How did you decide about a WISH trip?

My son is 4 and was diagnosised with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in the late fall. I had been thinking about requesting a WISH trip to GKTW next summer (2012). Our specialist even mentioned about taking a WISH trip.

My son loves Disney. We have been and are going in a few weeks as well. My husband hates Disney. No way around it he really does not like it. However, he has promised the kids that when they were a little older he would go with them.

Now here is the problem. My son has limited communication. I know that he would love to go to Disney, visit SeaWorld and Universal (neither of which we have been to) and enjoy GKTW, while spending time with their dad.

My husband says that we should wait until he is older. I say we need to go next year while he is very mobile, while my daughter still enjoys Disney and some of it can be about her and her patience with all of what we are doing with her brother, and we need to make this the family trip that my husband has been promising the kids.

I guess I am just a little conflicted on what to do. I just wanted to get others opinions on how they decided when to take their trip.

I read the Wish Trippers thread and the trip reports and know that we would have so much fun!

Thanks!
Kristi

Just remember that this is your son's wish. It's really not about his sister or Dad, and I'm not saying that to be mean -it's just really why wishes are granted to start with. Since you have already been to WDW, if your son can express himself, you might want to start with thinking of lots of options and let him choose. Perhaps a DCL cruise might be something different, yet have the familiar "Disney" experience. I agree to do it before he experiences mobility challenges, but if you feel that he'd enjoy a trip more if he's older and able to express himself better, then he'll still have fun no matter when you choose to go.---Kathy

I am very biased.....

Because GKTW is such a magical place and the only way he can go there is on a Disney wish trip (and not a cruise)...

GKTW was one of the reasons that Lauren chose Disney - they had wanted to go to Disney already, but GKTW really "sealed the deal"...and now they can go back to GKTW at any time as a former wish family.

Having said that - I totally agree that this is his wish. He may want to meet a famous person or have a room makeover (ok, probably not)...what is he "into"...does he like a certain sport? The sky is the limit on wish trips (not in expense, but in creativity) and I would hate to see him limit himself by not thinking outside the box.

Lauren loved her trip - but she has also said that she wished she had considered meeting the Jonas Brothers or something like that - and we didn't really look into any of those that much.
