If you could pick just one....

Would you pick VB in September or VB in May? Is there any difference? I think Sept would have more rain but I am guessing. Thanks for any opinions!

Lisa

We have not been to VB before, but we have been to WDW in both May and Sept.

In September you run the risk of hurricanes! Last year Hurricane Gordon hit (we were in orlando for all the rain) and the year before that was Hurricane Floyd which caused Disney to actually close the parks for a day (except Animal Kingdom -- in case you get a trivia question on it someday).

September is also hotter and more humid. I believe they are also rehabbing the VB pool this September so that may be an issue.

On the other hand, September is less busy than May and may be easier to book at the 7 month window if that is a concern for you.

All things considered I would personally choose May.

LisaR:

I think I remember from the "who''s from Michigan" post you and I hail from this great state so:

Depends:

If you want to extend your much-too-short Michigan summer and put off the inevitable miserable Michigan winter for a week---then go in September.

If you want to escape the last grasps of winter "early" (39F at my house this morning), then go in May!

My vote is for early May (first); late September (second).

If you're not from Michigan, I apologize. (It's obvious I don't work for the "Vacation in Michigan" promotional company)

Trudy, your post made me laugh! ;) As a fellow Michigander, I hear ya! Well, Lisa, we were also at WDW last Sept when the hurricane hit, and it wasn't fun!! It rained for our ENTIRE stay at the GF. While I still managed to have a great time, it would have been nice to see some sunshine. On the other hand, DH and I were just at VB in May (last week) and it was WONDERFUL!!! We did not have one day of rain, PLUS although it was warm, it was wayyyyyy less humid!! And although heat is great, humidity makes me cranky (frizzy hair, running eyeliner, etc...) LOL! ;)

I never would have voted for May in the past, but after this last trip, I say do it!! And you know what? The crowds at VB were close to NOTHING. It was a much slower time than I had anticipated--I thought it would be packed. But it wasn't. It was a great way to vacation at the resort!! Hope this helps!!

:D

I have been there in both May and in September. I feel that they are VERY similar. There was just as much rain in May as there was when we were there in September. The best part of September is that the points are less and the crowds are less.
May is a great time to go, but this year was EXTREMELY windy.
I loved September too!
I think it is a matter of preference. We also booked both of them less than 7 months before!
Here is a link to my VB trip report from this May.
Hope it helps!

Whenever you go, you will love it! :)
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Trudy Z, prncessjas and Kamgen,

Thanks my fellow Michiganians for the responses. We should really try to arrange a Michigan meet. Prncessjas, we also live in Dearborn!

Thanks to everyone who responded to the post. Our decision is as follows:

WDW this September

WDW in January

VB in May

We'll give it a try and see how we like it!

Thanks again,

Lisa

From Livonia!;)

My wife, in-laws and myself went to VB last September and the weather was BEAUTIFUL!

Mid 80's and sunny every day!

We have also been to WDW three times in early October and have had nothing but great weather, a little hot for a day here and there, but that gives us time to enjoy the pool!

Perhaps all of us from Michigan should pool our points to go to Vero and vacate Michigan entirely during the winter?? Of course, here in Michigan with the way the weather is; may have to cover all 52 weeks!

Hey Mickey1010:

Livonia is half way between Dexter and Dearborn--let Rima, Lisa and I know when the DVC party at your house is;)

Kamy, you'll just have to haul yourself up 275!

Trudy

Captain Midnight,

I would like to personally invite you to join us in VB for our Michigan meet. Look for me, I will be in Green and White and my Dh will be in Maize and Blue. We will be standing near the deep end of the pool. But don't worry, you'll be safe. We would never push in someone who makes fun of our teams! Honest!!:D

If all things are equal, I would choose May because there is always the chance of a big storm giving you 3 or 4 days of really bad weather in September. It probably won't happen but there is virtually no chance of a hurricane skirting by in May. We were forced to leave Daytona Beach a couple years ago in mid September when Floyd came up the coast. Actually went and stayed at Port Orleans for the night before flying out the next day. It can happen.

Captain Midnight:

Don't worry, "they" ( U of M) haven't got to me yet. I am a PA/OH transplant, so I cheer for Joe and those Nittany Lions. Since my alma mater, those verocious Penguins of YSU don't play them!;)

The best part is that I actually work for "them", I can look out my office window and see "the Big House".....
