Is this “scamming” the DAS system?

I ended up in the hospital last week with some -ahem- stomach & bladder problems. The doctor gave me a tentative colitis diagnosis. I haven’t been officially diagnosed with anything, because I haven’t been able to get in to see the specialist yet.

But my current biggest symptoms are bathroom urgency and frequency and fatigue. I leave for Disney in 15 days. Because this is all so new I’m still trying to figure out how to manage it. I’ll be at Disney during the opening of GE and just thinking about how long the lines will be is giving me anxiety. It’ll also be hot, which means I’ll need to hydrate, which will make the frequency issue worse. I was planning on not doing any rides with more than a 20+ minute wait, but I doubt there will be any that short.

One of my friends just mentioned that I should get the DAS pass so I can use the bathroom and sit down instead of waiting in line for potentially over an hour. But I feel guilty even considering it, because like I said, I don’t have a “real” diagnosis yet. Would getting a pass be scamming the system or is this a valid reason to get one?

I don't know about the scamming part, but in your timing, you have to remember the preshows and such. So your 20 min line wait, could easily be 30-40 min by the time you are walking out of the ride. And what if there is a ride breakdown. Just wanted you to think on these things too. Too many time we remember the 4 1/2 min ride and that's all.

No, this is not scamming the system. This is the type of issue the DAS is designed to help with. I know what you are going through. I have pretty severe IBS and it causes bladder issues as well. I don't use a DAS, but we have one for our autistic sons. Honestly, though, if I was having a particularly bad flare up of IBS that overlapped with a Disney trip, without my kids, I would absolutely get a DAS. In our experience with the DAS, wait times in excess of 15 minutes are rare, but also in my personal experience with a condition that causes "bathroom issues," you will know when you can get in a line and when you can't, and the DAS is perfect for that. It's open ended return window is perfect because you won't have the pressure to return within a specific small window. I mean, I have been stuck in the bathroom for well over an hour numerous times, and something like a traditional fastpass is useless in that situation.

Also, I know of people with UC/Crohn's and IBS who have DAS for those conditions, so it is definitely something that "qualifies."

I know. I’m definitely skipping the longer rides like SSE, CoP, even TTA. I can go about an hour tops at the moment, so I was thinking if I’m able to wait 20-30 minutes in line instead of 50-60 that’s a huge help. The thought of a ride breakdown is a little terrifying but I feel like I can’t skip everything out of that fear. I really don’t want people thinking I’m trying to game the system or something if I do get one and use it though.

the DAS is not DX-based but need-based I would just go to GR and tell the CM there your concerns for the lines and why you think it will help you to wait outside the line than in the line. You might find you only need it some of the time or a lot you might find you need in for just now until you get things under control you might find you need it for now on. now it will be gaming the system if in X amount of time your systems go away and you do not have the same problems as you do know

Not scamming the system at all. This is the type of situation in which a DAS would be very useful. It is need-based not diagnosis-based, and you have that need. 🙂

This is good to hear. I too am struggling with a possible DX, for similar issues. I haven't used a park map for decades, but now I am going to grab a map in each park, first thing, and sharpie circle all the bathrooms! I missed a few of my FP's last month for this situation!

What you would have wanted and also theoretically fair and just:
Go to the rest room. Come back and get in line. A little later, need to go to the restroom again and go. Return to the spot in the line you departed from..

The DAS offers a perfect solution to this problem and produces almost the same result with far less friction.

Also first aid all have bathroom in them. One day after the fireworks at the MK I had to go to the bathroom like I had to go 30 minutes now the line for the bathroom by casey’s was very long so I went to first aid to use it there. I never stoped walking when I told the nurse that I had to use the bathroom they just open the door and asked if I know where it was I did and I did not even lock the door thank goodness no one came in. But it is there if you need it ( it is also the only handicap bathroom in the area for MK so I would just use it for emergency).

Getting out of line and back in is not always simple either. Some queues are better designed for it. The longer ones for the popular rides should have restrooms mid way. As a solo traveler myself, it is near impossible to get out of line and get back to where I was. Especially if I need to get out more then once.

I would also recommend taking other precautions in case of an accident. Bring an extra change of clothes including socks and consider some adult incontinence products, for peace of mind if nothing else.

If you don’t want to explain your needs out loud to the Guest Relations CM, you can write them down. However, they will not look at a doctor’s note, so just write it yourself. Just explain your needs, not your potential diagnosis.

yes you can request a DAS and based on your needs can be given one. they actually don't give a flying leap about diagnosis. but you also need to minimize any issues by being proactive.

that means hitting every loo you come across every time. wearing depends . using a solid touring plan and using FP in conjunction with the DAS. going TS for meals so you can rest up. using an ECV if the fatigue gets to be too much.

I have a respiratory issue that causes me to cough a lung up if it is too humid( or too cold ) and with that comes an always fun bladder leakage. so yeah, depends are my friend. and we use a camelback so I can have spares on hand. I also use the cooling towels around my neck. it actually helps a lot with the hydration. I don't need to drink as much( although we still go through plenty of water all day)

The above jumped out at me... the DAS allows you to wait outside the queue, but it does not necessarily provide for a place to sit. You may be standing or walking more while waiting.

Describe your needs (no diagnosis necessary) related to waiting in a queue when you request the DAS. I also suggest taking your own precautions in case you can't get to the restroom in time, and bring a change of clothes as well. Hopefully you won't need them but you'll have them.

Enjoy your vacation!

You can request a DAS if you need to wait somewhere other than in the ride queue. It doesn't reduce waits, it just allows you to wait somewhere else. So there isn't really a scam involved.

If you need to wait somewhere that's very near a bathroom, then you can ask for a DAS.

Thank you so much. When you go to guest services, do you just ask for the DAS pass? What do you have to say? This is all very new to me.

I’m already planning on stopping at every bathroom, especially right before/after rides. For depends, are they obvious? I was planning on wearing running shorts because it will be so hot so if I don’t know if I shouldn’t.

I just meant that I could go sit on the ground/a wall/off to the side near a restroom while waiting.

I did just change up my entire food plan to hopefully avoid all potential problem foods. The problem is that I could eat something 1000 times with no issues and then all of a sudden the 10001st time takes a turn for the worst. So precautions will definitely be taken lol

When you go to GR I would just say I have some concerns for the lines and they are. Then go on to say your concerns for the line. Or you can write them down on a pice of paper

I have no idea, but why don't you buy a small package and try them at home. See how they work with the clothes you were planning on packing.

My sister uses some brand of that product, and while she is usually wearing long pants but I've never noticed any extra bumps.
