Arrived home on Friday morning. Qantas A380, ontime.

So after having heaps of probs getting my photos uploaded, I finally have half a trip report. This is the first few days between arriving and the last night in Las Vegas.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2450279

Over the next day I'll write the DL part.

Here are some random notes....

The service in the USA is a million times better than at home. With the exception of Hertz. Well, not only with the Hertz service, but their cars, and all.

The Warner Bros tour is brilliant, and I recommend it. There are no rides, etc, just a working movie studio. It goes for about 2 1/2 hours. No photos inside. No videos at all.

The most we paid for a sit down meal, according to my credit card statement was about AU$140 at Outback Steakhouse. Included tax, tip, fancy drink for me and MIL, desert. There were 3 adults and 1 child. Most other sit down meals using the above formula were about $100-$120.

Meal portions are generally huge. The only time when a children's meal wasn't sufficient for DD was at Bubba Gump's in Anaheim. DD had children's fish and chips, I had the full version. I gave her a couple of pieces off my plate. Very nice though.

Yellow cabs in LA and Anaheim make Sydney cabs and their drivers look good. This happened on multiple times, not just one. Stories to follow when I'm less jet-lagged. The green independants were better.

The ART bus drivers change over around 3.20pm. Almost guaranteed a bus at that time without a wait. But if ARTing, make sure at least one person in your group lines up. The Homewood where we stayed had it's own shuttle, but in the end we preferred ART. Go figure!!!

Target is a dangerous place for your purse and will strip you from your money very quickly. I think I spent about $500 there, on STUFF :scared1: The purpose of the luggage department of Target Garden Grove is to supply Australians and Kiwi's with extra luggage. Each time I went back to buy more luggage (3 times) I met other Aussies doing the same. We went over with 4 bags between us, and came home with 8.

Driving for DH was really easy. I couldn't do it. Just sitting in the front seat of the car made me so nervous. DH said that he would recommend driving to any Aussie as the roads are really easy and drivers are courteous, but would recommend driving to yanks coming to Australia.

You need to pay for petrol first. And the pay at pumps didn't accept either mine, DH's or MIL credit cards. So you go in and give them, say $50 and the bowser number, they give you a receipt. Fill the car, then go back in and get your change. Everywhere else accepted all cards.

Even the supermarkets in Las Vegas have poker machines.

Circus Circus has low limit tables, so if you do want to gamble, it's pretty cheap and if you get a good dealer like we did, they teach you to play. You have to tip the dealer. For non-smokers, it can be a shock. But you can be lucky and find a table where no one is smoking.

Churros at DL are now $3.50. :scared1: Coke $3. But everything else is cheap.

If you buy a case of water and keep it in the hotel room remember to take it with you to the parks :rolleyes1

Fairy Floss is Cotton Candy, and when you are tired and can't remember it's cotton candy, using "the pink fluffy stuff" will work :rotfl2:

I'll post some more notes as I think of more...

WELCOME HOME!!!
I hope you brought back some cooler weather with you :woohoo:

TOTALLY agree! I was planning to go again this last trip but couldn't give up any Disney time for it :rolleyes1

This is why we drive. The only place I ever get a cab is in NYC.

This is why we just take the total number suitcases with us (with some empty)...no point wasting Disney time at Target

Wise Man
You are like my mum...I am like your husband.
I was really getting used to driving in the US (even on LA freeways) and then I came back to Sydney :headache:

The trick to this is using the right postcode. We used to get our AMEX cards to work by using 0**** for the postcode...as in stick a 0 in front to make the 5 digits.

So I just started another load of washing when I remembered - LA water seams harder than Sydney water. Needed more detergent to be more efficient, same with hair washing.

62F on an A380 is a bad seat as under the seat infront has an inflight entertainment box cutting your legroom. Suggest you sit the shortest member of your party there. Trust me. Believe the same applies for all other 'F' seats.

Tail cam is great.

Oh wow, welcome home Kylie. How exciting for you. I'm off to have a look at your trip report. Can't wait to see some pics.

Welcome home, Kylie! Will read your trip report in a minute, just wanted to ask, how old is your child? I wanted to do the Warner Bros tour but it says no kids under 8 and my youngest is only 6. Do you think we could sneak him in?

Oh okay, just read your report and see that your daughter is 7. Did you book the Warner Bros tour in advance and ask if she could attend, or did you do it there?

I booked in advance, maybe two months. I sent them an email to ask about DD. They asked for my phone number and gave me a call. They said that if she became disruptive we would be asked to leave, etc etc.

I would say though that DD did get a little antsy towards the end and was asking how long to go (but still pretty well behaved.) I saw a girl on a different tour-tram perhaps 8 or 9 who looked pretty bored.

If your DS is into movies and how they are made it would may work well, but in all honesty I think that DD7 was bored, especially towards the end. DD is highly into the arts (movie and stage.) Maybe because she only recognised the Annie movie outdoor scenes, the remaining was aimed more towards adults. In the museum at the end I don't think DD recognised any of the characters or costumes There is a Harry Potter dedicated section upstairs.

The Harry Potter costumes are the main drawcard for us. I also saw the Scooby Doo van in your pics, and my boys would love that. I don't think I'll pre-book it as we really don't have a lot of time in LA but I'll call them when we're there if we can fit it in and see if they'll let him take part. Thanks :).

Welcome back Kylie. I am looking forward to reading your trip report.

I am glad to hear that the Warner Bros tour was good. We are planning on doing it when we go back this year. Last year when we went to Universal my kidlets loved the studio tour - we did it twice actually. So I was wanting to take them to the WB tour this time. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Welcome back. I've only got 2 sleeps to go until I leave.

Were the queues bad at DL? They were out of control when I was there back at Halloween time and I'm looking forward to going on some of the rides I missed out on. (Raiders, Space Mountain, Roller coasters in Californialand)

Welcome back! LOVE your trip report! Oh I wish I had a little girl, I would love to have taken her to America Girl. I did pass it when we went to The Grove, but there was no way I could get my son in there :lmao: I did manage to get him into Pottery Barn Kids and a little toy store in the Farmers Market next door but not America Girl.

Your trip just looks fantastic and you must have had such a wonderful time.

Thank you. I will definately take lots of photos - I took around 5000 last trip!!! And yes, there will be food porn. ;)

Thanks for such a great trip report! I love hearing about everyone's experiences and seeing all the photos...keeps me going until I can be there too! :goodvibes
