Height questions

I'm 5' and my DH is 6'1. To the surprise of all of us, our DS topped out at 5'1 and it has had a terrible impact on his self-image. He said to me once "No woman will ever want me because I'm short". It broke my heart.

Your son is perfect the way he is, he will find the right woman for him.

I am 5’6

My daughter is just a tad over 5’ and she hates it, “oh sorry didnt see you down there” is common comment she gets. She can never find pants to fit properly.

She mastered high heals really fast, but still feels short.

I just tell her of a quote I once read

“God only lets us grow till we reach perfection,
Some of us reach perfection faster than others”

She said that one day to someone who was giving her a hard time about being short, they stopped, looked at her, thought for a moment, then realised what it meant and walked away quite red faced.

She was over the moon, “short people power” won that one that day.

I'm 5'0", although the doctor's office lately keeps trying to tell me I'm slightly under that. I don't think I'm old enough to be shrinking yet? My sister is even shorter than me by an inch or two and my mom is also tiny. My husband is 5'11". My son is getting worried because he's one of the shortest kids in his class. A neighborhood boy who is half his age is already the same height he is! I hope he ends up close to DH's height when he's done growing.

I have a hard time with some clothes. I can't sew, so finding pants that fit me in the length is a pain. They say "petite" clothes are supposed to be for heights 5'4" and under but that's not reality. Most of them are built for 5'4" women exactly and therefore are 4 inches too long on me. Capris come to my ankles and just look like too short pants. I try to find clothes in the juniors section sometimes. I also have a short torso, so I'm glad that one piece bathing suits aren't the only options anymore. I'd find one that fit me in the hips but then the shoulder straps would come up to my ears! Thank goodness for two-piece bathing suits!

I'll admit that being this short causes lots of frustrations. When buying a car I had to eliminate some models completely because even on the highest setting, my feet still couldn't reach the pedals. Same thing when I went to buy an exercise bike. Probably 75% of the models I researched didn't adjust enough to fit me.

My daughter can totally sympathise with you, she is just a tad over 5’, she finds she is not “petite” enough for “petite” clothes too. She has become a master tailor.

Oh and buying a car, WOW i never realised just how hard it would be, lowering the seat and moving it as far forward as it would go, jamming the steering wheel into her chest, just to reach the pedals meant she couldn’t see over the bonnet, but she persevered and she finally ended up with a Mazda 2 Hatch, fits her perfectly.

I’m 5’4”. I’ve always liked my height. Never felt short, never felt tall.

My husband is 5’7”(those Italian genes lol) and he’s never minded. He’s very self confident and doesn’t care that he’s short.

Our 18 year old daughter is 5’6”
Our son is 5’10”. He wants to be 6’ badly, but I think at 16, he’s done growing. My dad is 6’4” , so I guess there’s a chance he has a couple more inches, but I doubt it.

I’m 5’5” and my DH is 5’8” “on a good day”. Think he is more like 5’7” and a 1/2. DD15 is 5’3” and has stopped growing we think (she is NOT happpy about this by my DH’s sister is only 5’1” so I think she is done). DS14 is 5’7” and DS11 is about 4’11”.

I am 5'11 and a half, husband is 6'. My big joke is that I am both taller and shorter then him. It all depends on which leg he leans on. His left leg is an inch shorter than his right :). I have always enjoyed my height, it does have its advantages. It perfect for me, I am tall but not too tall that I have to worry about shower heads and stuff.

My DD17 is about 5'7 and has stopped growing for a few years now. She is not happy about it at all. She favours my mom in many, many ways.
DS14 is half inch shorter than me. He is build like my brother, my guess he will be about 6'3 or 4.
My dad is Croatian and we have a lot of trees on his side of the family. Most of the men are in the 6'5 range or even taller. The women are about 6'2, so a bit shorter.
DS8 is built more like his father. I suspect he will top out at 6 or maybe a bit shorter.

I'm 5'4" It is not something I put a lot of thought into. Most of the time I am okay with it. When I am trying to reach something on a high shelf I wish I was a few inches taller.

I am 6'4" and my wife is 6"0". We're both pretty athletic. Its great for my wife, she wears 4" heels sometimes and turns a lot of heads. We get a lot of comments from others.

The kids are young, 8,6,4, and 4. Hard to tell about their height, but the boys are trending tall. The girls are as well, but not as much. My 8 year old is nearing in on 5', so I'm sure he'll be pretty tall.

I always loved being tall.

Thanks @amberpi , @J'aime Paris and @MinnieLovesMickey . :flower3: As adults, we all know that, but finding a girlfriend notwithstanding, his distorted and deeply-critical view of himself is very concerning. Sorry to go so far :offtopic: here but this is right at the top of my mind lately. I've just finished watching Season 2 of 13 Reasons Why and if it's even half-accurate in it's portrayal of the silent despair that hangs over this generation like a specter, and how completely hidden they can keep their emotional lives, well, let me just say I'm troubled - deeply troubled. :(

I can't really imagine what it would be like to be taller though. I hate heels and have really sensitive feet, so I'm pretty much stuck being short. :p

I'm 5'1" but I wish I was at least 5'5". If I were taller, maybe I wouldn't look like a hobbit - I have VERY short legs (my inseam is only 26") and linebacker shoulders. Petite length pants are too long (and I have to go a size up because they're cut smaller all over anyway), and I have to buy shirts a size up in order to fit my broad shoulders. Maybe I'd be more in proportion if I had a few more inches on me.

DH is 5'9"-ish. He thinks he's 5'8", but his sister is 5'8" and he's a tad taller than her.

Our 2 1/2-year-old son is a little over 3' now. He was conceived with the help of an egg donor, who was 5'11", so he's projected to be 6' by 18 years old :)
I have short legs too. Petite clothes are frustrating because I find them to be wider, and more boxy than the regular sizes. I have found that the Old Navy Rockstar super skinny jeans (regular, not petite) in the cropped length are perfect full length jeans on me.

I have 2 friends who have been killing it in them for years...they’re both like 5’2, portionate, and roughly probably size 10. They are the only people that I know that can make it work - and dang are they cute. I hate being kept from an entire clothing style involuntarily. I mean, I mostly hate pants, but that’s on me.
Nope. Not for me. I have tried a million rompers on. They are not flattering on me what so ever ... I think I'm pretty proportionate, but with my thicker legs it's a no-go.

I’m just about 5’8” and Dh is just under me. I wish I was a little shorter because of clothes and he wishes he was taller. My family is on the taller side and his runs on the shorter side. My ds 21 just got measured at the drs last week and he was just under 6’1 and my dd19 topped out at 5’3. She wants to be taller but she stopped growing a long time ago. When she was young she was on the tall side but hit puberty early. My son is fine with his height.

As a few mentioned - I don’t know how some clothes are so short on my dd (dresses/skirts/shorts.) It must be pretty hard for taller girls.

I am 5'4" and DH is 5'10". However my brother is 6'4" so i have height in my genes. And my DS-21 is 5'11" and my twin DDs-19 are just shy of 5'9". I am okay with my height as is DS and DH. But DDs actually wished they were taller. Since they play a college sport and height is a plus.

ronandannette, please feel free to PM me!
I have only the last episode to watch of Season 2 of 13 reasons...and I'm dreading it from what I've heard.
I have a 19 year old DD, and this show has certainly been a conversation starter.
Being a young adult today is definitely more difficult to navigate than during our time!!!

How tall are you? Do you like the height you are? Your partner or kids? I have friends were she is 6'1 and he's probably 5'7 and they're perfect together.

For my part, I'm a boring 5'4-5'5 and always wished I was a bit taller. My DH is just shy of 6' and says he would have liked to have cleared it. He projects taller. My ex was the opposite, quite tall and projected not as much. Any of you have kids that are taller than you are?

Ok Amber, I've guess I've been off the boards for a little bit. I thought it was a short time, but I think it was longer than I realized... you got married??????

My sister has been sending her 14 year old to a specialist since he was 8. They measured his bones every 6 months, and predicted he’d be over 6’ like his dad. At his most recent visit, they noticed his grown plates have shortened, and at best he’d top out at 5’8”. He’s been having some invasive testing and will most likely get hormone treatments.

Dd17 was rarely even on the charts for height, but I didn’t bother testing her, she’s a girl and we have very short people on both sides of the family. We were so surprised when she grew 4 inches and gained 20 pounds in 1 year. However, we totally failed on her scoliosis diagnosis at 16, 45 degrees both ways.

I'm 5'8....I'm good with it, but growing up it was too tall.
DH is 6'4"
DS is 6'5"
DD is 5'10"
My family is almost the same as yours.
I'm 5'7
DH 6'5
DS 6'5
DD 5'10 (All her friends are little petite girls, so she feels like a GIANT compared to them. Pictures of her friend group are really funny. She had a big complex about towering over the boys in middle school before the boys grew.)

I’m 5’5”. My husband is 5’2”. (Before him the shortest guy I dated was 5’11”) He also felt that he would never get married, and was rejected numerous times because of his height. And I thank God for that every day because he was the kindest, most considerate man I had ever dated and still is.

It’s difficult for a young man, especially when dealing with some of the cruel and insensitive comments thrown at them by some women and surprisingly a lot of men. My husband dealt with this by developing a quick, and when necessary, cutting wit. People rarely come after him more than once, and as a bonus, he’s one of the funniest people I know.

It saddens me to hear that your son is hurting because of this. We put such importance on arbitrary physical attributes rather than what really determines what a man is. I hope your son can grow to realize that he can have the future he hopes for, regardless of his height.
