I totally don't want to be a Debbie Downer but our last experience was devastating. My step-father who I was very close to passed away while we were in Hollywood Studios. I just happened to call to check on him and see how he was feeling and my mom said he passed 20 minutes ago. I didn't know how I was going to tell my boys who were 8 and 15 at the time. I found an employee and told her what had just happened and she brought us to guest relations where we were escorted to a room that looked like a living room with tissues and a sofa. We stayed there while I told the boys what happened. It was an awful experience but I was so grateful for the kindness of the staff.
This all happened three days before Christmas so trying to get a flight home was impossible. Then.....
My youngest son either had a very bad stomach virus or he had food poisoning. We stayed in the hotel for the next few days until our flight while my son recovered. He was so sick it was coming out of both ends and we were going through towels and sheets like crazy. I felt so bad for the hotel staff. Christmas dinner was from Shake Shack since that was all that was open in the area instead of the Christmas BBQ we had planned on.
We decided it was time for another vacation. I asked my youngest where he would like to go. He is 15 now and will be 16 when we go. Surprisingly he decided on Disney because he wanted happy memories instead of the traumatic memories from that nightmare vacation. My oldest son. (I just have the two boys) is in the Army and won't be out for another year and a half so we will revisit another trip when he gets home.
I am so excited to make this trip full of happy memories for our family. We will be returning this Christmas.
