This was kind of buried in David Koenig's Disneyland reopening (part 2) post from 9/28/20, but I think it deserved its own thread. For those of you who are big history buffs and are very interested in the original landowners who voted for annexation into Anaheim and sold their properties to Walt Disney in 1953 and 1954 (i.e. Dominguez family, Vandenberg family, etc...), David Koenig is hosting a photo-filled reading (virtually)

VIRTUAL: NEA Big Read - The First Families of Disneyland

Tuesday, October 6, 2020
David Koenig will take you back to the Magic Kingdom before there was a Magic Kingdom. You’ll discover the fascinating families who sold their Anaheim ranches and orchards to Disney in 1953 and 1954—and what became of their homes.
David Koenig is a journalist and author of “Mouse Tales: A Behind-the-Ears at Disneyland" and “The 55ers: The Pioneers Who Settled Disneyland."

The Anaheim Public Library is one of 78 nonprofit organizations to receive the NEA Big Read grant. An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read aims to broaden our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of reading one book. The NEA Big Read library programs are also generously funded by Altrusa International of Anaheim, Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim, the Anaheim Public Library Foundation, the Friends of the Anaheim Public Library, and the Friends of the Canyon Hills Public Library.
