I have ready many posts lately regarding the issue of boycotting Disney and I just wanted to share my opinion on this matter. As many of you have mentioned, the boycott concept is a Catch 22. I believe all of us agree that we do not support what Eisner has turned our much-beloved Disney films and parks into. For all of us to even be on these boards, we are all very loyal fans and do not want to see an end to the legacy of Walt Disney.
For us to boycott Disney would be to say we give up. That we believe only Eisner would hurt from us throwing in the towel when things went downhill. All companies go through bad times. If you truly love and believe in the Disney magic, you have to stay loyal. There is more to Disney than just Eisner. Just think of everyone else out there who is trying to keep the Disney magic alive. They are counting on fans like us to stay true to the concept of what Disney is all about.
I know that some of you would argue that boycotting Disney would show Eisner that we do not agree with what has been going on. However, boycotting is a passive way to get your point across. That's not actually making known what we think the problem is, and what we want to see changed. Eisner can take drops in attendance and revenue and twist it to mean whatever he likes.........he could say it means the economy is doing poorly, that people are scared to travel, or that there isn't a market out there for "Disney" magic anymore. I don't believe any of those reasons are why people would be boycotting.
I have read quote after quote from Eisner that he and his team are all about making the "guests" happy. I have read that their figures show customer satisfaction to be very high. I would have to say that for a lot of us that is not true. But, do they know that? The only way to get our point across is by actively speaking our opinions.
WE are the people that keep Disney alive. WE are the people whose opinions matter. WE are responsible for speaking on behalf of all loyal Disney guests on what needs to be changed. And this must be done actively, not in a passive way such as boycotting. Write letters, send emails, support the websites such as www.savedisney.com. If enough voices of the true fans are heard, they can't help but hear us.
