection and grab a slice of Koronet Pizza while we are there....

We used to live in NYC (before kids).....but my teen only gets there occasionally. I got tickets for a Seinfeld show for Christmas and when she realized a trip to NYC was in the works, she charmed her way into tagging along (she'll be at the hotel when my husband and I go to the Seinfeld show).

Anyway...that's our plan!

Search the forum. This subject comes up repeatedly; there are many old threads with lots of info.

If interested in museums, be advised that the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) will be closed for renovation this year from the middle of June through October.

Check. Goldstar.com. They have lots of discounted tickets to the more obscure stuff. Take note of location though some might be in outer boroughs.

If the BEAST boat ride is running I would suggest it. Lots of fun. Only 30 minutes and gets very close to the Statue of Liberty.

Ride the Roosevelt island tram. Just the cost of metro card swipe.

Stop by grand central for the whispering wall just to say you did it.

Maybe a food/walking tour We did one through the village many years ago that was informative.

Time out NY is also another source for things going on in the city

I liked the tour of the United Nations Headquarters.
